SECE TOREPLACEAUGERSHEARBOLT ADJUST TS Theaugersaresecuredtotheaugershaftwithspecial bolts(SeeFig°34)thataredesignedtobreak(toprotect themachine)ifanobjectbecomeslodgedintheauger housing.Useofaharderboltwilldestroytheprotection providedbytheshearboll IMPORTANT;TOINSURESAFETYAND PERFORMANCELEVELS,ONLY ORIGINALEQUIPMENTSHEAR BOLTSSHOULDBEUSED,WHEN REPLACINGSHEARBOLTS,BESURE TOREPLACESHEARBOLT SPACERS. Toreplaceabrokenshearbolt,proceedasiollows: ®MovethethrottletoSTOPandturnoffallcontrols, ®Disconnectthesparkplugwire.Besureallmoving partshavestopped. •Removethebrokenshearbolt. •Lubricatetheaugershaftbysquirtingoilintotheshear boltholeintheaugershaftThenrotatetheaugerto distributetheoilontheshaft.. eAligntheholeintheaugerwiththeholeintheauger shaft.Installthenewshearbolt,shearboltspacer,and locknutprovidedinpartsbag @Reconnectthesparkplugwire_ TOADJUSTCARBURETOR Thecarburetor(SeeFig.35andFig37(page25)has beenpre-setatthefactoryandreadjustmentshouldnot benecessary.However,ifthecarburetordoesneedtobe adjusted,proceedasfollows: •Closethehighspeedadjustingscrewbyhand. eDonotover-tighten. @ThenopenitI-1/4to1-1/2turns @Closetheidleadjustingscrewbyhand.Donotover- tighten,. ®Thenopenit1-1/4to1-1/2turns. ®Starttheengineandletitwarmup. @SetthethrottlecontroltoRUNAdjustthehighspeed adjustingscrewInuntiltheenginespeedorsound alters_Adjustthescrewoutuntiltheenginespeed soundalters..Notethedifferencebetweenthetwo limitsandsetthescrewinthemiddleoftherange_ •Lettheenginerunundisturbedfor30secondsafter eachsetlingtoallowtheenginetoreact1otheprevi- ousadjustment. ®SetthethrottlecontrottoIDLE.Adjusttheidleadjust- ingscrewinuntiltheenginespeeddrops,thenadjust thescrewoutuntiltheenginespeeddrops.Notethe differencebetweenthetwolimitsandsetthescrewin themiddleoftherange. TOADJUSTORREPLACE THESPARKPLUG Ifyouhavedifficultystartingyoursnowthrower,youmay needtoadjustorreplacethesparkplugFollowthe instructionsbelow° Replacethesparkplugiftheelectrodesarepittedor burnedoriftheporcelainiscracked. TOADJUST: •Cleanthesparkplugbycarefullyscrapingtheelec- trodes(donotsandblastoruseawirebrush) •Besurethesparkplugiscleanandfreeofforeign material,Checktheelectrodesgap(SeeFig36)with awirefeelergaugeandresetthegapto,030inchif necessary TOREPLACE: •Ifyouneedanewsparkplug,useonlytheproper replacementsparkplug(Seepage4) •Setthegapto.030. .030GAP FIG.36 •Beforeinstallingthesparkplug,coatitsthreadslightly withoilorgreasetoensureeasyremoval •Tightentheplugfirmlyintotheengine. •Ifatorquewrenchisavailable,torquetheplugto18to 23ft-lbs, 24

NOTE,Ayearlycheckuportune-upbyaSEARSService Centerisagoodwaytoinsurethatyoursnowthrowerwill providemaximumperformanceforthenextseason, ENGINESTORAGE Gasolinemustberemovedortreatedtopreventgum depositsfromforminginthetank,filter,hose,and carburetorduringstorage.Alsoduringstorage,al- coholblendedgasolinethatusesethanolormetha- nol(sometimescalledgasohol)attractswater.Itacts onthegas@linetoformacidswhichdamagethe engine. eToremovegasoline,runtheengineuntilthetankis emptyandtheenginestops,Thendrainremaining gasolinefromcarburetorbypressingupwardon bowldrainlocatedonthebottomofcarburetor(See Fig..37)° ®tfyoudonotwanttoremovegasoline,afuelstabilizer (suchasCraftsmanFuelStabilizerNo33500)may beaddedtoanygasolineleftinthetanktominimize gumdepositsandacids,.Ifthetankisalmostempty, mixstabilizerwithfreshgasolineinaseparatecon- tainerandaddsometothetank,ALWAYSFOLLOW INSTRUCTIONSONSTABILIZERCONTAINER, THENRUNENGINEATLEAST10MINUTESAF- TERSTABILIZERISADDEDTOALLOWMIX- TURETOREACHCARBURETOR.STORESNOW THROWERINASAFEPLACE.SEEWARNING ABOVE.
