    •Pushdownonthestarterbuttonuntilthe 
    enginestarts.Donotcrankformorethan 
    10secondsatatime.Thiselectricstarter 
    isthermallyprotected.Ifoverheateditwill 
    stopautomaticallyandcanberestarted 
    onlywhenithascooledtoasafe 
    temperature(awaitofabout5to10

    •Pullasmuchropeoutofthestarteras 
    possible. 
    •Releasethestarterhandleandletitsnap 
    backagainstthestarter. 
    Ifthestarterstillfailstoturnengine,repeat 
    thetwopreviousstepsuntilthestarteren- 
    gages.Thencontinuewiththedirectionsfor 
    coldstart. Tohelppreventpossiblefreeze-upofrecoil 
    starterandenginecontrols,proceedasfol- 
    lowsaftereachsnowremovaljob. 
    •Withtheenginerunning,pullthestarter 
    ropehardwithacontinuousfullarm 
    strokethreeorfourtimes.Pullingof 
    starterrop_willproducea_oudclattering 
    sound.Thisisnotharmfultotheengine 
    orstarter. 
    •Withtheenginenotrunning,wipeall 
    snowandmoisturefromthecarburetor 
    coverinareaofcontrollevers.Also 
    movethrottlecontrol,chokecontrol,and 
    starterhandleseveraltimes. 
    SNOWTHROWINGTIPS 
    •Formaximumsnowthrowerefficiency 
    operateengineat(Full)throttle.Theen- 
    gineisdesignedtodelivermaximum 
    performanceatfullthrottleandshouldbe 
    runatthispowersettingatalltimes. 
    •Mostefficientsnowthrowingisaccom- 
    plishedwhenthesnowisremoved 
    immediatelyafteritfalls. 
    •Forcompletesnowremoval,slightly 
    overlapeachpathpreviouslytaken. 
    •Thesnowshouldbedischargeddown 
    windwheneverpossible. 
    •Afterthesnowthrowingjobhasbeen 
    completed,allowtheenginetoidlefora 
    fewminutes,whichwiltmeltthesnow 
    andaccumulatediceofftheengine. 
    •Cleanthesnowthrowerthoroughlyafter

    •Removeiceandsnowaccumulationand 
    alldebdsfromtheentiresnowthrower,

    ENGINESTORAGE 
    Gasolinemustberemovedortreatedto 
    preventgumdepositsfromformingin 
    thetank,filter,hose,andcarburetordur- 
    ingstorage.Alsoduringstorage,alcohol 
    blendedgasolinethatusesethanolor 
    methanol(Sometimescalledgasohol)at- 
    tractswater.Itactsonthegasolineto 
    formacidswhichdamagetheengine. 
    •Toremovegasoline,runtheengineuntil 
    thetankisemptyandtheenginestops. 
    Thendrainremaininggasolinefromcar- 
    buretorbypressingupwardonbowldrain 
    locatedonthebottomofcarburetor(see 
    figureonright). •Ifyoudonotwanttoremovegasoline, 
    usefuelstabilizersuppliedwithunitor 
    purchaseCraftsmanFuelStabilizerNo. 
    33500.Addfuelstabilizertoanygasoline 
    leftinthetanktominimizegumdeposits 
    andacids.Ifthetankisalmostempty,mix 
    stabilizerwithfreshgasolineinaseparate 
    containerandaddsometothetank. 
    Alwaysfollowinstructionsonstabilizercon- 
    tainer.Thenrunengineatleast10minutes 
    afterstabilizerisaddedtoallowmixtureto 
    reachcarburetor.Storesnowthrowerina 
    safeplace.SeeWarningabove, 
    Youcankeepyourengineingoodoperating 
    conditionduringstorageby: 
    •Changingoil(seepage10). 
    •Lubricatingthepiston/cylinderarea.This 
    canbedonebyfirstremovingthespark

    sorboilspray.Next,rotatetheengineby 
    pullingthestarterropefullyouttwoor 
    threetimes.Finally,reinstallsparkplug 
    andattachsparkplugwire.

    •Ifthemachinemustbestoredoutdoors,
