Scanning Film 11 Scanning Film This scanner can scan 35 mm film strips one frame at a time. Preparing to Scan Film Use the following procedures to place the Film Adapter Unit and the Film Guide on the document glass to scan film. 1Attach the cable for the Film Adapter Unit to the FAU connector on the scanner’s back panel. 2Open the document cover and place the Film Guide on the document glass of the scanner. Calibration Calibration is required the first time the scanner is used to scan film. This procedure adjusts the scanner output so that items are reproduced with the correct coloration. It is explained below using the example of ArcSoft PhotoStudio and ScanGear CS in Simple Mode. 1Remove the CAP from the Film Adapter Unit and gently set the Film Adapter Unit over the first frame in the Film Guide (frame closest to the front). • Clean the document glass before placing the Film Guide on it, otherwise dirt and dust can affect image quality or damage the film. • You cannot scan film with the scanner in the upright position. • If there is film in the Film Guide, remove it before setting the Film Adapter Unit on it. • Be careful not to lose the CAP or to allow dirt into it. Align the two film guide tabs over the slots at the documen glass edge and secure it with the clip at the back. Position the Film Adapter Unit so that its alignment tab is aligned with the Film Guide.
Scanning Film 12 2Gently close the document cover. 3Start ArcSoft PhotoStudio. Select [Start], [Programs] or [All Programs], [ArcSoft PhotoStudio] and [PhotoStudio 5]. Double-click the [Applications (Mac OS 9)] and [PhotoStudio] folders and the [PhotoStudio] icon. 4Start ScanGear CS. Click the Acquire icon or click the [File] menu and select [Acquire]. If an error message appears, click the [File] menu, choose [Select Source], select your scanner model name and click the [Select] button. Click the Acquire icon or click the [File] menu and select [Import...]. When the [Select Source] dialog displays, select [ScanGear CS 7.2] and click the [OK] button. ScanGear CS will start. 5In the [Select source] category, select [Color Negative Film] or [Color Positive Film]. The “No calibration data exists to perform film scanning.” message will display. 6Click the [OK] button. The calibration process will start and take approximately 1 minute. The calibration process is finished when the message disappears. • Do not press down on, or rest your hands on, the document cover. • Be careful not to force the document cover down. • If ScanGear CS is already running, click the close box ( Windows, Macintosh) and close it. • Do not open the document cover during the calibration process.
Scanning Film 13 7Open the document cover and remove the Film Adapter Unit. To continue scanning your film, follow the Scanning Film steps. Scanning Film The following steps explain how to scan films with ArcSoft PhotoStudio and ScanGear CS. 1Place the film in the Film Guide. Place the film face up in the Film Guide (images and words should read correctly from above) with the spaces between frames aligned with the white lines on the guide. 2Remove the CAP from the Film Adapter Unit and gently set the unit over the frame you wish to scan. 3Gently close the document cover. 4Start ArcSoft PhotoStudio. Select [Start], [Programs] or [All Programs], [ArcSoft PhotoStudio] and [PhotoStudio 5]. Double-click the [Applications (Mac OS 9)] and [PhotoStudio] folders and the [PhotoStudio] icon. • Clean the document glass before placing the Film Guide on it, otherwise dirt and dust can affect image quality or damage the film. • Use a blower brush to remove any dust from the film, which will affect the image quality, and take care to hold the film by its edges to avoid transferring dirt or fingerprints to it. • Do not move the Film Adapter Unit once it has been placed on the Film Guide. Sliding it may scratch the film. • The document cover does not touch the document glass completely. Be careful not to force the document cover down. • Do not press down on, or rest your hands on, the document cover. Put the CAP back on the Film Adapter Unit. White Line Position the Film Adapter Unit so that its align- ment tab is aligned with the Film Guide.
