31 VIDEO INPUT AV SYSTEM MENU (VIDEO OR S-VIDEO) AV SYSTEM MENU (COMPONENT VIDEO) SELECTING THE VIDEO SYSTEM Press the MENU button and the ON-SCREEN MENU will appear. Press the POINT LEFT/RIGHT buttons to move the red frame to AV SYSTEM Menu icon. Press the POINT DOWN button to move the red arrow to the system that you want to select and then press the SET button. 1 2 If projector cannot reproduce a proper video image, it is necessary to select a specific broadcast signal format among PAL, SECAM, NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL-M, and PAL-N.Move the red arrow to the system and press the SET button. PAL / SECAM / NTSC / NTSC4.43 / PAL-M / PAL-N The projector automatically detects the incoming Video signal, and then adjusts itself to optimize its performance. If the projector cannot reproduce a proper video image, it is necessary to select a specific component video signal format among 480i, 575i, 480p, 575p, 720p, 1035i and 1080i. Press the POINT LEFT button to lighten color, and the POINT RIGHT button to darker color. (From 0 to 63.) Press the POINT LEFT button or the POINT RIGHT button to obtain the proper color. (From 0 to 63.) Color Tint Press the POINT LEFT button to soften the image, and the POINT RIGHT button to sharpen the image. (From 0 to 15.) Sharpness Press the POINT LEFT button to lighten the red tone and the POINT RIGHT button to darker tone. (From 0 to 63.) White balance (Red) Press the POINT LEFT button to lighten the green tone and the POINT RIGHT button to darker tone. (From 0 to 63.) White balance (Green) Press the POINT LEFT button to lighten the blue tone and the POINT RIGHT button to darker tone. (From 0 to 63.) White balance (Blue) NOTE : Tint cannot be adjusted when the video system is PAL, SECAM, PAL-M or PAL-N. Press the SET button at this icon to store the value. Press the SET button at this icon to display previous items. When this function is ON, it automatically enhances the contrast of the bright and dark part of image. 34 VIDEO INPUT PICTURE SCREEN ADJUSTMENT This projector has a picture screen resize function, which enables you to display the desirable image size. Press the MENU button and the ON-SCREEN MENU will appear. Press the POINT LEFT/RIGHT button(s) to move the red frame to the SCREEN Menu icon. Press the POINT DOWN button and move the red frame to the function that you want to select and then press the SET button. 1 2 NOTE : The SCREEN Menu cannot be operated when “720p,” “1035i,” or “1080i” is selected on the AV SYSTEM Menu (P31). Move the red frame to the function and press the SET button. SCREEN MENU SCREEN Menu icon Provides image at a wide screen ratio of 16 : 9. Wide Provides image at a normal video aspect ratio of 4 : 3. Normal 3 Store icon Reset all adjustment to the previous figure. Reset Store Closes the IMAGE MENU. Quit Other icons operate as follows. “OK?” message Move the red arrow pointer to [Yes] and then press the SET button. To store a manually preset image level, move the red frame to the Store icon and press the SET button. The message “OK?” will appear. Select [Yes] to store the manual adjustment. To set this manual adjustment, select Custom by pressing the IMAGE button or through the IMAGE SELECT MENU (refer to P32).
35 SETTING Ceiling When this function is “On,” the picture is top / bottom and left / right reversed. This function is used to project the image from a ceiling mounted projector. Rear When this function is “On,” picture is left / right reversed. This function is used to project the image to a rear projection screen. Ceiling function Rear function Keystone When the image is distorted vertically, select Keystone. The ON- SCREEN MENU disappears and the Keystone dialog box is displayed. Correct the keystone distortion by pressing the POINT UP/DOWN button(s). Refer to KEYSTONE ADJUSTMENT on page 20. SETTING MENU Press the MENU button and the ON-SCREEN MENU will appear. Press the POINT LEFT/RIGHT button(s) to move the red frame to the SETTING icon.1 2 Language The Language used in the ON-SCREEN MENU is selectable from English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Display Set the red frame to the item and press the SET button.Press the POINT DOWN button to move the red frame to the item that you want to set and then press the SET button. The Setting dialog box appears. Blue back When this function is “On,” the projector produces a blue image while the input signal is not detected. Logo When this function is “On,” the projector displays the Canon logo when starting up. When pressing the SET button at Language, Language Menu appears. Move the red frame to the item and then press the POINT LEFT/RIGHT button(s). SETTING MENU SETTING Menu icon This function decides whether to display the On-Screen Displays. On ···shows all the On-Screen Displays. Off ····sets On-Screen Displays disappeared except; ON-SCREEN MENU “Power off?” message (P19) P-TIMER “No signal” message (P36) “Wait a moment!” message
36 SETTING This function turns the Projection Lamp off when this projector detects signal interruption and is not used for a certain period in order to reduce power consumption and maintain the Lamp-life. (This projector is shipped with this function ON.) Power Management function operates to turn the Projection Lamp off when the input signal is interrupted and any button is not pressed over 5 minutes. This function operates as follows; 1. When any input signal is interrupted, “No signal” and the count down display appears (for 5 minutes). 2. After counting down for 5 minutes, the Projection Lamp and the READY Indicator are turned off. (Cooling Fans keep running.) 3. The READY Indicator starts to flash after cooling down the Projection Lamp about for 90 seconds (Power Management mode). In this Power Management mode, the Projection Lamp is automatically turned on when the input signal is connected or the projector is operated with any button on the Top Control or on the Remote Control Unit again. Power management This function is used to reset the Lamp Replace Counter. When replacing the Projection Lamp, reset the Lamp Replace Counter by using this function. Refer to page 38 for operation. Lamp counter reset Remote control This projector has two different remote control codes; the factory-set normal code (Code 1) and the secondary code (Code 2). This switching function prevents remote control interference when operating several projectors or video equipment together. When operating projector in “Code 2,” both projector and Remote Control Unit must be switched to “Code 2.” To change the code of Projector; Set the Remote control in the SETTING MENU to “Code 2.” To change the code of the Remote Control Unit; Press both the MENU and the IMAGE buttons on the Remote Control Unit together for over 10 seconds. After changing the code, make sure the Remote Control Unit operates properly. To return to the normal code (Code 1), repeat the steps above. NOTE : When the battery of Remote Control Unit is replaced, the remote control code automatically returns to the normal code (Code 1). Time left until Lamp off.
37 APPENDIX LAMP REPLACEMENT LAMP REPLACE When the life of the Projection Lamp of this projector draws to an end, the LAMP REPLACE indicator lights yellow. If this indicator lights yellow, replace the projection lamp with a new one promptly. Follow these steps to replace the lamp assembly. LAMP ASSEMBLY HANDLE LAMP COVER ORDER REPLACEMENT LAMP The Replacement Lamp can be ordered through your dealer. When ordering a Projection Lamp, give the following information to the dealer. Model No. of your projector : LV-S2 Replacement Lamp Type No. : LV-LP14 (Service Parts No. 610 295 5712) For continued safety, replace with a lamp assembly of the same type. Do not drop the lamp assembly or touch the glass bulb! The glass can shatter and may cause injury.Allow the projector to cool, for at least 45 minutes before you open the Lamp Cover. The inside of a projector can become very hot. READY LAMP REPLACE LAMP RNINGEMP. TOP CONTROL CAUTION SCREW Turn off the projector and disconnect the AC plug. Allow the projector to cool at least for 45 minutes. Remove the 2 screws with a screwdriver and pull out Lamp Assembly by grasping Handle. 1 3 Replace the Lamp Assembly with a new one and tighten 2 screws back into position. Make sure that the Lamp Assembly is set properly. Replace Lamp Cover and tighten the screw.4 To remove the Lamp Cover, remove the screw with a screwdriver .2 Connect the AC Power Cord to the projector and turn on the projector. 6Reset the Lamp Replace Counter. Refer to “LAMP REPLACE COUNTER” on the next page . 5SCREW NOTE :Do not reset the Lamp Replace Counter when Projection Lamp is not replaced. This indicator lights yellow when the life of the projection lamp draws to an end. Replace the Projection Lamp with a new one promptly.
38 APPENDIX LAMP REPLACE COUNTER Be sure to reset the Lamp Replace Counter after the Lamp Assembly is replaced. When the Lamp Replace Counter is reset, the LAMP REPLACE Indicator stops lighting. NOTE : Do not reset the Lamp Replace Counter until after the Projection Lamp is replaced. Turn the projector on, press the MENU button and the ON- SCREEN MENU will appear. Press the POINT LEFT/RIGHT button(s) to move the red frame to the SETTING Menu icon (refer to page 35, 36). Press the POINT DOWN button to move the red frame to “Lamp counter reset” and then press the SET button. The message Lamp replace counter reset? is displayed. Move the red arrow to [Yes] and then press the SET button. 1 2 Another confirmation dialog box appears and select [Yes] to reset the Lamp Replace Counter.3 This projector uses a high-pressure lamp which must be handled carefully and properly. Improper handling may result in accidents, injury, or create a fire hazard. Lamp lifetime may differ from lamp to lamp and according to the environment of use. There is no guarantee of the same lifetime for each lamp. Some lamps may fail or terminate their lifetime in a shorter period of time than other similar lamps. If the projector indicates that the lamp should be replaced, i.e., if the LAMP REPLACE INDICATOR lights up, replace the lamp with a new one IMMEDIATELY after the projector has cooled down. ( Follow carefully the instructions in the LAMP REPLACEMENT section of this manual. ) Continuous use of the lamp with the LAMP REPLACE INDICATOR lighted may increase the risk of lamp explosion. A Lamp may explode as a result of vibration, shock or degradation as a result of hours of use as its lifetime draws to an end. Risk of explosion may differ according to the environment or conditions in which the projector and lamp are being used. IF A LAMP EXPLODES, THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN. If a lamp explodes, disconnect the projector’s AC plug from the AC outlet immediately. Contact an authorized service station for a checkup of the unit and replacement of the lamp. Additionally, check carefully to ensure that there are no broken shards or pieces of glass around the projector or coming out from the cooling air circulation holes. Any broken shards found should be cleaned up carefully. No one should check the inside of the projector except those who are authorized trained technicians and who are familiar with projector service. Inappropriate attempts to service the unit by anyone, especially those who are not appropriately trained to do so, may result in an accident or injury caused by pieces of broken glass. LAMP HANDLING PRECAUTIONS Move the red frame to Lamp counter reset and then press the SET button. The message “Lamp replace counter reset?” is displayed.
39 CLEANING PROJECTION LENS Apply a non-abrasive camera lens cleaner to a soft, dry cleaning cloth. Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents or other harsh chemicals might scratch the lens. When the projector is not in use, attach Lens Cover. 1 3 Lightly wipe a cleaning cloth over Projection Lens.2 Follow these steps to clean the Projection Lens: MAINTENANCE WARNING TEMP. INDICATOR The WARNING TEMP. Indicator flashes red when the internal temperature of the projector exceeds the normal temperature. This Indicator stops flashing when the temperature of the projector returns to normal. When the WARNING TEMP. Indicator continues to flash, check the items listed below. The Ventilation Slots of the projector may be blocked. In such an event, reposition the projector so that the Ventilation Slots are not obstructed. AIR FILTER CARE AND CLEANING The Air Filter may be clogged with dust particles. Clean the Air Filter by following section AIR FILTER CARE AND CLEANING below. 1 2 If the WARNING TEMP. Indicator remains on after performing the above checks, the Cooling Fans or the Internal Circuits may be malfunctioning. Contact service personnel from an authorized dealer or a service station.3 AIR FILTER(Large) Turn off the projector, and disconnect the AC power cord from the AC outlet. Turn the projector upside down and remove the two Air Filters (Large and Small) by pulling the latches upward. 1 2 The Removable Air Filter prevents dust from accumulating on the surface of the Projection Lens and the Projection Mirror. Should the Air Filter become clogged with dust particles, it will reduce Cooling Fans’ effectiveness and may result in internal heat build up and adversely affect the life of the projector. Clean Air Filter following the steps below: Clean the Air Filters with a brush or wash out dust and particles.3 Replace each Air Filter properly. Make sure that the Air Filters are fully inserted.4 CAUTION Do not operate the projector with the Air Filter removed. Dust may accumulate on the LCD Panel and the Projection Mirror, therefore degrading picture quality. Do not put small parts into Air Intake Vents. It may result in malfunction of the projector. RECOMMENDATION We recommend avoiding dusty/smoky environment when operating a projector. Usage in these environments may cause poor image quality. When using under dusty or smoky conditions, dust may accumulate on the lens, liquid crystal panels, or optical elements inside the projector. This condition may degrade the quality of a projected image. When the above symptoms are noticed, contact your authorized dealer or service station for proper cleaning. AIR FILTER(Small)
40 APPENDIX TROUBLESHOOTING Before calling your dealer or service center for assistance, check the following: 1. Make sure you have connected a projector to your computer or video equipment as described in the section CONNECTING THE PROJECTOR on pages 11 ~ 13. 2. Check cable connection. Verify that all computer, video and power cord are properly connected. 3. Verify that all power is switched on. 4. If a projector still does not produce an image, re-start your computer. 5. If an image still does not appear, unplug the projector from your computer and check your computer monitors display. The problem may be with your graphics controller rather than with the projector. (When you reconnect the projector, be sure to turn the computer and monitor off before you power up the projector. Turn the projector on, and then the computer.) 6. If the problem still exists, check the following chart. No power.Plug the projector into your AC outlet. Make sure the READY Indicator lights. Wait 90 seconds after a projector is turned OFF before turning the projector back on. NOTE : After pressing the Power ON-OFF button to OFF, make sure the projector works as follows: 1. LAMP indicator lights bright and READY indicator turns off. 2. After 90 seconds, the READY indicator lights green again and the projector may be turned on by pressing the Power ON-OFF button. Check WARNING TEMP. indicator. If the indicator flashes red, the projector cannot be turned on. (See TURNING ON/OFF PROJECTOR section on page 19.) Check Projection Lamp. (Refer to page 37.) Image is out of focus.Adjust focus of the projector. Make sure the projection screen is at least 3.6’ (1.1m) from the projector. Check Projection Lens to see if it needs cleaning. NOTE : Moving a projector from a cool temperature location to a warm temperature location may result in moisture condensation on the Projection Lens. In such an event, leave the projector OFF and wait until condensation disappears. Picture is Left/Right reversed.Check Ceiling / Rear feature. (See “SETTING” section on page 35.) Problem:Try these Solutions Picture is Top/Bottom reversed.Check Ceiling feature. (See “SETTING” section on page 35.) Some displays are not seen during the Operation.Check Display feature.(See “SETTING” section on page 35.) No image.Check the connection between your computer or video equipment and the projector. Check the NO SHOW function. (Refer to page 21.) When turning the projector on, it takes about 30 seconds to display an image. Check the system that you select is corresponding with your computer or video equipment. Make sure the temperature is not out of the Operating Temperature (5°C ~ 35°C). No sound.Check audio cable connection from the audio input source. Adjust the audio source. Press the VOLUME (+) button. Press the MUTE button.
