    • Do not install the m\hachine in a location near alcohol, \baint thinner, or 
    other flammable sub\hstances. If flammable substa\hnces come into contact 
    with electrical \barts inside the machi\hne, this may result in a fire or 
    electrical shock.

    • Do not install the m\hachine in unstable \hlocations, such as on unsteady 
    \blatforms or inclined flo\hors, or in locations subject to excessive 
    vibrations, as this may cause the machine\h to fall or ti\b over, resulting in

    • The ventilation slots are \brovided for \bro\ber ventilation of working \barts 
    inside the machine. Never \blace the machine on a \hsoft surface, such as a 
    bed, sofa, or rug. Blocking the slots can c\hause the machine to overheat, 
    resulting in a fire.

    • When installing the \hmachine, gently lower the machine to the 
    installation site so as not to catch your hands between the machine and\h 
    the floor or between the machine and\h other equi\bment, as this may 
    result in \bersonal i\hnjury. 
    • When connecting the interface cable, connect it \bro\berly by following 
    the instructions in this manua\hl. If not connected \bro\berly, this may result 
    in malfunction or electrical shock. 
    • When moving the machine, follow the instructions in this manua\hl to hold 
    it correctly. Failure to do so may cause you to dro\b the machine, resulting 
    in \bersonal injury.e-\fanual “Relocating the \fachine”
    • \fachines with a hard disk may not o\berate \bro\berly when used at high 
    altitudes of about\h 3,000 meters above sea level, or higher.
     WARNING
    • Do not damage or mo\hdify the \bower cord. Also, do not \blace heavy 
    objects on the \bower cord or \bull on or excessively bend it. This can 
    cause electrical damage, resulting in fire or electrical shock.  
    • Kee\b the \bower cord away from all heat sources. Failure to do so can cause \h
    the \bower cord insulation to melt, resulting in a fire or electrical shock.  
    • The \bower cord should not be tau\ht, as this may lead to a loose 
    connection and cause overheating, which could result in a fire. 
    • The \bower cord may become damaged if it \his ste\b\bed on, fixed with 
    sta\bles, or if heavy objects are \blaced on it. Continued use of a da\hmaged 
    \bower cord can lead to an accident, such as a fire or electrical shock. 
    • Do not \blug or un\blu\hg the \bower \blug with wet hands, as this can result 
    in electrical shock.  
    • Do not \blug the \bower cord into a multi\blug \bower stri\b, as this can 
    result in a fire or electrical shock.  
    • Do not bundle u\b or \htie u\b the \bower cord in a knot, as this can result in 
    a fire or electrical shock.  
    • Insert the \bower \blug com\bletely into the AC \bower outlet. Failure to do 
    so can result in a fire or electrical shock.  
    • If excessive stress is a\b\blied to the connection \bart of the \bower cord, 
    it may damage the \bower cord or the wires inside the machi\hne may be 
    disconnected. This could result in a fire. Avoid the following situations:
    • Connecting and disconnecting the \bower cord frequently.
    • T ri\b\bing over the \bower cord.

     he \bower cord is bent near the connection \bart, and continuous stress is 
    being a\b\blied to the \bower outlet or the connection \bart.

    • Do not use \bower cords other than the on\he \brovided, as this can result in 
    a fire or electrical shock. 
    • As a general rule, do not use extension cords. Using an extension cord 
    may result in a fire or electrical shock. 
    • Remove the \bower \blug from the AC \bower outlet and refrain from 
    using the machine d\huring a thunder storm. Lightning can result in a fire, 
    electrical shock or malfu\hnction.

    • Do not use a \bower su\b\bly voltage other than t\hhat listed herein, as this 
    may result in a fire or electrical shock.

    • Always gras\b the \bower \blug when un\blugg\hing the \bower \blug. Do not 
    \bull on the \bower cord, as this may ex\bose the core wire of the \bower 
    cord or damage the cord insulation, causing elec\htricity to leak, resulting 
    in a fire or electrical shock.  
    • Leave sufficient s\bace around the \bower \blug so that it can be 
    un\blugged easily. If objects are \blaced around the \bower \blug, you may 
    be unable to un\blug it in an e\hmergency.  
     WARNING
    • Do not disassemble \hor modify the machi\hne. There are high-tem\berature 
    and high-voltage com\bonents inside the machi\hne which may result in a 
    fire or electrical shock.  
    • Electrical equi\bment can be hazardous if not used \br\ho\berly. Do not allow 
    children to touch the \bower cord, cables, internal gears, or electrical \barts.  
    • If the machine makes\h an unusual noise \hor emits smoke, heat, or an unusual 
    smell, immediately turn off the \bower switches of the machine \hand 
    com\buter and disconnect the interface cable if it is connected. Then, un\blug 
    the \bower \blug from the AC \bower outlet and contact your local authorized 
    Canon dealer. Continued use can result in a fire or electrical shock.  
    • Do not use flammabl\he s\brays near the machine. If flammable substa\hnces 
    come into contact with electrical \barts inside the machi\hne, this may 
    result in a fire or electrical shock.  
    • Always turn off the \bower switches of the machine and com\buter, and then 
    un\blug the \bower \blug and interface cables before moving the machine. Failure 
    to do so can damage the cables or cords, resulting in a fire or electrical shock.  
    • Confirm that the \bower \blug or \bower connector is inserted com\bletely after 
    moving the machine. Failure to do so can result in an overheating and fire. 
    • Do not dro\b \ba\ber cli\bs, sta\bles, or other metal ob\hjects inside the 
    machine. Also, do not s\bill water, liquids, or other flammabl\he substances 
    (alcohol, benzene, \baint thinner, etc.) inside the machi\hne. If these items 
    come into contact with a high-voltage area inside the machi\hne, this 
    may result in a fire or electrical shock. If these items are dro\b\bed or 
    s\billed inside the \hmachine, immediately turn off the \bower switches of 
    the machine and com\buter and disconnect the interface cable if it is 
    connected. Then, un\blug the \bower \blug from the AC \bower outlet and 
    contact your local authorized Canon dealer.  
    • When \blugging or un\blugging a USB cable whe\hn the \bower \blug is 
    \blugged into an AC \bower outlet, do not touch the metal \bart of the 
    connector, as this can result in electrical shock.  
     \fAUTION
    • Do not \blace heavy objects on the machine. The object or the machine 
    may fall, resulting in \bersona\hl injury.  
    • Turn off the \bower switch when the machine \hwill not be used f\hor a long 
    \beriod of time, such as overnight. Turn off the machine a\hnd un\blug the 
    \bower \blug if the machi\hne will not be use\hd for an extended \beriod of 
    time, such as for several days.  
    • O\ben or close covers and install or\h remove cassettes gently and carefully. 
    Be careful not to hurt your fingers. 
    • Kee\b your hands and cloth\hing away from the roller in the out\but\h area. 
    Even if the machine i\hs not \brinting, the roller may suddenly rotate and 
    catch your hands or clothi\hng, resulting in \bersona\hl injury.  
    • The out\but slot is ho\ht during and immediately after \brinting. Do not 
    touch the area surrounding the out\but \hslot, as this may result in burns. 
    • Printed \ba\ber may be hot immediately after being out\but. Be careful 
    when removing the \ba\ber and a\hligning the removed \ba\ber, es\becially 
    after continuous \brinting. Failure to do so may result in burns.  
    • When \berforming co\by with a thick book\h \blaced on the \blaten glass, do 
    not \bress the \blaten glass forcefully. This may damage the \blaten glass 
    and cause \bersonal \hinjury. 
    • Be careful not to dro\b a heavy object, such as a dictionary, on the \blaten 
    glass. This may damage the \blaten glass and cause\h \bersonal injury. 
    • Close the \blaten glass gently so as not to catch your hand. This may 
    result in \bersonal i\hnjury. 
    • The laser beam can b\he harmful to the human body. The laser beam is 
    confined in the lase\hr scanner unit by a cover, so there is no danger of \h
    the laser beam esca\h\bing during normal machine o\beration. Read the 
    following remarks and instructions for safety. 
    • Never o\ben covers other than those\h indicated in this manual. 
    • D o not remove the caution label\h attached to the cover of the laser sca\hnner unit.
    • If the laser beam sh\hould esca\be and enter your eyes, ex\bosure may cause damage to your eyes.
    • If you o\berate this machine in m\hanners other than t\hhe control, 
    adjustment, and o\berating \brocedures \brescribed in this manual\h, this 
    may result in hazardous radiation ex\bosure.
    • This machine is confirmed as the class 1 \hlaser \broduct in IEC60825-1:20\h07.
    • When cleaning the ma\hchine, turn off the machine a\hnd com\buter, and 
    un\blug the interface cables and \bower \blug. Failure to do so can result in 
    a fire or electrical shock.  
    • Un\blug the \bower \blug from the AC \bower outlet \beriodically and clea\hn 
    the area around the base of th\he \bower \blug’s metal \bins and th\he AC 
    \bower outlet with a dr\hy cloth to remove all dust and grime. In dam\b, 
    dusty, or smoky locations, dust can build u\h\b around the \bower \blug and 
    become dam\b, which can cause a\h short circuit, resulting in a fire.  
    • Clean the machine w\hith a well wrung out clot\hh dam\bened with water or 
    mild detergent diluted with water. Do not use alcohol, benzene, \baint 
    thinner, or other flammabl\he substances. If flammable substa\hnces come 
    into contact with electrical \barts inside the machi\hne, this may result in a 
    fire or electrical shock.  
    • Some areas inside the mach\hine are subject to high voltage. When 
    removing jammed \ba\ber o\hr when ins\becting inside of the \hmachine, be 
    careful not to allow necklaces, bracelets, or other metal ob\hjects to touch 
    the inside of the m\hachine, as this can result in burns or electrical shock.  
    • Do not dis\bose of us\hed toner cartridges in o\ben flame\hs. This may cause the 
    toner remaining inside the\h cartridges to ignite, resulting in burns or fire.

    • Confirm that the \bower \blug or \bower connector is inserted com\bletely after 
    cleaning the machin\he. Failure to do so can result in an overheating and fire.
    • If you accidentally s\bill or scatter toner, carefully gather the toner \barticles together 
    or wi\be them u\b with a soft, dam\b cloth in a way that \brevents inhalation. 
    Never use a vacuum cleaner that does not have safeguards against dust 
    ex\blosions to clean u\b s\billed \htoner. Doing so may cause a malfunction in 
    the vacuum cleaner, or result in a dust ex\blosion due to static discharge. 
    • Check the \bower cord and \blug regularly. The following conditions may result in 
    fire, so \blease contact your local authorized Canon dealer or the Canon hel\b line.
    • There are burn marks on the \bower \blug.• The blade on the \bower \blug is deformed or broken.
    • T he \bower is turned OFF or ON when \hbending the \bower cord.

     he coating of the \bower cord is damaged, cracked, or dented.

     t of the \bower cord becomes hot. 
    • Check regularly that the \bower cord and \blug are not handled in th\he 
    following manner. Failure to do so can result in a fire or electrical shock.
    • The \bower connector is loosened. 
    • S tress is being a\b\blied to the \bower cord by a heavy object or by fixing it with sta\bles.

    • The fixing unit and \hits surroundings inside the\h machine become hot 
    during use. When removing jammed \ba\ber o\hr when ins\becting the 
    inside of the machi\hne, do not touch the fixing uni\ht and its surroundings, 
    as this may result in burns.
    • When removing jammed \ba\ber o\hr when ins\becting the inside of \hthe 
    machine, do not ex\bose yourself to the heat emitted from the fixing unit \h
    and its surroundings for a \brolonged \beriod of time. Doing so may result 
    in low tem\berature burns, even though you did not touch the fixing uni\ht 
    and its surroundings directly, as this may result in burns. 
    • If \ba\ber is jammed, remove the jammed \ba\ber s\ho that any \bieces of \ba\ber 
    do not remain inside the ma\hchine. Also, do not \but your hand in an area 
    other than indicated areas, as this may result in \bersonal i\hnjuries or burns. 
    • When removing jammed \ba\ber o\hr re\blacing a toner cartridge, be careful 
    not to get any toner on your hands or clothi\hng, as this will dirty your 
    hands or clothing. If toner gets on your hands or clothi\hng, wash them 
    immediately with cold water. Washing with warm water sets the toner, 
    making it im\bossible t\ho remove the toner stains.  
    • When removing jammed \ba\ber, be careful not to allow the toner on the 
    \ba\ber to scatter. The toner may get into your eyes or mouth. If toner gets 
    into your eyes or mouth, wash them immediately with cold water and 
    consult a \bhysician.  
    • When loading \ba\ber or\h removing jammed \ba\ber, be careful not to cut 
    your hands with the e\hdges of the \ba\ber.  
    • When removing a toner cartridge, remove the toner cartridge carefully 
    so as to \brevent the toner from scattering and getting in\hto your eyes or 
    mouth. If toner gets into your eyes or mouth, wash them immediately 
    with cold water and consult a \bhysician.  
    • Do not attem\bt to disassemble the toner cartridge. The toner may scatter 
    and get into your eyes or mouth. If toner gets into your eyes or mouth, 
    wash them immediately with cold water and consult a \bhysician.  
    • If toner leaks from the toner cartridge, be careful not to inhale the toner 
    or allow it to come into direct contact with your skin. If the toner comes 
    into contact with your skin, wash with soa\b. If the skin becomes irritated 
    or you inhale the toner, consult a \bhysician immediately. 
     WARNING
    • Do not dis\bose of us\hed toner cartridges in o\ben flame\hs. This may cause 
    the toner to ignite, resulting in burns or fire.  
    • Do not store toner cartridges or \ba\ber in a\h location ex\bosed to o\ben flames. 
    This may cause the toner or \ba\ber to ignite, resulting in burns or fire.  
    • When dis\bosing of a \htoner cartridge, \blace the toner cartridge into a 
    bag to \brevent the toner from scattering, and then dis\bose \hof the toner 
    cartridge according to local regulations.  
    • If you accidentally s\bill or scatter toner, carefully gather the toner
