Shooting with Camera-Determined 
Settings
For fully automatic selection of the optimal settings for specific scenes, 
simply let the camera determine the subject and shooting conditions.
Shooting (Smart Auto)
 Still Images  Movies
1 Turn the camera on.
 ●Press the power button.
 ●The startup screen is displayed.

 ●Set the mode switch to [].

You can make a short movie of the day just by shooting still images. The 
camera records 2 – 4-second clips of scenes before each shot, which a\

Digest Movie Playback
Display a still image shot in [] mode to play a digest movie, or specify 
the date of the digest movie to play ( = 66).

A blinking [] icon warns that images are more likely to be 
blurred by camera shake. In this case, mount the camera on a 
tripod or take other measures to keep it still.

Continuous Shooting Scenes
If you shoot a still image when the following scene icons are displayed,\

On-Screen Frames
 Still Images  Movies
In [] mode, a variety of frames are displayed once the camera 
detects subjects you are aiming the camera at.
 ● A white frame is displayed around the subject (or person’s face) 
determined by the camera to be the main subject, and gray frames are 
displayed around other detected faces. Frames follow moving subjects 
within a certain range to keep them in focus. 

 
However, if the camera detects subject movement, only the white 
frame will remain on the screen....

 ●Turning the zoom ring will display the zoom bar (which indicates 
the zoom position). The color of the zoom bar will change 
depending on the zoom range.
 -White range: optical zoom range where the image will not 
appear grainy.
 -Yellow range: digital zoom range where the image is not 
noticeably grainy (ZoomPlus).
 -Blue range: digital zoom range where the image will appear 
grainy.
