Pre-Recording 81 Pre-Recording The camcorder will start recording 3 seconds before you press Y, ensuring you do not miss important shooting opportunities. This is especially useful when it is difficult to predict when to start recording. By default, the pre-recording function is assigned to assignable button 2. 1 Press . • z will appear on the screen. • Press again to turn off pre-recording. 2 Press Y . • The scene recorded in the memory will start 3 seconds before Y was pressed. NOTES • The camcorder will not record the full 3 seconds prior to pressing Y if the button was pressed within 3 seconds of having turned on pre-recording or having finished the previous recording. • Any of the following actions will deactivate the pre-recording function. - Leaving the camcorder without any operation for 1 hour. - Changing the position of the mode switch. - Pressing T. - Activating video snapshot. - Opening the decoration screen. - Setting the camcorder to standby mode. - Touching any of the following control buttons in the FUNC. panel: [MENU], [Rec. Programs], [Ä White Balance], [ xAGC Limit], [ — Audio Scene], [Image Stabilizer], [ RFaders], [ Ò Decoration] or [ wReview Recording]. Operating modes: COPY
Onscreen Displays and Data Code 82 Onscreen Displays and Data Code You can turn most onscreen displays on or off. Repeatedly press D to turn the onscreen displays on/off in the following sequence: , mode: • All displays on • Most displays off 1 , mode2: • Only data code on • All displays on 1Pressing D will turn off most of the icons and displays that appear automatically but will not remove control buttons ([FUNC.], [PHOTO], etc.) and onscreen displays that were turned on manually (for example, onscreen markers or the audio level meter). 2In these modes, pressing D has the same effect as touching the screen. During single photo view and while playing back a scene, the playback controls are displayed only momentarily. Operating modes: About the Data CodeWith every scene or photo recorded, the camcorder keeps a data code (date/time of recording, information about the camera setup, etc.). You can select the information to be displayed with the s / > [Data Code] setting. COPY
Faders 83 Faders The camcorder offers two professional looking transition effects to fade-in or fade-out scenes. You have the option to activate the fader only one time or every time you start or stop recording. 1 Open the fader selection screen. [FUNC.] > [R Faders] 2 Touch the desired fader and then touch [ X]. • You can preview the transition effect on the screen. • The icon of the selected fader appears in green. To f a d e i n / o u t Press Y in record pause mode ( Û) to start recording with a fade in. Press Y while recording ( Ü) to fade out and pause the recording. NOTES • When you apply a fader, not only the picture but also the sound will fade in or out. • Faders cannot be used in the following cases: - While using the [Old Movies] cinema-look filter in mode. - When recording scenes with decorations. - When recording video snapshot scenes. - While pre-recording is activated. • You can select whether to fade to/from a black screen or a white screen with the p > [Fader Setting] setting. Custom Button and Dial 84 Customizatio n Custom Button and Dial You can assign to C and the CUSTOM dial one of several frequently used functions. You can then adjust the selected function using C and the CUSTOM dial, without having to access the menu. 1 Open the [Custom Key/Dial] screen. [FUNC.] > [MENU] > q > [Custom Key/Dial] 2 Touch the desired option and then touch [ X]. Options ( Default value) NOTES • Instead of the procedure above, you can press and hold C to display a quick menu of the options. Use the CUSTOM dial to select an option and then press C. Operating modes: [äMic. Level]When you set [ — Audio Scene] in the FUNC. panel to [ „ Custom Setting], you can adjust the microphone's audio recording level. Press C to display the audio level indicator and then use the CUSTOM dial to adjust the audio recording level. [”Tv/Av]When you set the recording program to [ ‚ Shutter-Pri. AE] or [ “Aperture-Pri. AE], you can adjust the shutter speed or aperture value with the CUSTOM dial. [lManual Exposure]When you set the recording program to [ n Manual Exposure], repeatedly press C to toggle between the aperture value, shutter speed and gain. Next, use the CUSTOM dial to adjust the setting. [ x AGC Limit]Adjusts the AGC limit. Press C to display the current AGC limit value and then use the CUSTOM dial to adjust it. [ y Exposure]When using a recording program other than [ Š Fireworks] or [ n Manual Exposure], you can compensate the automatic exposure set by the camcorder. Press C to display the exposure compensation value and then use the CUSTOM dial to adjust it. [ j Off]Use this setting if you do not intend to use C or the CUSTOM dial. 4 Customization COPY
Assignable Buttons 85 Assignable Buttons The camcorder conveniently features 2 buttons to which you can assign various functions. By assigning often used functions, you can quickly access them with a single press of a button. Changing the Assigned Function 1 Open the selection screen for the desired assignable button. [FUNC.] > [MENU] > q > [Assign Button 1] or [Assign Button 2] 2 Select the desired option and then touch [ X]. Options ( Default value for assignable button 1, default value for assignable button 2) Using an Assignable Button After you assign a function to one of the buttons, press the button to activate the function. NOTES • Even if an assignable button was set to one of the following functions in or mode, the button will be disabled if you set the camcorder to mode: [ È Powered IS], [° BLC Always On], [~ Face Only AF], [ Ä WB Priority] or [ AF/MF]. Saving and Loading Menu Settings 86 Saving and Loading Menu Settings After you adjust the cinema-look filters and other settings in the FUNC. panel and setup menus, you can save those settings on a memory card. Saving Menu Settings to a Memory Card Menu settings must be saved to memory card 3. If the memory card already has menu settings on it, they will be overwritten. 1 Insert a memory card into memory card slot 3. 2 Open the [Backup Menu Settings 7] screen. [FUNC.] > [MENU] > q > [Backup Menu Settings 7] 3 Touch [Save] and then touch [Yes]. • The current settings are saved to the memory card. 4 Touch [OK] and then touch [ X]. Loading Menu Settings from a Memory Card 1 Insert a memory card with menu settings into memory card slot 3. 2 Open the [Backup Menu Settings 7] screen. [FUNC.] > [MENU] > q > [Backup Menu Settings 7] 3 Touch [Load] and then touch [Yes]. • After the camcorder’s current settings are replaced with the settings saved on the memory card, the screen will turn black momentarily and the camcorder will restart. NOTES • This camcorder can load settings only from other VIXIA HF G20 camcorders. Operating modes: COPY
Playing Back Video 87 Playback Playing Back Video 1 Press T. • You can also press and hold on the wireless controller for more than 2 seconds to switch between shooting and playback mode. 2 Open the date index screen, if it is not displayed. [G ] > [y Date] 3 Look for the scene you want to play back. • Move the zoom lever toward T to show 15 scenes per page; move it toward S to show 6 scenes per page. Operating modes: !Memory being read. Recording date. # Division line between recording dates. $ Drag your finger left for the next index page*. % Drag your finger right for the previous index page*. & Open the [G Index Selection] screen ( A91). 3D Flip View ( A90). ( Scene’s timeline ( A96). * While browsing through index pages, a scroll bar will appear at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds. When you have a large number of scenes it may be more convenient to drag your finger along the scroll bar. 5 Playback COPY
Playing Back Video 88 4 Touch the desired scene to play it back. • Playback will start from the scene selected and continue until the end of the last scene in the index screen. • Touch the screen to display the playback controls. During playback, the playback controls will disappear automatically after a few seconds without operation. In playback pause, touch the screen again to hide the playback controls. During playback: Adjusting the volume 1 During playback, touch the screen to display the playback controls. 2Touch [ Ý], drag your finger along the [Speaker Volume] bar to adjust the volume and touch [ K]. • When q > [AV/Headphones] is set to [ Ó Headphones], adjust the [Headphone Volume] bar instead. ! Jump to the beginning of the scene. Double-tap to jump to the previous scene. Jump to the beginning of next scene. # Pause the playback. $ Fast playback* backward/forward. % Display the volume ( A88) and background music mix balance ( A110) controls. & Stop the playback. Decoration ( A103). ( Data code ([ Date and Time] setting shown) ( A82). * Touch several times to increase the playback speed to approximately 5x → 15x → 60x the normal speed. During fast playback, touch anywhere on the screen to return to normal playback. COPY
Playing Back Video 89 During playback pause: IMPORTANT • Observe the following precautions while the ACCESS indicator is on or flashing. Failing to do so may result in permanent data loss. - Do not open the double memory card slot cover. - Do not disconnect the power source or turn off the camcorder. - Do not change the camcorder’s operating mode. • You may not be able to play back with this camcorder movies recorded using another device. NOTES • Fast/slow playback modes are not available for scenes converted to standard definition. Scenes in the [ z SD Movies] index screen can only be played back at normal speed. • You can turn off the recording date and time display or change the information displayed with the s > [Data Code] setting. • Depending on the recording conditions, you may notice brief stops in video or sound playback between scenes. • During fast/slow playback, you may notice some anomalies (blocky video artifacts, banding, etc.) in the playback picture. • The speed indicated on the screen is approximate. • Slow reverse playback will look the same as continuous frame reverse. ! Resume playback. Slow playback* backward/forward. # Capture the displayed frame as a photo ( A98). $ Decoration ( A103). * Touch several times to increase the playback speed 1/8 → 1/4 the normal speed. During slow playback, touch anywhere on the screen to return to playback pause. COPY
Playing Back Video 90 3D Flip View Touch [ ] in the date index screen to switch to 3D Flip View. This convenient way of displaying scenes grouped by recording date in a 3D layout can be useful to flip through a large number of recordings.!Recording date. Drag your finger left to go to the next date with recordings. # Drag your finger up and down to browse through the scenes recorded in the displayed date. $ Drag your finger right to go to the previous date with recordings. % Return to the date index screen. & Current scene / Total number of scenes recorded on the selected date. Touch the scene in the front to play it back. COPY
