    Recording
    Press the “AUDIO LEVEL” button to display the audio level indicator on the LCD screen/viewfinder.
    Press the button again to cancel.
    •Only available when the recording program is set to AUTO, Tv or Av.
    Press the “AE SHIFT” button to display the AE SHIFT menu. Pull the SELECT dial up or down and
    select between –2.0 and +2.0. Press the SELECT dial in to close the menu.
    Press the “Image Stabilizer” button to turn the image stabilizer on/off.
    Use the audio attenuator if, during recording or audio dubbing you need to lower the volume level
    or correct distortion of the input audio. 
    Press the “AUDIO ATT” button. Select ON or OFF by pulling the SELECT dial up or down and press
    the SELECT dial in.

    Using Digital Effects
    Show your creativity by using the special effects and digital faders. These digital effects and faders
    can add visual appeal and greater imaging variety. 
    Faders:  Start or end scenes on a tape with a fade to or from black ( 62). 
    Fade Trigger, Wipe*, Overlap*
    Effects:  Add flavor to your recordings ( 65).
    Black and White, Sepia, Art, Mirror, Mosaic, Strobe*, Trail*
    Color Bars: You can display and record industry standard SMPTE color bars ( 67).
    *Cannot be selected when the movie mode is set to FRAME or when a slow shutter is set (1/8,
    1/15, 1/30).

    Notes:
    •When you do not wish to use digital effects, press the D.EFFECTS/BARS SELECT button and select
    D.EFFECTS|. Press the D.EFFECTS/BARS ON/OFF button to close the menu.
    • The camcorder retains the selected digital effect setting even if you turn the camcorder off.
    •Digital effects can also be operated from the wireless controller. 
    Faders
    The image gradually fades in. It gradually fades out
    when you stop recording
    The camcorder retains the last recorded scene as a still
    image before entering the record pause mode. When
    you start recording, the movie appears from the right of
    the screen until it fills the whole screen.

    The camcorder retains the last recorded scene as a still
    image before entering the record pause mode. When
    you start recording, the still image gradually changes to
    the scene you are recording.
    Sound and image fade together.
    When operating faders in TAPE CAMERA mode, make sure the program selector is set to Q.
    1. Press the D.EFFECTS/BARS SELECT button.
    •The digital effects menu appears.
    2. Select FADER and press the SELECT dial in.
    •FADE-T, WIPE and OVERLAP settings appear.
    3. Select the FADE-T and press the D.EFFECTS/BARS SELECT button.
    •The menu closes and FADE-T flashes in the display.
    4. Press the D.EFFECTS/BARS ON/OFF button.
    •The name of your selection stops flashing.
    •Each time you press the D.EFFECTS/BARS ON/OFF button, the fader is activated (display lights
    continuously) or deactivated (display flashes).
    5. Press the start/stop button.

    							When operating faders in TAPE CAMERA mode, make sure the program selector is set to Q.
    1. Press the D.EFFECTS/BARS SELECT button.
    •The digital effects menu appears.
    2. Select FADER and press the SELECT dial in.
    •FADE-T, WIPE and OVERLAP settings appear.
    3. Select WIPE or OVERLAP and press the D.EFFECTS/BARS SELECT button.
    •The menu closes and the name of the selected fader flashes in the display.
    4. Press the D.EFFECTS/BARS ON/OFF button during recording.
    •The name of your selection stops flashing.
    •Each time you press the D.EFFECTS ON/OFF button, the chosen fader becomes activated
    (display lights continuously) or deactivated (display flashes).
    5. Press the start/stop button.
    •The last scene is memorized as a still image and the camcorder goes into record pause mode.
    6. Press the start /stop button.
    •Recording starts, and the still image gradually changes to the scene you are recording.

    Effects
    The image becomes black and white.
    The image becomes monochrome with a brownish tint.
    The image becomes like a paint (solarization).
    Creates a symmetrical image as if there would be a
    mirror in the middle of the screen.
    The image is blurred through enlarging the size of some
    pixels.
    The image is shown in a series of
    still images, giving an effect
    similar to slow-motion.
    Moving the camcorder or moving subjects leave an
    afterimage like a trail.

    •The name of your selection stops flashing and the effect is activated.
    •Each time you press the D.EFFECTS/BARS ON/OFF button, the effect becomes activated
    (display lights continuously) or deactivated (display flashes).

    Using the Color Bars
    You can display and record industry standard SMPTE color bars.
    1. Press the D. EFFECTS/BARS SELECT button.
    •The digital effects menu appears.
    2. Select COLOR BARS and press the SELECT dial in.
    •The menu closes and COLOR BARS flashes in the display.
    3. Press the D. EFFECTS/BARS ON/OFF button.
    •The color bars appear in the display.
    •Each time you press the D.EFFECTS/BARS ON/OFF button, the color bars are activated or
    deactivated.

    For SLR-style flash photography, attach a Canon Speedlite 220EX, 420EX or 550EX to the
    camcorder’s accessory shoe.
    Refer also to the Speedlite instruction manual.
    Turn the camcorder’s power off before
    attaching/detaching the Speedlite.
    Slide the Speedlite onto the accessory shoe and tighten
    the shoe lock.

    Operating the Speedlite
    1. Turn the power of the Speedlite on.
    •Wait for the Speedlite to charge.
    •While the Speedlite is charging, a white Sflashes in the display.
    •When the Speedlite is fully charged a green Slights up constantly in the display.
    •Replace the battery of the Speedlite if the white Scontinues to flash.
    2. Press the PHOTO button to record the still image.
    •Make sure that the Speedlite is charged before recording the still image. Although it is
    possible to record while the Speedlite is still charging, the flash will not operate. The Speedlite
    cannot charge while you are holding the PHOTO button halfway down.
    •Sdisappears from the display while the camcorder records the still picture.
    •If the Smark does not appear in the display when you turn the Speedlite on, make sure that
    the Speedlite unit is slid fully onto the accessory shoe.
    Notes:
    •Turn the Speedlite unit off when you do not require a flash.
    •You cannot use the Speedlite in following cases:
    - In the MANUAL recording program.
    - When exposure is locked (Sturns off if you press the EXPOSURE dial in. It reappears when you
    turn the lock off by pressing the EXPOSURE dial in again.)
    •In the shutter-priority (Tv) mode, you can choose any shutter speed between 1/60 and 1/1000
    and clear scan (card: between 1/60 and 1/500).
    •Off-Camera Shoe and Connecting Cord for EOS models cannot be used with the GL2.
    •The bounce flash on the 420EX and 550EX Speedlites cannot be used with the GL2.
    •The 420EX/550EX’s multiple Speedlite control and the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 cannot be used
    with the GL2.
    •In dark recording situations, during autofocus, a assist light may be sent out by the Speedlite to
    illuminate the subject while you hold the camcorder’s PHOTO button halfway down.

    Recording
    With the interval timer, you can record images over a selected time with a selected interval. This
    function is useful when shooting flowers, animals, and other natural events. 
    You can select an interval of 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes or 10 minutes, and a recording time
    of 0.5 seconds, 1 second, 1.5 seconds, or 2 seconds.
    Example: 2 seconds recording time at a 5 minutes interval
    (= standby time of 5 minutes including the recording time of 2 seconds)
    Default setting:
    Recording time: 0.5 seconds
    Interval time: 30 seconds
    1. Slide the POWER switch to CAMERA and the TAPE/CARD switch to TAPE.
    •Load a cassette.
    2. Open the CAM. SET UP submenu and select aINTERVAL.
    •The interval timer menu appears.
    3. Select INTERVAL T. and set it to ON.
    •You return to the interval timer menu.
    4. Select INTERVAL and set the interval.
    •You return to the interval timer menu.
    5. Select REC TIME and set the recording time.
    6. Close the menu.
    7. Press the start/stop button to start recording.
    •The interval recording starts and INT T. appears in the display.
    •When the interval time is set to 30 seconds or 1 minute, the camcorder enters into record
    pause mode between recordings. When it is set to 5 or 10 minutes, the camcorder stops
    between recordings.

    Press the Start/Stop button.
    •The camcorder returns to record pause mode and INT T. flashes in the display.
    •Press the Start/Stop button again to restart recording.
    Set the camcorder to record pause mode and set INTERVAL T to OFF in the
    interval menu.
    Note:
    •The remaining tape display may not appear. Ending the Interval Recording
    Pausing the Interval Recording
