Tagging Images as Favorites 141 Complete the setting. zIf you press the n button, a confirmation screen will appear. zPress the qr buttons to choose [OK], then press the m button. If you switch to Shooting mode or turn off the power before completing the setting in Step 3, images will not be tagged as favorites. If you use Windows 7 or Windows Vista and transfer tagged images to the computer, they will be given a star rating of 3 ( ) (except for movies).

You can display the images in a category in filtered playback (p. 120) and process all images at once by using the functions below. •“Viewing Slideshows” (p. 122), “Protecting Images” (p. 134), “Erasing Images” (p. 138), “Choosing Images for Printing (DPOF)” (p. 159) Choose ;. zAfter pressing the m button, press the op buttons to choose ;, then press the m button again. If you choose [Deselect] in Step 4, you can deselect all of the images in the [Select Range] category.
145 You can change the orientation of an image and save it. Choose \. zAfter pressing the m button, press the op buttons to choose \, then press the m button again. Rotate the image. zPress the qr buttons to rotate the image 90° in the chosen direction. zPress the m button to complete the setting. Using the Menu Choose [Rotate]. zPress the n button to choose [Rotate] from the 1 tab, then press the m button. Rotate the image. zPress the qr buttons to choose an image.XThe image will rotate 90° with each press of the m button. zPress the n button to restore the menu screen. Rotating Images •Movies shot at or cannot be rotated. •Images cannot be rotated (p. 176) if [Auto Rotate] is set to [Off].
146 You can resize images to a lower pixel setting and save the resized image as a separate file. Choose [Resize]. zPress the n button to choose [Resize] from the 1 tab, then press the m button. Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons to choose an image, then press the m button. Choose an image size. zPress the qr buttons to choose an option, then press the m button. X[Save new image?] will appear on the screen. Save the new image. zPress the qr buttons to choose [OK], then press the m button. XThe image will be saved as a new file. Display the new image. zWhen you press the n button, [Display new image?] will appear on the screen. zPress the qr buttons to choose [Yes], then press the m button. XThe saved image will be displayed. Resizing Images •You cannot resize an image to a larger size. •Images saved as in Step 3 cannot be edited. •Movies cannot be edited.
147 You can cut out a portion of a recorded image and save it as a new image file. Choose [Trimming]. zPress the n button to choose [Trimming] from the 1 tab, then press the m button. Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons to choose an image, then press the m button. Adjust the trimming area. XA frame will appear around the portion of the image to be trimmed. XThe original image will display in the upper left and the trimmed image will display in the lower right. zIf you move the zoom lever, you can change the frame size. zIf you press the opqr buttons, you can move the frame. zIf you press the m button, you can change the frame orientation. zPress the n button. Save as a new image and display. zFollow Steps 4 and 5 on p. 146. Trimming Trimming Area Trimming Area Display Recorded pixels after trimming •Images recorded at a pixel setting of (p. 62), or images resized to (p. 146) cannot be edited. •Images that can be trimmed will have the same width and height ratio after trimming. •The number of recorded pixels in a trimmed image will be smaller than before trimming. •Movies cannot be edited.
148 You can change the color of an image and save it as a separate image. Refer to p. 92 for details on each menu item. Choose [My Colors]. zPress the n button to choose [My Colors] from the 1 tab, then press the m button. Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons to choose an image, then press the m button. Adding Effects with the My Colors Function If you repeatedly change the color of the same image, the quality will gradually deteriorate and you may not achieve the expected color. •The color of images changed with this function may vary from those recorded with the My Colors function (p. 92). •My Colors settings cannot be applied to movies.
149 The camera can detect areas in an image, such as faces or backgrounds, that are too dark and automatically adjust them to the optimum brightness. Also, when the overall image is lacking in contrast, the camera will automatically correct the image for a sharper impression. You can choose from 4 levels of correction, and save the image as a new file. Choose [i-Contrast]. zPress the n button to choose [i-Contrast] from the 1 tab, then press the m button. Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons to choose an image, then press the m button. Choose an option. zPress the qr buttons to choose an option, then press the m button. Save as a new image and display. zFollow Steps 4 and 5 on p. 146. Correcting the Brightness (i-Contrast) •Under some conditions, the image may appear coarse or not be corrected properly. •Repeatedly adjusting the same image may cause it to become coarse. What if the image wasn’t corrected by the [Auto] option as well as you would like? Choose [Low], [Medium] or [High] and adjust the image. Movies cannot be corrected.
150 You can automatically correct red eyes in images and save them as new files. Choose [Red-Eye Correction]. zPress the n button to choose [Red- Eye Correction] from the 1 tab, then press the m button. Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons to choose an image. Correct the image. zPress the m button.XRed-eye detected by the camera will be corrected and a frame will appear around the corrected portion. zYou can magnify or reduce the size of the image using the procedures in “Magnifying Images” (p. 125). Save as a new image and display. zPress the opqr buttons to choose [New File], then press the m button. XThe image will be saved as a new file.zFollow Step 5 on p. 146. Correcting the Red-Eye Effect •Some images may not be corrected properly. •When [Overwrite] in Step 4 is chosen, the uncorrected image is overwritten with the corrected data, erasing the original image. •Protected images cannot be overwritten. Movies cannot be corrected.
