    page„The drum unit may be damaged. Put in a new drum unit. See Replacing the drum 
    unit on page 101.
    „The toner cartridge may be damaged. Put in a new toner cartridge. See

    „Make sure that you use paper that meets our specifications. See About paper on 
    page 6.
    „If you use label sheets for laser printers, the glue from the sheets may sometimes 
    stick to the OPC drum surface. Clean the drum unit. See Clean the drum unit as 
    follows: on page 130.
    „Do not use paper that has clips or staples because they will scratch the surface 
    of the drum.
    „If the unpacked drum unit is in direct sunlight or room light, the unit may be 
    damaged.

    Curled or wavy„Check the paper type and quality. High temperatures and high humidity will cause 
    paper to curl. See About paper on page 6.
    „If you do not use the printer often, the paper may have been in the paper tray too 
    long. Turn over the stack of paper in the paper tray. Also, fan the paper stack and 
    then rotate the paper 180° in the paper tray.
    Wrinkles or creases„Make sure that the paper is loaded properly. See Printing on plain paper, bond 
    paper or transparencies from Tray 1, 2 or 3 on page 11.
    „Check the paper type and quality. See About paper on page 6.
    „Turn over the stack of paper in the tray or try rotating the paper 180° in the input 
    tray.
    Envelope Creases1) Open the back cover.
    2) Pull the blue lever until the mark (c) reaches beside the mark (   ) as shown 
    below.
    3) Resend the print job.
    Note When you have finished printing, open the back cover and reset the two blue levers 
    back to their original position.

    ProblemRecommendation
    The printer prints unexpectedly 
    or it prints garbage data.„Make sure that the printer cable is not too long. We recommend that you use a 
    parallel or USB cable that is no longer than 2 meters (6.5 feet).
    „Make sure that the printer cable is not damaged or broken.
    „If you are using an interface-switching device, remove it. Connect your computer 
    directly to your printer, and then try again.
    „Make sure that you have chosen the correct printer driver with ‘Set as Default 
    Printer’.
    „Make sure that the printer is not connected to the same port that is also 
    connected to a storage device or scanner. Take away all other devices and 
    connect the port only to the printer.
    „Turn off the Status Monitor.
    The printer cannot print full 
    pages of a document. An error 
    message MEMORY FULL 
    appears.„Press Go to print the remaining data in the printer memory. Cancel the print job 
    if you want to delete the remaining data in the printer memory. (See Control panel 
    buttons on page 83.)
    „Reduce the complexity of your document or cut the print resolution.
    „Add more memory. (See Installing extra memory on page 90.)
    The printer cannot print full 
    pages of a document. An error 
    message PRINT OVERRUN 
    appears.„Press Go to print the remaining data in the printer memory. Cancel the print job 
    if you want to delete the remaining data in the printer memory. See Control panel 
    buttons on page 83.
    „Reduce the complexity of your document or cut the print resolution.

    „Set page protection to Auto by using the supplied Windows
    ® driver.
    „Change the following settings in the supplied Windows
    ® driver and try again. The 
    best combination of these settings will vary depending on your document:

    The print speed slows down. Add optional memory. (See Installing extra memory on page 90.)
    The printer cannot print EPS data 
    that includes binary.You need the following settings to print EPS data:
    1) For Windows Vista
    ®: Click Start button, Control Panel, Hardware and 
    Sound, and then Printers.
    For Windows
    ® XP and Windows Server® 2003/2008: Click Start button, and 
    select Printers and Faxes windows.
    For Windows
    ® 2000: Click Start button, and select Settings and then 
    Printers.
    2) Right-click the Brother HL-XXXX BR_Script3 series icon and select 
    Properties.
    3) From the Device Settings tab, choose TBCP (Tagged binary communication
