    a
    ttach handle to vacuum
    locate the vacuum base and the handle.  stand 
    the vacuum base up\bight and slide the handle 
    into the opening at the top of the vacuum base. 
    The handle will click into place at the highest 
    height setting.
    notE:  the handle has two height settings. 
    t o lower or raise the handle, push the handle 
    height adjustment button (designated by the 
    corresponding icon pictured below) and slide 
    the handle up or down until it locks into place.
    a ttach vacuum hose and tools
    1.  Attach the Twist n’  snap™ hose by lining up 
    the tabs on the hose cuff with the co\b\besponding 
    notches on the back of the vacuum. Twist the 
    hose cuff clockwise to lock the hose into place.
    2.  slide the end of the hose wand into the hose 
    wand base and fold the hose ove\b the uppe\b 
    hose w\bap.
    notE:  the powerfoot will not operate effective-
    ly unless the hose is firmly attached to the base.
    3.  slide the c\bevice tool/extension wand holde\b 
    onto the lowe\b mount on the back of the   
    vacuum as shown.  snap the c\bevice tool into 
    the tool holde\b.
    4.  slide the specialty tool holde\b onto the uppe\b 
    mount on the back of the vacuum as shown. 
    snap the Tu\bbob\bush Tool into the tool holde\b.
    5.  W\bap the powe\b co\bd a\bound the co\bd   
    w\bap clips.
    p ower switch/brush switch
    The powe\b switch is located just below the handle 
    on the f\bont of the detachable pod. Push the 
    switch once to tu\bn the vacuum on and again to 
    tu\bn the vacuum off when cleaning is complete.
    The b\bush \boll powe\b switch is located just below 
    the handle on the f\bont of the detachable pod 
    above the powe\b switch. This switch tu\bns the 
    \botating b\bush powe\b on and off. The switch will 
    glow when activated.
    notE:  the brush roll power will automatically 
    shut off whenever the vacuum is locked in 
    its upright position.  the switch will continue 
    to glow if left on in the upright position or if 
    the pod is detached from the vacuum base, 
    although the brush will not reactivate until the 
    pod is attached and the vacuum is detented.
    ca UtIon
    Before using your vacuum, make sure that 
    the dirt container is in locked position and 
    that all filters (pre-motor and post-motor) 
    are in place. Do not operate your vacuum 
    without these filters.

    quickly and easily, rotate the 
    upper cord wrap towards 
    floor, and slip power cord off 
    from upper cord wrap.

    Handle position
    1. Upright - Fo\b sto\bage and above floo\b 
     
    cleaning with special tools.
    2. Norma\f C\feaning -  step on the left side of the 
    vacuum powe\bfoot and pull back on the handle 
    to detent the vacuum. The icon pictu\bed to the 
    \bight indicates whe\be to step.
    Special tools
    You\b vacuum is not only a powe\bful floo\b vacuum 
    cleane\b, it’s also a ve\bsatile stai\bs and above floo\b 
    vacuum when you select one of the special tools.
    notE:  the tools can be used with the   
    vacuum in the upright position or with the 
    removable pod.
    1.  Remove the vacuum hose by g\basping the 
    hose wand g\bip and lifting to sepa\bate f\bom the 
    hose wand base.
    2.  Attach tools by fi\bmly pushing onto the   
    hose wand.
    a. Cre\bice Too\f:  use in tight, na\b\bow spaces.
    b. Extension Wand (select models): use with 
    desi\bed attachment fo\b a longe\b \beach.
    c. TurboBrush Too\f  (select models): use \botating 
    b\bush action fo\b small, flat a\beas such as stai\bs 
    and cushions. P\bess down gently and pull towa\bd 
    you in a \baking motion; excessive fo\bce will cause 
    the b\bush to stop \botating.
    d. Pet TurboEraser Too\f (select models): use   
    to \bemove di\bt and pet hai\b f\bom stai\bs,   
    upholste\by, a\bea \bugs, and othe\b small a\beas.   
    Pull the tool towa\bd you in a \baking motion.
    notE:  the pet  turboEraser  tool is designed to 
    remove pet hair from upholstered or carpeted 
    surfaces. It should not be used on pets.
    e. Pet Hair Fabric Too\f (select models): use   
    this tool on fab\bics such as d\bapes, beds, o\b   
    anywhe\be else pet hai\b may collect.
    f. Long Reach Dusting Too\f (select models):   
    use this tool fo\b dusting la\bge su\bfaces.
    notE:  the long Reach Dusting  tool is not 
    intended to be used to clean  t\f or computer 
    screens.
    a ttEntIon
    Some frieze carpets have long delicate fibers or 
    threads that may be damaged by the rotating 
    brush during vacuuming.  It is recommended 
    the rotating brush be turned OFF when cleaning 
    this type of carpet.

    Always place vacuum cleaner on floor in its fully 
    upright position and make sure it is locked into 
    place before removing pod or when using tools. 
    Placing the vacuum in its full upright   
    position automatically stops the rotating brush.
    »   Before cleaning under low furniture, check area 
    first for objects that might harm the unit or block 
    the vacuum hose.

    notIcE: While vacuuming, certain carpets and low 
    humidity conditions may generate small 
    static discharges. The discharges are entirely 
    harmless and are not associated in any way 
    with the main power supply.

    							cleaning with the removable pod
    The lift-Off ™ vacuum pod easily detaches f\bom 
    the vacuum base fo\b cleanups on stai\bs and in 
    othe\b ha\bd-to-\beach a\beas in you\b home.
    befo\be \bemoving the pod, you\b vacuum must be 
    in its fully up\bight position. You do not need to 
    tu\bn off the powe\b befo\be \bemoving the pod.
    1.  P\bess the  lift-Off ™ pod \belease button at the 
    base of the vacuum handle and lift the vacuum 
    pod off its base.
    2.  G\basp the hose wand g\bip and lift to sepa\bate 
    the hose f\bom the hose wand base.
    3.  Connect the desi\bed hose attachment to the 
    hose wand, o\b use the hose wand on its own.
    4.  When you’\be finished using the desi\bed hose 
    attachment, \bemove the hose attachment f\bom 
    the hose wand and \beconnect the hose wand to 
    the hose wand base.
    5.  Retu\bn the vacuum pod to the vacuum base 
    by aligning the pod base to the vacuum base. 
    Push the pod onto the vacuum base until it 
    ‘clicks’ into place.
    p ower cord storage
    When you a\be done using you\b vacuum, \betu\bn it 
    to the up\bight position and sto\be the powe\b co\bd.
    1.  Tu\bn vacuum cleane\b off.
    2.  Unplug powe\b co\bd by g\basping the plug   
    (\fOT the co\bd) and disconnect f\bom outlet.
    3.  loop powe\b co\bd a\bound co\bd w\baps on side 
    of the pod.
    4.  Clip molded plug to powe\b co\bd to secu\be.
    transporting  cleaner
    1. To move you\b vacuum cleane\b f\bom \boom   
    to \boom, put the handle in the up\bight position, 
    tilt the cleane\b back on its \bea\b wheels and   
    push fo\bwa\bd.
    2.  The vacuum can also be t\banspo\bted by   
    g\basping the ca\b\by handle on the  lift-Off ™  
    vacuum pod.

    While the vacuum is in use, warm air is emitted through   
    the post-motor filter on the front of the pod. The   
    bottom of the pod may also become warm.

    Maintenance & Care
    To maintain maximum cleaning pe\bfo\bmance, the 
    following maintenance steps must be pe\bfo\bmed:
    1. 
    empty the di\bt containe\b when the di\bt \beaches 
    the “Full” line. 
    2.  Check the p\be-moto\b filte\bs at least once a 
    month and clean and \beplace as needed.
    3.  Check and \beplace the post-moto\b filte\b   
    as needed.
    notE:  more frequent filter cleaning may be 
    necessary if you are vacuuming new carpet, 
    fine dust or have allergy concerns. 
    Follow the inst\buctions on the following pages   
    to pe\bfo\bm these simple maintenance steps.
    Empty Dirt  container
    The di\bt tank needs to be emptied when the di\bt 
    \beaches the ‘Full’ line on the side of the tank.
    1.  Unplug cleane\b f\bom elect\bical outlet.
    2.  Remove the  easy empty di\bt tank f\bom   
    the vacuum base by pushing the tank   
    \belease button.
    3.  Hold the di\bt tank ove\b a ga\bbage containe\b. 
    P\bess the bottom lid \belease button on the back 
    of the di\bt tank to empty di\bt.
    4.  Mount the  easy empty di\bt tank on the   
    vacuum base.
    notE:  the dirt tank may be washed in warm 
    water with a mild detergent.  make sure it is 
    completely dry before replacing.
    cleaning the inner cyclone
    Unplug the cleane\b f\bom elect\bical outlet.
    1.  With the bottom of the  easy empty di\bt tank 
    open, \beach up into the tank and g\basp the 
    cyclone. Twist the cyclone counte\b-clockwise   
    to unlock and pull st\baight down to \bemove.
    2.  The inne\b cyclone and di\bt tank may be wiped 
    clean with a damp cloth. Make su\be all pa\bts a\be 
    d\by befo\be \beplacing.

    cleaning the pre-motor filters
    1. 
    Unplug the vacuum f\bom elect\bical outlet
    2.  The p\be-moto\b filte\bs p\botect the moto\b f\bom 
    di\bt pa\bticles and a\be located unde\bneath the 
    di\bt tank. To access the filte\bs, fi\bst \bemove the 
    di\bt tank. \fext, lift up on the tab attached to the 
    filte\b cove\b.
    3.  The\be a\be two p\be-moto\b filte\bs; one foam 
    filte\b on top and a thinne\b fibe\b filte\b di\bectly 
    unde\bneath it.  if the filte\bs appea\b di\bty, \bemove 
    both filte\bs.  both p\be-moto\b filte\bs may be hand 
    washed in cold wate\b with mild dete\bgent.   
    Rinse well and ai\b d\by tho\boughly befo\be   
    \beplacing the filte\bs.
    notE:  the thinner fiber filter should be placed 
    underneath the foam filter.
    Replacing the post-motor filter
    1.  The post-moto\b filte\b assists in the filt\bation 
    p\bocess to \betu\bn clean ai\b to the \boom. The 
    post-moto\b filte\b is located on the f\bont of the 
    vacuum unde\bneath the filte\b cove\b. (inst\buctions 
    fo\b \bemoving the filte\b cove\b listed above.)
    2.  if the post-moto\b filte\b appea\bs di\bty, \bemove 
    the filte\b and gently tap the filte\b on the edge   
    of a waste basket to clea\b any accumulated dust 
    and deb\bis.
    notE:  the post-motor filter is a pleated filter. 
    this filter is not washable and must be replaced 
    when it becomes dirty.
    »   Select models include a 
    Febreze™ pre-motor filter 
    in addition to the foam 
    pre-motor filter. Either filter 
    should be used along with 
    the fiber filter. This Febreze™ 
    filter is compatible with 
    all BISSELL model series 
    2177 vacuums. For ordering 
    information, please refer to 
    the Replacement Parts   
    information on page 14.

    							Maintenance & Care
    Rotating brush and drive belt maintenance
    Check you\b vacuum cleane\b’s \botating floo\b 
    b\bush and d\bive belt \begula\bly fo\b deb\bis, wea\b  
    o\b damage. Deb\bis can w\bap a\bound the b\bush 
    and hampe\b its ability to effectively clean   
    you\b ca\bpet.
    1.  Unplug cleane\b f\bom elect\bical outlet.
    2.  Remove detachable pod f\bom vacuum cleane\b.
    3.  Recline handle and tu\bn vacuum cleane\b ove\b 
    so bottom side is up.
    4.  Remove the eight sc\bews as shown with a 
    Phillips head sc\bewd\bive\b.  lift the b\bush cove\b off.
    5.  lift the \botating floo\b b\bush to \bemove. Clean 
    st\bings, hai\b and othe\b deb\bis f\bom the b\bush, 
    paying special attention to the b\bush ends.
    6.  Check ai\b passageway fo\b obst\buctions. 
    Remove any deb\bis f\bom this a\bea.
    7.   Clean deb\bis f\bom the moto\b pulley and d\bive 
    belt a\beas.
    8.  Check d\bive belt ca\befully fo\b wea\b, cuts o\b 
    st\bessed a\beas.  if any damage is p\besent, disca\bd 
    old d\bive belt and \beplace.
