Connection 21 •Press QCast on the projector or remote control. •Press SOURCE and select HDMI-2/MHL from the source selection bar. 4. You can start the wireless projection now. If the wireless projection stops unexpectedly, press QCast to turn off the QCast dongle. Pressing QCast on the projector or remote control to reboot the dongle. The input source HDMI-2/MHL cannot be found when the projector automatically searches for the available signals. Compatibility with MHL dongles of other brands is not guaranteed. The wifi dongle Qcast is turned off now. (MHL power is off now) Click the QCast button again to reboot the wifi dongle QCast. Notice
Operation 22 Operation Starting up the projector 1. Plug the power cord into the projector and into a power outlet. Turn on the power outlet switch (where fitted). Check that the POWER indicator light on the projector lights orange after power has been applied. Please use the original accessories (e.g. power cord) only with the device to avoid possible dangers such as electric shock and fire. 2. Press POWER to start the projector. As soon as the lamp lights up, a Pow e r On Ring Tone will be heard. The POWER indicator light flashes green and stays green when the projector is on. The start up procedure takes about 30 seconds. In the later stage of start up, a startup logo is projected. (If necessary) Rotate the focus ring to adjust the image clearness. To turn off the ring tone, see Turning off the Power On/Off Ring Tone on page 38 for details. If the projector is still hot from previous activity, it will run the cooling fan for approximately 90 seconds before energizing the lamp. 3. If the projector is activated for the first time, select your OSD language following the on-screen instructions. 4. If you are prompted for a password, press the arrow keys to enter a six-digit password. See Utilizing the password function on page 27 for details. 5. Switch all of the connected equipment on. 6. The projector will start to search for input signals. The current input signal being scanned appears in the upper left corner of the screen. If the projector doesnt detect a valid signal, the message “No Signal” will continue displaying until an input signal is found. You can also press SOURCE on the projector or remote control to select your desired input signal. See Switching input signal on page 29 for details. If the frequency/resolution of the input signal exceeds the projectors operating range, you will see the message “Out of Range” displayed on the background screen. Please change to an input signal which is compatible with the projectors resolution or set the input signal to a lower setting. See Timing chart on page 61 for details. If no signal is detected for 3 minutes, the projector automatically enters saving mode.
Operation 23 Adjusting the projected image Adjusting the projection angle The projector is equipped with a quick-release adjuster foot and 2 rear adjuster feet. These adjusters change the image height and projection angle. To adjust the projection angle: 1. Press the quick-release button and lift the front of the projector. Once the image is positioned as desired, release the quick- release button to lock the foot in position. 2. Screw the rear adjuster feet to fine-tune the horizontal angle. To retract the feet, screw the rear adjuster feet in a reverse direction. If the projector is not placed on a flat surface or the screen and the projector are not perpendicular to each other, the projected image becomes trapezoidal. To correct this situation, see Correcting keystone on page 24 for details. Auto-adjusting the image In some cases, you may need to optimize the picture quality. To do this, press AUTO on the projector or remote control. Within 3 seconds, the built-in Intelligent Auto Adjustment function will re-adjust the values of Frequency and Clock to provide the best picture quality. The current source information will be displayed in the corner of the screen for 3 seconds. This function is only available when PC signal (analog RGB) is selected. Fine-tuning the image size and clarity 212 Do not look into the lens while the lamp is on. The strong light from the lamp may cause damage to your eyes. Be careful when you press the quick- release button as it is close to the exhaust vent where hot air comes from. 1. Adjust the projected image to the size that you need using the zoom ring. 2. Sharpen the image by rotating the focus ring.
Operation 24 Correcting keystone Keystoning refers to the situation where the projected image is noticeably wider at either the top or bottom. It occurs when the proj ector is not perpendicular to the screen. You can correct this automatically following these steps: 1. Press MENU and then press / until the DISPLAY menu is highlighted. 2. Press to highlight Auto Keystone and press / to select On. To manually correct this, you will need to follow these steps: 1. Do one of the following steps to display the keystone correction page. •Press KEYSTONE on the remote control. •Press QUICK INSTALL on the remote control. Press to highlight 2D Keystone and press OK. •Press MENU and then press / until the DISPLAY menu is highlighted. Press to highlight 2D Keystone and press OK. 2. The 2D Keystone correction page displays. Press to correct keystoning at the top of the image. Press to correct keystoning at the bottom of the image. Press on the projector to correct keystoning at the right side of the image. Press on the projector to correct keystoning at the left side of the image. Adjusting Corner Fit You can manually adjust four corners of the image by setting the horizontal and vertical values. 1. Do one of the following steps to display the corner fit correction page. •Press QUICK INSTALL on the remote control. Press to highlight Corner Fit and press OK. •Press MENU and then press / until the DISPLAY menu is highlighted. Press to highlight Corner Fit and press OK. 2. Operation 26 Using the menus The projector is equipped with On-Screen Display (OSD) menus for making various adjustments and settings. The OSD screenshots below are for reference only, and may differ from the actual design. Below is the overview of the OSD menu. The following example describes how to set the OSD language. 1. Press MENU on the projector or remote control to turn the OSD menu on.3. Press to highlight Language and press OK. 2. Use / to highlight the SYSTEM SETUP: Basic menu.4. Press / / / to select a preferred language and press OK. 5. Press BACK to go back or press MENU to leave. Operation 27 Securing the projector Using a security cable lock The projector has to be installed in a safe place to prevent theft. Otherwise, purchase a lock, such as the Kensington lock, to secure the projector. You can locate a Kensington lock slot on the rear side of the projector. See item 25 on page 9 for details. A Kensington security cable lock is usually a combination of key(s) and the lock. Refer to the lock’s documentation for finding out how to use it. Utilizing the password function For security purposes and to help prevent unauthorized use, the projector includes an option for setting up password security. The password can be set through the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. WARNING: You will be inconvenienced if you activate the password functionality and subsequently forget the password. Print out this manual (if necessary) and write the password you used in this manual, and keep the manual in a safe place for later recall. Setting a password Once a password has been set and the power on lock is activated, the projector cannot be used unless the correct password is entered every time the projector is started. 1. Open the OSD menu and go to the SYSTEM SETUP: Advanced > Security Settings menu. Press OK. The Security Settings page appears. 2. Highlight Change Security Settings and press OK. 3. As pictured to the right, the four arrow keys (, , , ) respectively represent 4 digits (1, 2, 3, 4). According to the password you desire to set, press the arrow keys to enter six digits for the password. 4. Confirm the new password by re-entering the new password. Once the password is set, the OSD menu returns to the Security Settings page. 5. To activate the Power On Lock function, press / to highlight Power On Lock and press / to select On. IMPORTANT: The digits being input will display as asterisks on-screen. Write your selected password down here in this manual in advance or right after the password is entered so that it is available to you should you ever forget it. Password: __ __ __ __ __ __ Keep this manual in a safe place. 6. To leave the OSD menu, press BACK. If you forget the password If the password function is activated, you will be asked to enter the six-digit password every time you turn on the projector. If you enter the wrong password, the password error message as pictured to the right will appear, and the INPUT PASSWORD message follows. You can retry by entering another six-digit password, or if you did not record the password in this INPUT NEW PASSWORD Back Password Error Please try again.
Operation 28manual, and you absolutely do not remember it, you can use the password recall procedure. See Entering the password recall procedure on page 28 for details. If you enter an incorrect password 5 times in succession, the projector will automatically shut down in a short time. Entering the password recall procedure 1. Press and hold AUTO on the projector or remote control for 3 seconds. The projector will display a coded number on the screen. 2. Write down the number and turn off your projector. 3. Seek help from the local BenQ service center to decode the number. You may be required to provide proof of purchase documentation to verify that you are an authorized user of the projector. Changing the password 1. Open the OSD menu and go to the SYSTEM SETUP: Advanced> Security Settings > Change Password menu. 2. Press OK. The message “INPUT CURRENT PASSWORD” appears. 3. Enter the old password. i. If the password is correct, another message “INPUT NEW PASSWORD” appears. ii. If the password is incorrect, the password error message will appear, and the message “INPUT CURRENT PASSWORD” appears for your retry. You can press BACK to cancel the change or try another password. 4. Enter a new password. IMPORTANT: The digits being input will display as asterisks on-screen. Write your selected password down here in this manual in advance or right after the password is entered so that it is available to you should you ever forget it. Password: __ __ __ __ __ __ Keep this manual in a safe place. 5. Confirm the new password by re-entering the new password. 6. You have successfully assigned a new password to the projector. Remember to enter the new password next time the projector is started. 7. To leave the OSD menu, press BACK. Disabling the password function To disable password protection, go back to the SYSTEM SETUP: Advanced > Security Settings > Change Security Settings menu after opening the OSD menu system. Press OK. The message “INPUT PASSWORD” appears. Enter the current password. i. If the password is correct, the OSD menu returns to the Security Settings page. Press to highlight Power On Lock and press / to select Off. You will not have to enter the password next time when turning on the projector. Please write down the recall code, and contact BenQ Customer Center. Recall Code: 255 255 255 255 RECALL PASSWORD Exit
Operation 29 ii. If the password is incorrect, the password error message will appear, and the message “INPUT PASSWORD” appears for your retry. You can press BACK to cancel the change or try another password. Though the password function is disabled, you need to keep the old password in hand should you ever need to re-activate the password function by entering the old password. Switching input signal The projector can be connected to multiple devices at the same time. However, it can only display one full screen at a time. When starting up, the projector automatically searches for the available signals. Be sure the Quick Auto Search function in the SOURCE menu is On if you want the projector to automatically search for the signals. To select the source: 1. Press SOURCE. A source selection bar appears. 2. Press / until your desired signal is selected and press OK. Once detected, the selected source information will display at the corner of the screen for seconds. If there is multiple equipment connected to the projector, repeat steps 1-2 to search for another signal. The brightness level of the projected image will change accordingly when you switch between different input signals. Data (graphic) PC presentations using mostly static images are generally brighter than Video using mostly moving images (movies). The native display resolution of this projector is in a 4:3 (MX704)/16:10 (MW705) aspect ratio. For best display picture results, you should select and use an input signal which outputs at this resolution. Any other resolutions will be scaled by the projector depending upon the “aspect ratio” setting, which may cause some image distortion or loss of picture clarity. See Selecting the aspect ratio on page 30 for details. Changing Color Space In the unlikely event that you connect the projector to a DVD player via the projector’s HDMI input and the projected picture displays wrong colors, please change the color space to YUV. To d o t h i s : 1. Press MENU and then press / until the SOURCE menu is highlighted. 2. Press to highlight Color Space Conversion and press / to select a suitable color space. This function is only available when the HDMI-input port is in use.
Operation 30 Magnifying and searching for details If you need to find the details on the projected picture, magnify the picture. Use the direction arrow keys for navigating the picture. 1. Press MENU and then press / until the DISPLAY menu is highlighted. 2. Press to highlight Digital Zoom and press OK. The Zoom bar appears. 3. Press repeatedly to magnify the picture to a desired size. 4. To navigate the picture, press OK to switch to the panning mode and press the directional arrows ( , , , ) on the projector or remote control to navigate the picture. 5. To reduce size of the picture, press AUTO to restore the picture to its original size. You can also press repeatedly until it is restored to the original size. The picture can only be navigated after it is magnified. You can further magnify the picture while searching for details. Selecting the aspect ratio The “aspect ratio” is the ratio of the image width to the image height. Most analog TV and some computers are in 4:3 ratio, and digital TV and DVDs are usually in 16:9 ratio. With the advent of digital signal processing, digital display devices like this projector can dynamically stretch and scale the image output to a different aspect than that of the image input signal. To change the projected picture ratio (no matter what aspect the source is): • Using the remote control 1. Press ASPECT to show the current setting. 2. Press ASPECT repeatedly to select an aspect ratio to suit the format of the video signal and your display requirements. • Using the OSD menu 1. Press MENU and then press / until the DISPLAY menu is highlighted. 2. Press to highlight Aspect Ratio. 3. Press / to select an aspect ratio to suit the format of the video signal and your display requirements.
