Remote control
1. POWER
Toggles the projector between standby 
mode and on.

Remote control effective range
The remote control must be held at an angle within 30 degrees perpendicular to the 
projectors IR remote control sensor(s) to function correctly. The distance between the 
remote control and the sensor(s) should not exceed 8 meters (~ 26 feet).
Make sure that there are no obstacles between the remote control and the IR sensor(s) on 
the projector that might obstruct the infra-red beam. 11. PAGE +/PAGE -
Operate your display software program 
(on a connected PC) which responds to 
page up/down commands (like Microsoft 
PowerPoint).

Selects the display aspect ratio.
13. NETWORK SETTING

Switches the projector source to HDMI-
2/MHL.

Automatically determines the best

Operating the LASER pointer
The Laser Pointer is a 
presentation aid for professionals. 
It emits red colored light when 
you press it.
The laser beam is visible. It is 
necessary to press and hold 
LASER for continuous output. 
WA R N I N G :
Do not look into the laser light window or shine the 
laser light beam on yourself or others. See the warning 
messages on the back of the remote control prior to 
using it.
The laser pointer is not a toy. Parents should be 
mindful of the dangers of laser energy and keep 
this remote control out of the reach of children.

Replacing the remote control batteries
1. To open the battery cover, turn the remote control over to view its back, push on 
the finger grip on the cover and slide it up in the direction of the arrow as illustrated. 
The cover will slide off.
2. Remove any existing batteries (if necessary) and install two AAA batteries observing 
the battery polarities as indicated in the base of the battery compartment. Positive 
(+) goes to positive and negative (-) goes to negative.
3. Refit the cover by aligning it with the base and sliding it back down into position. Stop 
when it clicks into place.
WA R N I N G :
•  Avoid leaving the remote control and batteries in an excessive heat or humid environment like the 
kitchen, bathroom, sauna, sunroom or in a closed car.
•  Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the battery manufacturer.
•  Dispose of the used batteries according to the manufacturers instructions and local environment 
regulations for your region.
•  Never throw the batteries into a fire. There may be danger of an explosion.
•  If the batteries are dead or if you will not be using the remote control for an extended period of time, 
remove the batteries to avoid damage to the remote control from possible battery leakage.

Positioning your projector
Choosing a location
Your room layout or personal preference will dictate which installation location you select. 
Take into consideration the size and position of your screen, the location of a suitable 
power outlet, as well as the location and distance between the projector and the rest of 
your equipment.
Your projector is designed to be installed in one of the following possible installation 
locations. Corresponding setting can be made in the OSD menu.
After turning on the projector, you can set the projector position by one of the following 
steps.
• Press MENU and then press  /  until the SYSTEM SETUP: Basic menu is 
highlighted. Press   to highlight Projector Installation and press  /  to select a 
setting.
• Press QUICK INSTALL on the remote control and then press / until 
Projector Installation is highlighted. Press OK and press  /  to select a setting. 1. Front Table
Select this location with the projector 
placed on the table in front of the screen. 
This is the most common way to position 
the projector for quick setup and 
portability.
2. Front Ceiling
Select this location with the projector 
suspended upside-down from the ceiling in 
front of the screen.
Purchase the BenQ Projector Ceiling 
Mount Kit from your dealer to mount your 
projector on the ceiling. 3. Rear Ceiling
Select this location with the projector 
suspended upside-down from the ceiling 
behind the screen.
Note that a special rear projection screen 
and the BenQ Projector Ceiling Mount Kit 
are required for this installation location.
4. Rear Table
Select this location with the projector 
placed on the table behind the screen.
Note that a special rear projection screen

Obtaining a preferred projected image size
The distance from the projector lens to the screen, the zoom setting, and the video format 
each factors in the projected image size.

							Positioning your projector 16For example, if you are using an 120-inch screen, the recommended projection distance is 
3425 mm.
If your measured projection distance is 5200 mm, the closest match in the Distance from 
screen (mm) column is 5137 mm. Looking across this row shows that a 180 (about 4.6 
m) screen is required.
All measurements are approximate and may vary from the actual sizes. 
BenQ recommends that if you intend to permanently install the projector, you should physically test the 
projection size and distance using the actual projector in situ before you permanently install it, so as to make 
allowance for this projectors optical characteristics. This will help you determine the exact mounting position 
so that it best suits your installation location.

Connection
When connecting a signal source to the projector, be sure to:
1. Turn all equipment off before making any connections.
2. Use the correct signal cables for each source.
3. Ensure the cables are firmly inserted.
In the connections shown below, some cables may not be included with the projector (see Shipping contents 
on page 8). They are commercially available from electronics stores.
The connection illustrations below are for reference only. The rear connecting jacks available on the projector 
vary with each projector model.

Many notebooks do not turn on their external video ports when connected to a projector. Usually a key 
combo like FN + F3 or CRT/LCD key turns the external display on/off. Locate a function key labeled CRT/LCD 
or a function key with a monitor symbol on the notebook. Press FN and the labeled function key 
simultaneously. Refer to your notebooks documentation to find your notebooks key combination.
The D-Sub output only works when an appropriate D-Sub input is made to the PC jack.
If you wish to use this connection method when the projector is in standby mode, make sure the Monitor 
Out function is turned on in the SYSTEM SETUP: Advanced menu. See Standby Settings on page 48 for 
details.
Connecting video source devices
You need only connect the projector to a video source device using just one of the 
connecting methods, however each provides a different level of video quality. The method 
you choose will most likely depend upon the availability of matching terminals on both the 
projector and the video source device as described below:
Connecting audio
The projector has built-in mono speaker(s) which are designed to provide basic audio 
functionality accompanying data presentations for business purposes only. Any stereo 
audio input (if provided), is mixed into a common mono audio output through the 
projector speaker(s).
The built-in speaker(s) will be muted when the AUDIO OUT jack is connected.
If the selected video image is not displayed after the projector is turned on and the correct video source has 
been selected, check that the video source device is turned on and operating correctly. Also check that the 
signal cables have been connected correctly.

Connecting video streaming dongle - QCast 
(optional accessory)
This dongle allows you to perform a wireless projection from your smart device or 
computer. To purchase the QCast dongle, contact your local dealer.
Installation
1. Loosen the screw that secures the wireless cover 
and open the wireless cover.
2. Slide the switcher on the dongle to MHL and 
connect the dongle to the HDMI-2/MHL port.
3. Replace the wireless cover and tighten the screw 
that secures the wireless cover.
Starting the wireless projection
1. Turn on the projector.
2. After the QCast dongle is properly connected to 
the HDMI-2/MHL port, the LED indicator lights 
up orange.
When other MHL dongle or a MHL cable with a MHL-enabled 
device connected is plugged into the HDMI-2/MHL port, the LED 
indicator lights up orange.
3. Enable the wireless function using the QCast 
dongle by one of the following steps.

•Press SOURCE and select HDMI-2/MHL from the source selection bar.
4. You can start the wireless projection now.
If the wireless projection stops unexpectedly, press QCast to turn off the QCast dongle. 
Pressing QCast on the projector or remote control to reboot the dongle.
The input source HDMI-2/MHL cannot be found when the projector automatically searches for the available 
signals.
Compatibility with MHL dongles of other brands is not guaranteed.
The wifi dongle QCast is turned off now.
(MHL power is off now)
Click the QCast button again to reboot the wifi dongle QCast.
