11 Overview Remote control 1. ON, OFF Toggles the projector between on and off mode. 2. 3D, INVERT Launches the 3D menu and toggles the invert function between on and off. 3. Arrow keys ( Left, Right, Up, Down) When the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu is activated, these keys are used as directional arrows to select the desired menu items and to make adjustments. When the OSD menu is off and you are under the MHL connection mode, these arrows keys are available for controlling your smart device. 4. OK Confirms the selected OSD menu item. When the OSD menu is off and you are under the MHL connection mode, use the key to confirm the selection on the OSD of your smart device. 5. BACK Goes back to previous OSD menu, exits and saves menu settings. When the OSD menu is off and you are under the MHL connection mode, use the key to return or exit the OSD menu of your smart device.6. MENU • Accesses the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. • Goes back to previous OSD menu, exits and saves menu settings. 7. , , • Mute: Toggles projector audio between on and off. • Vo l u m e D o w n: Decreases the projector volume. • Vo l u m e U p: Increases the projector volume. 8. MHL control buttons ( Backward, Play/Pause, Forward, Rewind, Stop, Fast forward) Goes to the previous file/Plays/Pauses/Goes to the next file/Rewinds/Stops/Fast-forwards during media playback. Only available when controlling your smart device in MHL mode. When you are under the MHL connection mode and the OSD is off, these buttons are available for controlling your smart device: arrow keys, OK, BACK, and MHL control buttons. 9. KEYSTONE Launches the 2D Keystone window. Use the Arrow keys to manually correct distorted images resulting from an angled projection. 10. MODE Selects an available picture mode. 11. LIGHT The LED backlight lights up and stays on for approximately 30 seconds when pressing any key on the remote control. Pressing any other keys within the 10 second again turns the LED backlight off. 12. AUTO Automatically determines the best picture timings for the displayed image. 13. ECO BLANK Used to blank the screen picture. 14. SOURCE Displays the source selection bar. 15. Picture quality adjustment keys These function keys perform the same tasks as specified in the OSD menu. 16. FINE TUNE Displays the Color Temperature Fine Tuning window. 12 Overview Installing/replacing the remote control batteries 1. Press and slide off the battery cover, as illustrated. 2. Remove the old batteries (if applicable) and install two AAA batteries within. Make sure that the positive and negative ends are positioned correctly, as illustrated. 3. Slide the battery cover in until it clicks into place. • Avoid leaving the remote control and batteries in an excessive heat or humid environment like the kitchen, bathroom, sauna, sunroom or in a closed car. • Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the battery manufacturer. • Dispose of the used batteries according to the manufacturers instructions and local environment regulations for your region. • Never throw the batteries into a fire. There may be danger of an explosion. • If the batteries are dead or if you will not be using the remote control for an extended period of time, remove the batteries to avoid damage to the remote control from possible battery leakage. Remote control effective range The remote control must be held at an angle within 30 degrees perpendicular to the projectors IR remote control sensor(s) to function correctly. The distance between the remote control and the sensor(s) should not exceed 8 meters (~ 26 feet). 13 Installation Installation Choosing a location Before choosing an installation location for your projector, take the following factors into consideration: • Size and position of your screen • Electrical outlet location • Location and distance between the projector and the rest of your equipment You can install your projector in the following ways. 1. Front: Select this location with the projector placed near the floor in front of the screen. This is the most common way to position the projector for quick setup and portability. Turn on the projector and make the following settings: MENU > Settings or System Setup : Basic > Projector Po s i t i o n > Front3. Front Ceiling: Select this location with the projector suspended from the ceiling in front of the screen. Turn on the projector and make the following settings: MENU > Settings or System Setup : Basic > Projector Position > Front Ceiling Purchase the BenQ Projector Ceiling Mount Kit from your dealer to mount your projector on the ceiling. 2. Rear: Select this location with the projector placed near the floor behind the screen. Turn on the projector and make the following settings: MENU > Settings or System Setup : Basic > Projector Po s i t i o n > Rear4.Rear Ceiling: Select this location with the projector suspended from the ceiling behind the screen. Turn on the projector and make the following settings: MENU > Settings or System Setup : Basic > Projector Position > Rear Ceiling A special rear projection screen is required. A special rear projection screen and the BenQ Projector Ceiling Mount Kit are required.
14 Installation Obtaining a preferred projected image size The projected image size is determined by the distance from the projector lens to the screen, the zoom setting, and the video format. HT1075 is equipped with movable lens. See ‘Shifting the projection lens vertically (HT1075 only) for details. Projection dimensions Use the illustration and tables below to help you determine the projection distance. HT1075 HT1085ST All measurements are approximate and may vary from the actual sizes. If you want a permanent installation of the projector, we recommend that you use the actual projector to physically test the projection size, distance, and the projectors optical characteristics prior to the installation. This helps you determine the exact mounting position which best suits your installation. 15 Installation Shifting the projection lens vertically (HT1075 only) The vertical lens shift control provides flexibility for installing your projector. It allows the projector to be positioned slightly above or below the top level of the projected images. The lens shift (offset) is expressed as a percentage of the projected image height. It is measured as an offset from the projected images vertical center. Use the lever to shift the projection lens upwards or downwards within the allowable range depending on your desired image position. To use the lens shift lever: 1. Release the lever by turning it counterclockwise. 2. Move the lever to adjust the projected image position. 3. Lock the lever by turning it clockwise. • When the screen position is fixed • When the projector position is fixed • Do not over-tighten the lever. • Lens shift adjustment does not result in a degraded picture quality. 16 Connection Connection When connecting a signal source to the projector, be sure to: 1. Turn all equipment off before making any connections. 2. Use the correct signal cables for each source. 3. Make sure the cables are firmly inserted. • In the connection illustrations shown below, some cables may not be included with the projector (see Shipping contents). They are commercially available from electronics stores. • The illustrations below are for reference only. 17 Connection Connecting with video equipment You need only connect the projector to a video source device using just one of the connecting methods. Each video source provides different picture quality. The method you choose most likely depends upon the availability of matching terminals on both the projector and the video source device as described below: In the connection illustrations shown below, some cables may not be included with the projector (see Shipping contents). They are commercially available from electronics stores. Connecting HDMI devices HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) supports uncompressed video data transmission between compatible devices like DTV tuners, DVD players, Blu-ray players and displays over a single cable. You should use an HDMI cable when making a connection between the projector and HDMI devices. 18 Connection Connecting smart devices The projector can project the content directly from a MHL compatible smart device. Using an HDMI to Micro USB cable or an HDMI to Micro USB adaptor, you can connect your smart devices to the projector and then enjoy your content on the big screen. Some smart devices may not be compatible to the cable that you use. Please consult the manufacturer of your smart device for detailed information. Using an HDMI to Micro USB cable 1. Connect one end of the HDMI to Micro USB cable to the HDMI input connector on the projector. 2. Connect the other end of the HDMI to Micro USB cable to the Micro USB output socket on your smart device. 3. Switch to the HDMI/MHL input source. To switch input signal, see Selecting an input source for details. Using an HDMI to Micro USB adaptor and an HDMI cable 1. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input connector on the projector. 2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input socket on the adaptor. 3. Connect the other end of the adaptor to the Micro USB output socket on your smart device. 4. Switch to the HDMI/MHL input source. To switch input signal, see Selecting an input source for details. 19 Connection Connecting component-video devices The RCA type component video jacks are provided for connection to video output devices. You should also connect the separate audio cable to a suitable audio amplifier. Connecting video devices Connect your video device to the projector with a composite video cable. You should also connect the separate audio cable to a suitable audio amplifier. If the selected video image is not displayed after the projector is turned on and the correct video source has been selected, check if the video source device is turned on and operating correctly. 20 Connection Connecting a computer Connect the projector to a computer with a VGA cable. Many laptops do not turn on their external video ports when connected to a projector. Usually a key combination like Fn + F3 or CRT/LCD key turns the external display on/off. Locate a function key labeled CRT/LCD or a function key with a monitor symbol on the laptop. Press Fn and the labeled function key simultaneously. Refer to your laptop s documentation to discover your laptops key combination.
