Operation 17 Operation Start up 1. Switch all of the connected equipment on. 2. Plug the power cord into the projector and into a wall socket. Turn on the wall socket switch (where fitted). Turn on the power point (if switched). Check that the Power indicator on the projector lights orange after power has been applied. 3. Remove the lens cap. If it is left on, it could become deformed due to heat. 4. Press and hold (for 2 seconds) the Power button on the remote control or projector to start the unit. The Power indicator light flashes green and stays green when the unit is on. 5. The start up procedure takes about 30 seconds after pressing Power. In the later stage of start up, a default BenQ logo is projected. 6. If you are prompted for a password, press the arrow buttons to select the four password digits, then press Auto. For information about the password function, refer to page 17. 7. The projector will start to search for input signals. The projector screen displays the current input source being scanned at the bottom right corner of the screen. If no input source signal is detected, the search will continue until an input source signal is detected. 8. You can also press Source on the projector or remote control to select an input signal to display. For more information, please refer to page 21. If the frequency/ resolution of the input signal exceeds the projector’s operating range, you will see the message “Out of Range” displayed on a blank screen. Utilizing the password function For security purposes and to help prevent unauthorized use, the projector includes an option for setting up password security. The password can be set through the on-screen menu. For details of the on-screen menu operation, please refer to page 23 for information. WARNING: You will be inconvenienced if you activate the password functionality and subsequently forget the password. Write the password you used in this manual, and keep the manual in a safe place for later recall. To set a password: CAUTION: Once a password has been set, the projector cannot be used unless the correct password is entered every time the projector is started. 1. Open the on-screen menu and go to Setting > Password. Select by pressing 3 or 4. LeftRightUp Down
Operation 182. When the function is activated for the first time, a prompt will display on the screen. Use the 5 or 6 buttons to select a number for each digit of the password. Use the 3 or 4 buttons to move between the digits of the password.. 3. When all digits are entered and the password is ready, press Auto to confirm. A confirmation message displays. IMPORTANT: Write your selected password down here in this manual so that it is available to you should you ever forget it. Password: __ __ __ __ Keep this manual in a safe place. i. Press Auto to continue. The set-up is finished when the message “Password setup completed” displays. ii. Press 5 to go back to the previous screen and re-enter four digits. iii. Press 6 to cancel the password set-up and return to the on-screen menu. If you forget the password: You will be asked to enter the four digit password every time you turn on the projector. If you enter the wrong password, the password error message displays. You can retry by turning off the projector (by pressing Power) and start again, or if you did not record the password in this manual, and you absolutely do not remember it, you can use the password recall procedure. To enter the password recall procedure: Press and hold 4 for 5 seconds. The projector will display a coded number on the screen. Seek help from the local BenQ service center to decode the number. You may be required to provide proof of purchase documentation to verify that you are an authorized user of the projector. To change the password: 1. Open the on-screen menu and go to Setting > Change Password. 2. Press 3 or 4. A “Change Password” message displays. 3. Enter the old password. i. If the password is correct, you can go on to enter new password. IMPORTANT: Write your selected password down here in this manual so that it is available to you should you ever forget it. Password: __ __ __ __ Keep this manual in a safe place. ii. If the password is incorrect, a “Password Error” message displays. Press 5 to try again or press 6 to cancel. 4. Check the new password. i. Pressing Auto completes the procedure. ii. Press 5 to try again. iii. Press 6 to cancel the set-up and return to the on-screen menu. Operation 19 Adjusting the image Adjusting the height The projector is equipped with 1 quick-release adjuster foot and 2 rear adjuster feet. These adjusters can be used to change the image height and projection angle. To adjust the projector, 1. Lift the projector up and press the adjuster button to release the adjuster. The adjuster will drop into position. Do not look into the lens while the lamp is on. The strong light from the lamp may cause damage to your eyes. 2. Screw the rear adjuster feet to fine tune the horizontal angle. To retract the foot, press the adjuster button again. If the screen and the projector are not perpendicular to each other, the projected image becomes vertically trapezoidal. To correct this situation, adjust the value of Keystone in the Picture menu, on the projector control panel or on the remote control. Auto-adjusting the image In some cases, you may need to optimize the picture quality. To do this, press Auto on the control panel of the projector or on the remote control. Within 3 seconds, the built-in Intelligent Auto Adjustment function will re-adjust the values of Frequency, Clock and Keystone to provide the best picture quality. The screen will be blank while the auto-adjustment is functioning. Fine-tuning the image size and clarity Refer to the screen size tables on page 13. 2 2 1 LeftRightUp Down 1. Adjust the projected image to the size that you need using the zoom ring. 2. Then sharpen the image by rotating the focus ring.
Operation 20 Correcting keystone Keystoning refers to the situation where the projected image is noticeably wider at either the top or bottom. It occurs when the projector is not perpendicular to the screen. To correct this, you can perform the following steps. 1. Adjust the height of the projector. 2. Press Keystone on the remote control or Auto on the projector. If the image is still distorted, you will need to manually correct it following ONE of these steps. • Press 3 Left/ Right 4 (hot key) on the control panel of the projector to display the status bar labelled Keystone. Press 3 Left to correct keystoning at the top of the image. Press Right 4 to correct keystoning at the bottom of the image. • Press / on the remote control to display the status bar labelled Keystone, then press to correct keystoning at the top of the image or press to correct keystoning at the bottom of the image. • Press Menu key on the projector or the remote control. Go to Picture --> Ke ystone and adjust the values by pressing 3 Left/ Right 4 on the projector or 3 / 4 on the remote control. Operation 21 Switching input signals The projector can be connected to multiple devices at the same time. To sequentially select input sources, press the Source button on the projector control panel or the remote control. The selected source will be displayed at the bottom right of the screen for 3 seconds. Hiding the image In order to draw the audience’s full attention to the presenter during a presentation, you can use the Blank button to hide the screen image. Press the Blank button again to restore the image. A word “BLANK” will display at the bottom right corner of the screen when the image is hidden. Set the duration of blank time in Advance > Blank Time menu. Do not block the projection lens from projecting as this could cause the blocking object to become heated and deformed or even cause a fire. Shutdown 1. Press Power and a confirmation prompt displays. Press Power a second time to turn the projector off. 2. The Power indicator lig ht flashes orange and the lamp shuts down. The fans will continue to run for approximately 90 seconds to cool down the projector lamp. To protect the lamp, the projector will not respond to any commands during the cooling process. Operation 23 Using the menus The projector is equipped with on-screen display (OSD) menus for making various adjustments and settings. The following example describes the adjustment of the keystone. There are 10 different menu languages. Before making adjustments, you may choose a suitable OSD language in Advance > Language menu. (Refer to page 27 for more details.)1. Press Menu to turn the on-screen menu on.3. Adjust keystone values by pressing 3 Left / Right 4 on the projector or 3 / 4 on the remote control. 2. Operation 24 1. Picture menu FUNCTIONDESCRIPTION Preset Mode Preset modes are provided so you can optimize your projector image set-up to suit your program type. PC Signal Input 1.Presentation Mode: Is designed for presentations. The brightness is emphasized in this mode. 2.Vivid Mode: Is perfect for playing games. The color saturation and brightness are well-balanced. 3.Video Mode: Is suitable for cinematic enjoyment displaying images in their natural color. 4.Economic Mode: Use this mode to reduce system noise and reduce power consumption by 20%. The lamp life is also extended with lower light output. YPbPr/ S-Video/ Video Signal Input 1.Gaming Mode: Is suitable for playing video games in a bright living room. 2.Video Mode: With a higher color temperature, it is suitable for enjoying TV movies. 3.Cinema Mode: With a lower color temperature, it is suitable for enjoying cinematic movies. 4.Economic Mode: Use this mode to reduce system noise and reduce power consumption by 20%. The lamp life is also extended with lower light output. KeystoneCorrects any keystoning of the image. Refer to page 19 for more information. Brightness Adjusts the brightness of the image. The higher the value, the brighter the image. And lower the setting, darker the image. Adjust this control so the black areas of the image appear just as black and that detail in the dark areas is visible. Contrast Adjusts the degree of difference between dark and light in the image. The higher the value, the greater the contrast. Color Increases or decreases the color intensity of the image. This function is not available when a PC input is selected. Tint Adjusts the color tones of the image. The higher the value, the more reddish the image becomes. The lower the value, the more greenish the image becomes. This function is available only when a PC input selected. V Position Adjusts the vertical position of the projected image. This function is available only when a PC input is selected. Phase This function allows you to adjust the clock phase to reduce image distortion. This function is available only when a PC input is selected. H SizeAdjusts the horizontal width of the image. Operation 26 3. Setting menu FUNCTIONDESCRIPTION Mute Vo l u m e Adjusts the volume level. OSD TimeSets the length of time the OSD will remain active after your last button press. The range is from 5 to 60 seconds. ResetReturns all settings to the factory preset values. Color Temp Adjusts the color temperature*. To make images appearing bluish white, press 4 to raise the color temperature. On the contrary, to make images appearing reddish white, press 3 to lower the color temperature. *About color temperatures: There are many different shades that are considered to be “white” for various purposes. One of the common methods of representing white color is known as the “color temperature”. A white color with a low color temperature appears to be reddish white. A white color with a high color temperature appears to have more blue in it. Password This is a selectable function. Selecting limits use of the projector to only those who know the correct password. When the function is activated for the first time, you have to set a password for it. For more information, refer to page 17. Once the password is set and this function is selected, the projector is password-protected. Users who do not know the correct password can not use the projector.
