Messages Learn how to send and receive dierent messages using the default messaging app on your phone. Types of Messages The messaging app provides the following message types: • Text Messages (SMS) • Multimedia Messages (MMS) The Short Message Service (SMS) lets you send and receive text messages to and from other mobile phones or email addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your service provider’s message service. The Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) lets you send and receive multimedia messages (such as picture, video, and audio messages) to and from other mobile phones or email addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your service provider’s multimedia message service. Messaging icons are displayed at the top of the screen and indicate when messages are received and their type. Create and Send Messages This section describes how to create a send a message using Messages. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Mes sages > Compose. 2. Tap the Enter recipients eld to manually ent er a recipient or tap Add Recipient to select a recipient from your Contacts or Groups. • If manually entering recipients, enter additional recipients by separating each entry with a semicolon (;) . • If adding a recipient from your Contacts, tap the contact to place a check mark, and then tap DONE. The contact will be placed in the recipients eld. • For the Group option, if the number of recipients is less than ten, all members in the group can be added by placing a check mark by the contacts and tapping DONE. 3. Tap the Enter message eld to enter a message. • Tap Attach to add images, audio, and more to your message. • Tap Add emoticons to choose an available emoticon from the list and add it to your message (at the cursor location) . 4. Revie w your message and tap SEND. Note: If you e xit a message before you send it, the message is automatically saved as a draft. 65 Messages Applications
View New Messages When you receive a new message, a new message icon appears on the Status bar. To view the messa ge: ► Open the Notication panel and select the message. For more information, see Notication Panel . – or – From a Home screen, tap Apps > Messages , and then tap the new message to view it. • To play a multimedia message (audio or video) , tap Play. • To scroll through the list of messages, swipe up or down the page. Delete Messages To delete messages, follow these steps. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Messages . 2. Tap MORE > Dele te . 3. Tap each message you want to delete or tap the check box at the top to select all. 4. Tap DELETE. Message Search You can search through your messages by using the Message Search feature. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Messages . 2. Tap SEARCH. 3 . Enter a word or phrase to search for, and then tap Search on the keyboard. Messages Settings Congure the settings for text messages, multimedia messages, push messages, and so on. ► From a Home screen, tap Apps > Messages > MORE > Settings . Emergency Alerts This device is designed to receive wireless emergency alerts from the Commercial Mobile Alerting System (CMAS) which may also be known as the Personal Localized Alerting Network (PLAN) . For more information, please contact your wireless provider. Emergency alerts allows customers to receive geographically-targeted messages. Alert messages are provided by the US Department of Homeland Security and will alert customers of imminent threats to their safety within their area. There is no charge for receiving an Emergency alert message. There are three types of Emergency alerts: • Alerts issued by the President • Alerts involving imminent threats to safety of life (Extreme and Severe) • AMBER alerts (missing child alert) Users may choose not to receive Imminent threats (Extreme and Severe) and AMBER alerts. Alerts issued by the President cannot be disabled. To disable Imminent threats and AMBER alerts, follow the instructions below: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Messages . 2. Tap MORE > Se ttings > Emergency alert settings. 3. Tap Emergency alerts. 4. All alerts are enabled by default. Tap an alert option to disable it. • You cannot disable Presidential alerts. 66 Messages Applications
Music Player Listen to your favorite songs with the Music player. Navigate through your music library, play songs, and create customized playlists. Playback position Favorite Time elapsed Playback controls Song queue Options Sound quality and eects Volume Song length • Favorite : Tap to tag this song as a favorite. • Options: Tap to view more options. • Playback controls: Tap the icons to change shue or repeat modes, fast-forward or rewind, or play or pause the current song. • Playback position: Drag to skip to another part of the current song. • Song length: View the length of the song. • Song queue: Tap to view the current playlist being played. • Sound quality and eects: Tap for options to adjust sound eects. • Time elapsed: View the time elapsed for the current song. • Volume: Tap to adjust the volume. 67 Music Player Applications
Listen to Music 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Music. 2. Tap the drop-down menu at the top left of the screen to view your music les. 3. Scroll through the list of songs and tap a song to begin playback. 4. While playing music, use these controls: • Tap Pause to pause playback. To start playback again, tap Play. • Tap Rewind to move to the previous song. Touch and hold Rewind to rewind through the song. Tap Fast-forward to move to the next song. Touch and hold Fast-forward to move forward through the song. • Tap the repeat button to control playback. Choose Repeat o to play all songs once. Choose Repeat all to repeat all songs. Choose Repeat 1 to repeat the current song. • Tap the shue button to control the order songs are played. Choose Shue o to play songs in the order they appear in the list. Choose Shue on to play songs in random order. • Tap Favorite to mark a song as a favorite. Whenever a song is a favorite, the star is bright gold. Favorite songs are included in the Favorites playlist. • Tap Sound eects to access sound quality and eects settings. For more information, see Sound Quality and Eects . • Tap Volume to set the volume. You can also set volume by pressing the Volume key on the side of the phone. Note : W hen you close the Music player, playback will continue in the background, allowing you to listen to music while using other features of your phone. When music is playing in the background, you can access playback controls on the Notication panel. 68 Music Player Applications
My Files Access les stored on your device, including images, videos, songs, and sound clips. To view les in My Files: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Samsung folder > My Files. 2. Tap a c ategory to view the relevant les or folders. 3. Tap a le or folder to open it. Manage Files Files stored in the device are organized into the following groups: • Recent les: View recently accessed les. • Category : Files are grouped into the following categories: Images: View image les. - Videos: View video les. - Audio: View audio les. - Documents: View document les. - Download history: View all apps and les that have been downloaded to the device. - • Local storage: View folders and les in their storage locations. Device storage: View folders and les loc a ted on the device. - • Cloud storage: Contains shortcuts to FTP servers or other cloud storage locations that you have added. Google Drive: Sign in to view folders and les loc a ted in your Google Drive account. - My Files Options ► From a Home screen, tap Apps > Samsung folder > My Files. The following options are available: • SEARCH: Search for a le or folder. • MORE: Tap for the following option: - Show/Conceal hidden les: Show or conceal hidden les. • STORAGE USAGE: Tap to view memory information for your device. Note : If a le has been opened, the Recent les category appears, and other options become available under MORE. Category Options 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Samsung folder > My Files. 2. Aft er tapping on a category, the following options are available: • HOME: Return to the main My Files screen. • SEARCH: Search for a le in the selected category. • MORE: Tap for the following options: - Edit: Select les or folders. - Share: Select les to share. - Create folder: Create a folder to categorize les. - Add shortcut: Add a shortcut to the main My Files screen. - View as: Change the appearance of the les or folders. - Sort by: Change the sort order of the les. - Show/Conceal hidden les: Show or conceal hidden les. 69 My Files Applications
Options for Selected Files and Folders 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Samsung folder > My Files. 2. Tap MORE > Edit. 3. Tap a le or folder to select it, and then select one of these functions: • DELETE: Delete les or folders. • MORE: Select one of the following options: - Move : Move les or folders to another folder. - Copy : Copy les or folders to another folder. - Rename: Rename a le or folder. This option only appears when a single le or folder is selected. - Add shortcut on Home screen: Add a shortcut the Home screen. - Compress: Create a zip folder containing the selected les. This option only appears in Local Storage categories. A selected zip folder has the additional options of Extract and Extract to current folder. - Details: View details of the selected le(s) or folder(s) . 70 My Files Applications
S Health Use S Health to plan, track, and manage your health goals and activities, including exercise, sleep, and meals. Note : This device and related software are not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions, or in the cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease. 1. From Home, tap Apps > S Health. 2. Read and ac cept the terms and conditions. 3. Set up your health prole and goals. Before You Start Exercising This app can be used to monitor your exercise. While moderate physical activity, such as brisk walking, is safe for most people, health experts suggest that you talk with your doctor before you start an exercise program, particularly if you have any of the following conditions: • Heart disease; • Asthma or lung disease; • Diabetes, or liver or kidney disease; • Arthritis. You should also check with your doctor if you have symptoms suggestive of heart, lung, or other serious disease, such as: • Pain or discomfort in your chest, neck, jaw, or arms during physical activity; • Dizziness or loss of consciousness; • Shortness of breath with mild exertion or at rest, or when lying down or going to bed; • Ankle swelling, especially at night; • A heart murmur or a rapid or pronounced heartbeat; • Muscle pain when walking upstairs or up a hill that goes away when you rest. Finally, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends that you see your doctor before engaging in vigorous exercise if two or more of the following apply: • You are a man older than age 45 or a woman older than age 55; • You have a family history of heart disease before age 55; • You smoke or quit smoking in the past six months; • You have not exercised for three months or more; • You are overweight or obese; • You have high blood pressure or high cholesterol; • You have impaired glucose tolerance, also called prediabetes. When in Doubt — Check It Out If you are unsure of your health status, have several health problems, or are pregnant, you should speak with your doctor before starting a new exercise program. S Note The S Note app helps you create, edit, and manage all the notes on your device. Sign in to your Samsung account to access your notes in S Note from any device. With S Note, create content by typing, writing, drawing, and even recording voice, video, or taking pictures. Templates are provided to make content creation easy and help keep things organized. Create a Note To create a note with S Note: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > S Note. 2. Tap the Create new note. 3. Use the S Pen to cre ate content. • Tap MORE > Background settings to add templates, change the background color, and add images. 4. Tap SAVE . Note Tools When creating or editing a note in S Note, some helpful modes and tools are provided. Note: To use your nger to write and draw on S Notes, tap MORE > Settings > S Pen only mode to disable this restriction. • Pen : Write or draw freehand with the S Pen. Tap once to change the Pen settings. • Ta p Favorite pens to save pen settings at the bottom of the screen. • Eraser: Erase content from the note. Tap once to select the eraser. Tap again to change the Eraser settings. • Te x t : Type text using the keyboard. Tap once to select Text mode. • Undo: Undo the last action. • Redo: Redo the last action. • SAVE : Name and save the note. • MORE: View more options for the note. Edit a Note To edit an S Note: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > S Note. 2. Tap a note to v iew it. 3. Tap EDIT to edit the note. 4. When nished, tap SAVE to save edits. Note : Action memos behave dierently from other notes. When you tap on an Action memo to view it, you can edit the memo immediately. 72 S Note Applications
View Action Memos You can view S Notes and Action memos together, or you can narrow your view to Action memos. To view Action memos in S Note: 1. Tap the drop-down menu and tap Action memos. • Tap SEARCH to search for keywords and phrases in action memos. 2. Tap MORE for additional options: • Share: Select action memos to share. • Edit: Select memos to delete, export, or save as an S Note. • Filter by color: Sort memos according to their background color. • Settings : Customize S Note settings. • Help: View help topics on how to use S Note. 73 S Note Applications
S Voice Speak commands to perform operations on your device, and to speak criteria for searches and other operations. Access S Voice 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > S Voice. Speak a command. 2. 3. T ap Microphone if the device does not hear you, or to give it another command. Tip: Tap Help for example commands and to view a tutorial. S Voice Settings These settings allow you to modify settings associated with using the S Voice app. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > S Voice. 2. Tap Settings . 3.
