12Phone Calls Calling from Your Call History 1 From the home screen, tap > Call log . 2 Tap next to the number you want to call . Calling from a Text Message If a text message contains a phone number that you want to call, you can make the call while viewing the text message . 1 From the home screen, tap . 2 Tap the conversation and then the message that contains the phone number you need . 3 Tap the number . 4 Tap Call . How to Receive Calls Answering a Call Drag to the center of the screen to answer the call . Rejecting a Call Drag to the center of the screen to reject the call . Drag to the center of the screen to send a text message to the caller . Choose the default message or send a custom one . 13Phone Calls Phone Calls How to Make Calls There are many ways to make a call with your phone, and they’re all easy to do . Calling from the Dialer 1 From the home screen, tap . 2 Enter the phone number with the on-screen keypad . Tap to delete wrong digits . 3 Tap to place the call . Tip: To make international calls, tap and hold to enter the “+” . Calling from Your Contacts 1 From the home screen, tap Contacts . 2 Swipe your finger to scroll the contacts list and tap next to the contact you want to call . Tips: • You can search for a contact by tapping and entering the contact name . • You can also access your contacts by tapping > Contacts .
Muting a Call During a call, you can mute your microphone so that the person you are speaking to cannot hear you, but you can still hear them . Tap Mute to turn your microphone off . To turn your microphone back on, tap Mute again . Putting a Call on Hold During a call, you can put it on hold by tapping Hold . Tip: If you accept an incoming call while you’re on another call, the first call automatically goes on hold . Tap Swap to switch between the two callers . Turning the Speakerphone On/Off Tap Speaker during a call to turn the speakerphone on . Tap Speaker again to turn off the speakerphone . Adding a Call During a call, tap Add call and dial a number . When you call another number, the first call automatically goes on hold . Swapping Calls To switch between callers, tap Swap . Merging Calls To merge two calls and create a conference call, tap Merge calls . Note: The maximum number of callers on a call varies by carrier . Ending a Call Ta p to finish a call . 14Phone Calls Adjusting Your Call Settings You can open the Call Settings menu by tapping > > Settings . Fixed Dialing NumbersRestrict outgoing calls to a fixed set of numbers . To do this you must know your SIM’s PIN2 code . Not all carriers support this functionality . Quick responsesEdit Quick response to rejected callers . VoicemailSelect a voicemail service provider (your carrier is the default), or edit the voicemail number if necessary . TTY mode Choose a TTY mode after connecting the TTY device to the phone’s headset port . A TTY device can allow people who have hearing or speech disabilities to communicate by telephone . Hearing aids Turn on/off hearing aid compatibility . When you turn on the hearing aid compatibility and use a hearing aid with a Telecoil to answer the phone, it will help you hear more clearly during the phone call . DTMF tonesSet the length of dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) signal tones: Normal or Long . Speed dialSet contacts as speed dials for keys 2-9 . 15Phone Calls
Call Barring SettingsForbid certain types of calls . Call forwarding Forward your incoming calls to a different number . You can choose when to forward: Always forward, Forward when busy, Forward when unanswered, or Forward when unreachable . Additional settings Caller ID: Choose whether people you call can see your number . Call waiting: See new incoming calls while you’re on another call . Contacts You can add contacts on your phone and synchronize them with the contacts in your Google account or other accounts that support contact syncing . To see your contacts, tap Contacts on the home screen . From there, you can tap the tabs on the top to quickly switch to Phone, Call log, or Favorites . Importing and Exporting Contacts You can import or export contacts from/to your SIM card, phone storage, or microSD card . This is especially useful when you need to transfer contacts between different devices . Importing Contacts from the SIM Card or Exporting to the Card 1 From the Contacts screen, press > Import/export . 2 Choose to import or export contacts . If you have more than one account set up on your phone, you will need to select the account to which you’d like to import contacts . If not, your phone will automatically display the contacts . 3 Tap the contacts you want to import or export . Adding a Contact to Favorites 1 From the Contacts screen, tap the contact you want to add to Favorites . 2 Tap next to the contact’s name . Searching for a Contact 1 Tap at the bottom of the Contacts screen . 2 Enter the contact name you want to search for . Matching contacts will be listed . Creating a New Group 1 From the Contacts screen, tap . 2 Tap . 3 Enter the group name and tap Done . 4 Tap and select the contacts you wish to be the group members . 5 Tap . To send messages to the group members, you can tap a group and then press > Send group message . 19Contacts Importing Contacts from Phone Storage/microSD Card or Exporting to Phone Storage/Card 1 From the Contacts screen, press > Import/export . 2 Choose to import or export contacts . If you have more than one account set up on your phone, you will need to select the account to which you’d like to import contacts . Note: Files will be saved to/pulled from the microSD card when one is inserted in the phone . • For import, you should have vCard files saved on the Phone/microSD card . If there’s more than one vCard file, choose to import one, multiple, or all vCard files . Tap the vCard file and tap OK . • For export, select a vCard type and tap OK to create the file on the Phone/ microSD card . Creating a Contact 1 From the Contacts screen, tap to add a new contact . 2 Tap AT&T Address Book to choose where to save the contact . 3 Enter the contact name, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, and other information . 4 Tap Done to save the contact . 18Contacts
21Entering Text Entering Text When you tap a field that needs text or numbers, a keyboard automatically appears on the screen . Open the Notifications panel and tap Choose input method to change input method . Android Keyboard The Android keyboard provides a layout similar to a desktop computer keyboard . Turn the phone sideways and the keyboard will change from portrait to landscape . To use the landscape keyboard, from the home screen, press > System settings > Accessibility > Auto-rotate screen . Note: The landscape keyboard is not supported in all applications . • Tap the alphabetic keys to enter letters . Tap and hold the keys to enter associated accented letters or numbers . For example, to enter È, tap and hold and the available accented letters and number 3 appear . Then slide your finger to choose È . • Tap to use uppercase or lowercase letters . This key also changes to indicate the current case you are using: for lowercase, for uppercase, and when locked in uppercase . Tap and hold to lock the keyboard in uppercase . • Tap to delete any text you have entered . • Tap to select numbers and symbols . You can then tap to access more . Also, frequently used symbols are displayed on top of the keyboard . Swipe left or right to find the one you need and tap to enter . • Tap and hold and then swipe to choose emoticons . • Tap to use Google’s networked voice input . • Tap and hold to change the input language or the Android keyboard settings . TouchPal Keyboard The TouchPal keyboard offers three layouts: Full QWERTY, 12-Key PhonePad, and CooTek T+ . To Switch the Keyboard Layout 1 From the home screen, press > System settings > Language & input > next to TouchPal Keyboard > Keyboard layout . 2 Check the box next to Swipe layout . 3 On a screen with a TouchPal Keyboard, tap , uncheck the Curve check box, and tap Close . 4 Swipe left or right on the TouchPal keyboard to switch between the Full QWERTY, 12-Key PhonePad, or CooTek T+ keyboards . 20Entering Text
12-Key PhonePad Tap a key repeatedly until the desired letter or symbol appears . If word prediction is enabled ( ), just tap the keys once and choose the right word . CooTek T+ Tap to enter the left letter on the key; Double-tap to enter the desired letter/symbol on the key . Tap to go back to entering letters . • Tap to start a new line . • Tap or tap and hold to delete text before the cursor . • Tap to access the quick settings of TouchPal keyboard . • Tap to change the TouchPal keyboard settings . • Tap to open text editing options . You can select, cut, copy, paste, and delete text, or move the cursor . • Tap to use voice input . • Tap to hide the on-screen keyboard . Tap the Type message field again to show the keyboard .
To Enable and Use TouchPal Curve 1 On the TouchPal keyboard screen, tap , check the box next to Curve, and tap Close . 2 Move your finger from letter to letter on the keyboard to trace a word without lifting the finger until you reach the end of the word . Note: TouchPal Curve is only available in the Full QWERTY layout . Tips: • To enter a single letter, tap it . • Lift your finger at the end of the word . A space is added automatically when you begin to trace the next word . Choosing Touch Input Settings Choose the touch input settings by pressing > System settings > Language & input from the home screen . In the Keyboard & Input Methods section, you can set the default input method and choose the settings for input methods . Messaging Your SMS (text message) and MMS (multimedia message) are combined into one menu under . Message Box Instead of an inbox and outbox your phone organizes all messages you sent and received into one box, where messages exchanged with the same number are grouped into one message thread on the Messaging screen . You can tap a thread to see the conversation you have had with someone . Message threads are sorted in chronological order with the latest one on top . Sending a Message 1 From the home screen, tap . 2 Tap . 3 Enter the recipient’s number or name in the To field . As you type, matching contacts will appear . Tap a suggested contact to add as a recipient or tap to access your contacts or call logs . 4 Tap the Type message field and enter your message . • Press to insert a smiley, contact, signature, or Quick Text . • If you are sending an MMS, tap to attach a file to the message . 5 Tap Send to send your message . Note: Add an attachment to a text message and it will be converted into an MMS automatically . Changing Message Settings The phone’s message settings are pre-configured for you to use immediately . To change them, press > Settings from the Messaging screen . Storage settings: • Delete old messages: Delete old messages as limits are reached . • Text message limit: Set the maximum number of text messages allowed in a single thread . • Multimedia message limit: Set the maximum number of multimedia messages allowed in a single thread . Text (SMS) message settings: • Manage SIM card messages: Manage the messages stored on your SIM card . • Service Center: Enables you to view and edit the service center number . Multimedia (MMS) message settings: • Auto-retrieve: Automatically download multimedia messages . • MMS creation mode: Choose to create an MMS message with or without restriction, or receive a warning when adding a restricted attachment to an MMS message . Display settings: • Dialog patterns: Select a dialog pattern . Notification settings: • Notifications: Show message notifications in the status bar . • Select ringtone: Choose a ringtone for your incoming messages . • Vibrate: Make your phone vibrate when a new message arrives . 26Messaging Signature settings: • Add signature: Add the signature to all outgoing messages . • Edit signature: Edit your signature, which can be added automatically to outgoing messages . WAP push switch settings: • Enable WAP push receiving: Allow your phone to receive WAP push . Emergency alert settings: • Receive emergency alerts: Choose the types of alerts you’d like to receive . • Notification for unread alerts: Set a notification reminder for every 10 minutes . • Alerts notification preview: Preview settings for alert tones and vibration cadence . 27Messaging
Email With the Email application, you can access your email from various providers, including Yahoo!® and Gmail . Creating an Email Account 1 From the home screen, tap . 2 Enter your email address and password . 3 Tap Next to let the phone retrieve the network parameters automatically . Note: You can also enter these details manually by tapping Manual setup or when automatic setup fails . 4 Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the setup . Your phone will display your email inbox and start to download email messages . Tip: To add more email accounts, open Email to get the Inbox screen and press > Settings > Add Account . Receiving Email When you are in an email account, tap to download recent emails . You can adjust how often your account downloads new email by pressing > Settings > name of the account > Inbox check frequency . Tap an option to select it . Composing and Sending an Email After creating an email account, you can compose and send email messages . 1 From your inbox, tap . 2 Tap the To field and enter the recipient’s address or tap to select a contact or group .When you enter the address, matching contacts on the phone will be displayed . Separate each recipient with a comma . Tip: You can also press > Add Cc/Bcc to add more recipients . 28Email 3 Enter the subject and the content of your email . 4 Press > Attach file to add files to the email . 5 Tap Send to send the message . Replying to or Forwarding an Email 1 From your inbox, open the email you want to reply to or forward . 2 Tap or to reply to or forward the email . You can also tap to reply to all recipients of the email . 3 Enter the contents/recipients of your email . 4 Tap Send . Deleting an Email Account 1 From your inbox, press > Settings . 2 Tap the account you want to delete and then tap Remove account . 3 Tap OK to confirm . All email messages in the account will be deleted . Email Settings General settings apply to all email accounts you add . 1 From your inbox, press > Settings > General . 2 Make the changes you want and press when you’re finished . 29Email
Connecting to the Internet Your phone’s impressive networking capabilities allow you to access the Internet or your corporate network with ease . You can use default connection settings to connect to the web via your mobile network (GPRS/EDGE/3G) or Wi-Fi . The GPRS/EDGE/3G connection can be enabled/disabled manually . From the home screen, press > System settings > Mobile networks and check or uncheck the Data enabled check box . Adding a New GPRS/EDGE/3G Connection To get connected via GPRS/EDGE/3G, you need a data plan with your service provider . If the GPRS/EDGE/3G settings are not pre-configured on your phone, please contact your provider to get the necessary information . 1 From the home screen, press > System settings > Mobile networks > Access Point Names . 2 Press > New APN . 3 Tap each item to enter the information you receive from your service provider . 4 Tap Save to complete . Tip: To set the APN to default settings, press > Reset to default . Turning on Wi-Fi Wi-Fi provides wireless Internet access over distances of up to 300 feet (90 meters) . Open the Notifications panel and tap Wi-Fi . 30Connecting to the Internet31Connecting to the Internet Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network 1 From the home screen, press > System settings > Wi-Fi . The Wi-Fi network points, or “hotspots,” that your phone has detected are displayed with their names and security settings . 2 Tap a network to connect to it . If security features are implemented, you’ll need to enter a password and then tap Connect . 3 To disconnect from a network, tap the network name and then tap Forget . Checking the Wi-Fi Network Status You can check the Wi-Fi network by looking at the icon in the status bar . Or, tap the network the phone is currently connected to on the Wi-Fi screen . You can then check the network status from the pop-up window .
