40 - Xserve Take Apart Locking Mechanism Rod, Xserve Procedure 1. Pull back the latch to release the ribbed end of the locking mechanism rod. 2. Release the two clips on the sides of the front panel board, and pull the board back slightly from the front of the server. 3. Tilt up the ribbed end of the locking mechanism rod and remove the rod from the server.

Xserve Take Apart - 43 Locking Mechanism Rod, Xserve (Slot Load) and Xserve (Cluster Node) Procedure 1. Pull back the latch to release the gear end of the locking mechanism rod. 2. Tilt up the gear end of the rod and remove the rod from the server. 3. If you are replacing the plastic gear on the end of the rod, slide the gear off the rod. Replacement Procedure 1. To install the gear, slide it onto the notched end of the locking rod, aligning the narrow end of the gear with the end of the rod. Note: Make sure the rib inside the gear engages with the notch in the rod.

Note: Make sure the small circle on the front of the rod aligns with the ÒunlockedÓ symbol on the front bezel. 3. 46 - Xserve Take Apart Front Bezel, Xserve (Slot Load) and Xserve (Cluster Node) Procedure 1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws that attach the two front bezel brackets to the server, and remove the brackets. 2. Remove the screw that attaches the top of the bezel to the server. 3. Gently pull the front bezel forward and remove it from the server. Important: When removing or replacing the bezel, be careful not to put pressure on the top of the bezel over the optical drive slot.

Transfer the system identiÞer and power buttons from the original front bezel to the replacement bezel. 2. Remove the bottom row of light pipes from the light pipe assembly and insert them into the bottom row of light pipe holes in the replacement bezel. 3. Replace the front bezel on the server, matching ports/projections with openings. 4. Replace the screw that secures the top of the bezel to the server. 5. Replace the two bezel brackets and their mounting screws.
