140 Power Mac G5 Take Apart Antenna Board and Cables: Power Mac G5 (June 2004/ Early 2005) Note: Some Power Mac G5 (June 2004 Dual 1.8 GHz) computers route the antenna board cables on top of the logic board. Refer to the “Antenna Board and Cables: Power Mac G5” procedure earlier in this chapter. Tools The only tools required for this procedure are a long-handled and a short-handled Phillips screwdriver. Preliminary Steps Before you begin, open the computer, lay it on its side with the access side facing up, and remove the following: Front inlet fan assembly Heatsink cover(s) Processor(s) for Power Mac G5 without LCS Heatsink or Processor for Power Mac G5 with LCS Heatsink All AGP and PCI cards Rear exhaust fan assembly PCI card guide Speaker/fan assembly Front panel board cable Memory DIMM if it is in slot next to the power supply cable Power supply for Power Mac G5 without LCS Heatsink or Power supply for Power Mac G5 with LCS Heatsink Logic Board • • • • • • • • • • • • •
Power Mac G5 Take Apart 141 Part Location Procedure Disconnect the antenna cables from the Bluetooth card and the AirPort Extreme card (if installed). Note: If the Bluetooth card and the AirPort Extreme card are not installed, release the cables from the clip on the PCI divider (shown below). 1.

Replacement Note: If you replace the antenna board, its cables (B and C below) route underneath the logic board and connect to the Bluetooth card and AirPort Extreme Card on the top side of the logic board. Power Mac G5 Take Apart 145 Remove the modem filter board cable, Bluetooth cable, and AirPort cable from the cable guides on the PCI divider. Replacement Note: Be careful when rerouting the two antenna cables that they route under the black connector for the front inlet fan. Make sure that the cables are in place behind all cable guides. Turn the logic board over so that bottom of the board faces up. Remove the three screws that secure the PCI divider, and remove the divider from the logic board. 3. 4.
