ROOF-MOUNT SOLAR POWER VENTILATOR 
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 
NOTE:  Air intake openings must be installed for proper 
exhaust operation.  Best results will be obtained if these 
openings are located around the eaves.  Rectangular soffit 
vents or continuous soffit vents are suggested.

protective cover for solar panel until 
installation is complete. 
 
1.  SELECT VENTILATOR LOCATION 
 
Select a location close to the ridgeline 
on the backside of the house to 
maximize sun exposure.  The ventilator 
should be installed near the center of 
the roof for optimum airflow.  Refer to 
Illustration – 1.  If installing multiple 
fans, space them evenly across the 
roof.  From the roof, measure the 
distance to the ridgeline and to one end 
of the roof.  Note these dimensions for 
use in Step 2. 
 
 
2.  DETERMINE EXACT VENTILATOR 
POSITION 
 
Using the dimensions obtained on the 
roof in Step 1, locate the same position 
inside the attic.  Select the closest 
centered location between two rafters to 
establish the center of the roof-mount 
solar powered attic ventilator.  From the 
attic, drill a guide hole through the roof 
at the location centered between rafters.  
Refer to Illustration – 2.  Place an object 
through the hole for quick identification 
from the roof.

1.  SELECCIONE EL LUGAR DEL 
VENTILADOR 
 
Seleccione un lugar cerca del caballete en 
la parte trasera de la casa para maximizar 
la exposición solar.  El ventilador debe 
instalarse cerca del centro del techo para 
lograr un flujo de aire óptimo.  Vea la 
ilustración – 1.  Si va a instalar varios 
ventiladores, distribúyalos de manera 
uniforme a lo ancho del techo.  Desde el 
techo, mida la distancia hasta la cumbrera 
y hasta un extremo del techo.  Anote estas 
dimensiones para usarlas en el Paso 2. 
 
2.  DETERMINE LA POSICIÓN EXACTA 
DEL VENTILADOR 
 
Usando las dimensiones obtenidas en el 
techo en el Paso 1, ubique la misma 
posición dentro del ático.  Seleccione el 
lugar más cerca del centro entre dos vigas 
para establecer el centro del ventilador de 
ático a energía solar de montaje en el 
techo.  Desde el ático, taladre un orificio 
de guía a través del techo en el lugar 
centrado entre dos vigas.  Vea la 
ilustración – 2.  Pase algún objeto por el 
orificio para poder ubicarlo fácilmente

3.  MARK AND CUT HOLE IN ROOF 
 
From the roof, draw a 14-1/2” diameter 
circle centered on the guide hole 
created in Step 2 using the template on 
the carton.  Cut and remove all roof 
shingles (and deck) inside the 14-1/2” 
diameter circle using a jig or sabre saw.  
Refer to Illustration – 3.  NOTE:  Do not 
cut through any rafters.  Cutting a rafter 
may jeopardize the structural integrity of 
the roof. 
 
 
4.  TRIM ROOF COVERING 
MATERIALS 
 
Using a utility knife, cut an extra 1” off 
the top half of the hole (shingles only) to 
allow room for placing and positioning 
the flange.  Refer to Illustration – 4. 
 
 
5.  CONNECT FAN MOTOR 
 
WARNING:  Depending on the panel’s 
sun exposure, it may be likely that the 
fan will start spinning once the 
connections are made.  To avoid 
possible harm, it is recommended that 
the solar panel’s protective covering be 
left in place until the installation is 
complete. 
 
Using the male and female quick 
connect terminations from the panel and 
the motor, connect the appropriate 
leads as follows: 
•  Connect the ribbed wire “+” 
from the panel to the white wire 
“+” from the motor. 
•  Connect the smooth wire “-” 
from the panel to the black wire 
“-” from the motor. 
Refer to Illustration – 5. 
 
 
6.  MOUNT THE VENTILATOR TO 
THE ROOF 
 
Make sure the top edge of the base 
flange parallels the ridgeline of the roof.  
The embossed arrow, with the adjacent 
embossed word “UP”, should be 
pointing toward the ridgeline.  Slip the 
upper half of the flange under the 
shingles as shown in Illustration – 6.  
Center the ventilator over the hole.  
Next, attach the flange securely to the 
roof using roofing nails around the 
perimeter of the unit. 3.  MARQUE Y CORTE UN ORIFICIO EN

Desde el techo, trace un círculo de 14-1/2 
pulg. de diámetro centrado en el orificio de 
guía creado en el Paso 2 usando la

4.  RECORTE LOS MATERIALES DE

5.  CONECTE EL MOTOR DEL 
VENTILADOR 
 
ADVERTENCIA:  Según la exposición 
solar que tenga el panel, es posible que el 
ventilador comience a girar una vez 
hechas las conexiones.  Para evitar un 
posible daño, se recomienda dejar el 
protector del panel solar en su lugar hasta 
que finalice la instalación. 
 
Usando las terminaciones de conexión 
rápida macho y hembra del panel y del 
motor, conecte los cables de la siguiente 
manera: 
• Conecte el cable estriado “+” del 
panel al cable blanco “+” del 
motor. 
• Conecte el cable liso “-” del panel 
al cable negro “-” del motor.

6.  INSTALE EN VENTILADOR EN EL 
TECHO 
 
Asegúrese de que el borde superior de la 
pestaña de la base esté paralelo a la 
cumbrera del techo.  La flecha en relieve, 
con la inscripción “UP”, debe estar 
apuntando hacia la cumbrera del techo.  
Deslice la mitad superior de la pestaña 
debajo de las tejas como se muestra en la 
ilustración – 6.  Centre el ventilador sobre 
el orificio.  A continuación, fije la pestaña 
firmemente al techo usando clavos para

NOTE:  Nails on the top half of the flange should be 
positioned underneath the top layers of shingles. 
 
NOTE:  Nails used to secure the unit to the roof should be of 
sufficient length to fully penetrate the underside of the decking 
material. 
 
A non-hardening caulk or roofing cement should be used as a 
seal between the flange and shingles and also to seal the 
exposed nail heads. 
 
 
7.  ADJUST THE SOLAR PANEL 
 
Tilt and/or rotate the solar panel in the 
direction that maximizes the sun 
exposure as shown in Illustration – 7.  
The optimum tilt angle (toward the 
South) can be calculated by using the 
site latitude plus 20 degrees.  The 
resultant angle should be used to 
position the panel from the horizontal 
position (panel facing directly vertical) 
toward the South.  NOTE:  The resultant 
angle may include the roof pitch 
depending on the orientation of the 
structure. 
 
To tilt the solar panel, loosen the two (2) 
wing nuts that connect the arms of the bracket assembly to 
the frame of the solar panel.  Lift the panel up to the 
appropriate tilt angle, then tighten the two (2) wing nuts to 
secure the solar panel in place. 
 
To rotate the solar panel, loosen the three (3) wing nuts that 
secure the solar panel and bracket assembly to the top of the 
dome (located beneath the solar panel).  Rotate the solar 
panel and bracket assembly to the optimal orientation, then 
tighten the three (3) wing nuts to secure the bracket in place. 
 
NOTE:  Optimal exposure may require that the panel and 
tilting bracket be removed from the dome and positioned at a 
different location on the structure. 
 
NOTE:  If additional wire length is needed to position the solar 
panel in its optimum location use the following:  UL Listed SPT-
W, 18/C Black with extruded white stripe, UV resistant, 105ºC 
(221ºF). 
 
 
8.  REMOVE SOLAR PANEL PROTECTIVE COVER 
 
Carefully remove the protective cover from the solar panel to 
cool the attic with the new solar powered attic ventilator. 
NOTA:  Los clavos en la mitad superior de la pestaña deben

NOTA:  Los clavos usados para fijar la unidad al techo deben ser lo 
suficientemente largos como para penetrar completamente la parte

7. AJUSTE EL PANEL SOLAR 
 
Incline o rote el panel solar en la dirección 
que maximice la exposición solar, como lo 
indica la ilustración – 7.  El ángulo de 
inclinación óptimo (hacia el sur) se puede 
calcular mediante el uso de la latitud del 
lugar más 20 grados.  El ángulo resultante 
se debe usar para colocar el panel de la 
posición horizontal (el panel en dirección 
vertical directa) hacia el sur.  NOTA:  Es 
posible que el ángulo resultante incluya la 
pendiente del techo, según la orientación 
de la estructura. 
 
Para inclinar el panel solar, afloje las dos 
(2) tuercas mariposa que unen los brazos 
del conjunto de soporte a la estructura del 
panel solar.  Incline el panel hacia arriba 
hasta colocarlo en el ángulo de inclinación adecuado, luego ajuste 
las dos (2) tuercas mariposa para sujetar el panel solar en el lugar. 
 
Para rotar el panel solar, afloje las tres (3) tuercas mariposa que 
sujetan el panel solar y el conjunto de soporte a la parte superior 
de la cúpula (ubicada debajo del panel solar).  Rote el panel solar y 
el conjunto de soporte hacia la orientación óptima, luego ajuste las 
tres (3) tuercas mariposa para sujetar el soporte en el lugar. 
 
NOTA:  Para lograr la exposición óptima, es posible que deba 
quitar el panel y el soporte de inclinación de la cúpula y colocarlos 
en otro lugar de la estructura. 
 
NOTA:  Si necesita más largo de cable para colocar el panel solar 
en el lugar óptimo, use lo siguiente:  cable negro UL SPT-W, 18/C 
con raya blanca en resalto, resistente a los rayos UV, 105 °C (221 
°F).
 
 
 
8. QUITE EL PROTECTOR DEL PANEL SOLAR 
 
Retire cuidadosamente el protector del panel solar para refrigerar 
el ático con el nuevo ventilador de ático a energía solar.

Five-Year Limited Warranty 
  Limited, Non-prorated and Transferable 
 
Who and What Is Covered and For How Long 
Provided that the product covered by this warranty has 
been installed in strict accordance with the Air Vent written 
installation instructions and in accordance with all local codes 
and standards, including those pertaining to fire rated 
construction, Air Vent warrants to the original purchaser or the 
subsequent owner of the property that the parts described in 
the following sentence are free from manufacturing defects for 
5 (five) years from the date of purchase.  This warranty 
covers the fan blade, motor and solar panel. 
Should any defect occur during the 5 (five) year period 
following the date of purchase, Air Vent will provide a 
replacement for that part deemed to be defective (but not 
including the labor costs incurred in removing the part or 
installing the replacement part). 
In the event of replacement according to the terms of this 
warranty, the original warranty shall apply to the replacement 
part and will extend for the balance of the warranty period in 
effect at the time the part proved defective. 
 
Replacement Plus
TM Protection 
The Air Vent product to which this warranty applies is 
covered by Replacement Plus Protection for a period of 2 
(two) years, provided that the product has been installed in 
strict accordance with Air Vent’s written installation 
instructions and in accordance with all local codes and 
standards, including those pertaining to fire-rated 
construction.  Under this warranty feature, Air Vent, at no 
charge, will replace any part covered by this warranty and 
found to be defective during the Replacement Plus period (the 
Replacement Plus period begins when installation is 
completed).  Air Vent’s maximum liability under Replacement 
Plus will be equal to the reasonable cost of the replacement 
part, including labor to remove the defective part and install 
the replacement part. 
In instances in which Air Vent, according to the terms of this 
warranty, has agreed to pay the cost of labor required to 
replace a defective part, Air Vent will provide reimbursement 
only upon receipt of a copy of the contractor’s invoice or other 
written evidence of the completion of the work which Air Vent, 
at its sole discretion, deems acceptable. 
 
Transferability 
If there is a change in ownership, the warranty may be 
transferred by the original purchaser of the solar power vent 
to the new owner under the terms and conditions of this 
warranty.  The warranty will then cover the period of 5 (five) 
years following the purchase of the vent.  If the warranty is 
transferred from the original purchaser to a new owner during 
the 2 (two) year Replacement Plus period, the remaining 
period of Replacement Plus Protection will be available to the 
subsequent property owner.  At the end of the Replacement 
Plus Protection period, the warranty will cover 3 (three) years 
following the purchase of the power vent.

Vent reemplazará la pieza considerada defectuosa (sin incluir 
los costos de mano de obra incurridos para extraer la pieza o 
instalar la pieza de reemplazo). 
En caso de que se realice un reemplazo conforme a los 
términos de esta garantía, la garantía original se aplicará a la 
pieza de reemplazo y se extenderá durante el resto del período 
de garantía en vigencia al momento en que la pieza haya 
resultado defectuosa. 
 
Protección Replacement Plus
TM 
El producto Air Vent al cual se aplica esta garantía está 
cubierto por la protección Replacement Plus por un período de 
2 (dos) años, siempre que el producto se haya instalado 
estrictamente de conformidad con las instrucciones escritas de 
instalación de Air Vent y conforme a todos los códigos y normas 
locales, incluidos aquellos relativos a la construcción de 
clasificación ignífuga.  Conforme a esta característica de la 
garantía, Air Vent reemplazará sin cargo toda pieza cubierta por 
esta garantía que resulte defectuosa durante el período 
cubierto por la protección Replacement Plus (dicho período 
comienza cuando se completa la instalación).  Conforme a 
Replacement Plus, la máxima responsabilidad de Air Vent será 
equivalente al costo razonable de la pieza de reemplazo, 
incluida la mano de obra para extraer la pieza defectuosa e 
instalar la de repuesto. 
En los casos en que, conforme a los términos de esta 
garantía, Air Vent haya acordado pagar el costo de la mano de 
obra requerida para reemplazar una pieza defectuosa, la 
empresa sólo proveerá el reembolso al recibir una copia de la 
factura del contratista u otra evidencia escrita de la finalización 
del trabajo que Air Vent, a su exclusivo criterio, considere 
aceptable. 
 
Capacidad de transferencia 
En caso de cambio de propiedad, el comprador original del 
ventilador a energía solar podrá transferir la garantía al nuevo 
propietario, conforme a los términos y condiciones de la misma.  
La garantía cubrirá entonces el período de 5 (cinco) años a 
partir de la compra del producto.  Si la garantía fuera transferida 
por el comprador original a un nuevo propietario durante el 
período Replacement Plus de 2 (dos) años, el período restante 
de la protección Replacement Plus estará a disposición del 
propietario subsiguiente.  Al finalizar dicho período de 
protección, la garantía cubrirá 3 (tres) años a partir de la 
compra del producto.

Limitations 
Air Vent shall not be liable for, and this warranty does not 
apply to, any failure, defect or damage resulting from or 
connected with misuse, abuse, neglect or improper handling 
or storage, or installation not in strict adherence to Air Vent’s 
written instructions.  Air Vent reserves the right to discontinue 
or modify any of its products, including color, and shall not be 
liable as a result of such discontinuance or modification.  If Air 
Vent replaces any part under this warranty, it may substitute 
parts designated by Air Vent to be of comparable quality or 
price range in the event the product initially installed has been 
discontinued or modified. 
 
Other Conditions 
This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other oral or written 
warranties, liabilities or obligations of Air Vent.  Pertinent state 
law shall control for what period of time subsequent to sale a 
consumer/homeowner may seek a remedy pursuant to the 
implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular 
purpose.  In no event shall Air Vent be liable for consequential 
or incidental damages of any kind, including any damage to 
the building, its contents or any persons therein, resulting 
from the breach of warranty set forth herein.  No field 
representative of Air Vent or any distributor or dealer is 
authorized to make any change or modification to this 
warranty.  Some states do not allow limitations on or the 
exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the 
above exclusions may not apply to you. 
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may 
also have other rights that vary from state to state. 
 
What the Customer Must Do 
If you believe any part is defective, call 1-800-527-1924 for 
Customer Service.  If it’s determined that parts need to be 
returned to Air Vent they must be shipped freight prepaid to 
Air Vent, 4117 Pinnacle Point Drive, Suite 400, Dallas, Texas 
75211.  Air Vent shall then promptly inspect the claimed 
defect before the furnishing of any replacement part is 
approved, and Air Vent shall, within a reasonable time after 
approval, provide the replacement part under the terms of the 
warranty.  This warranty is effective on all solar power vents 
installed on or after June 1, 2007. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 Limitaciones 
Air Vent no será responsable y esta garantía no se aplicará 
en caso de fallas, defectos o daños resultantes de o 
relacionados con el uso indebido, abuso, negligencia o manejo 
o almacenamiento incorrectos, como tampoco en el caso de 
una instalación que no haya cumplido estrictamente las 
instrucciones escritas de Air Vent.  Air Vent se reserva el 
derecho de suspender o modificar cualquiera de sus productos, 
incluyendo el color, y no será responsable como resultado de 
dicha suspensión o modificación.  En caso de que Air Vent 
reemplace una pieza conforme a esta garantía, podrá utilizar 
otra que considere de calidad o nivel de precio comparables si 
el producto inicialmente instalado hubiera sido suspendido o 
modificado. 
 
Otras condiciones 
Esta garantía reemplaza expresamente toda otra garantía, 
responsabilidad u obligación verbal o escrita de Air Vent.  La 
legislación del estado pertinente regirá el plazo subsiguiente a 
la venta en que un consumidor/propietario de vivienda podrá 
tratar de obtener un recurso, de conformidad con la garantía 
implícita de comerciabilidad o aptitud para un propósito 
particular.  En ningún caso Air Vent será responsable de los 
daños consecuentes o incidentales de cualquier naturaleza 
(incluido cualquier daño al edificio, a su contenido o a los 
ocupantes del mismo) resultantes del incumplimiento de una 
garantía establecida en el presente.  Ningún representante de 
campo, distribuidor o agente de Air Vent está autorizado a 
realizar cambio o modificación alguna a esta garantía.  Algunos 
estados no permiten limitar o excluir los daños incidentales o 
consecuentes, por lo cual es posible que las exclusiones 
mencionadas precedentemente no se apliquen a su caso. 
Esta garantía le otorga derechos legales específicos, y es 
posible que usted también disponga de otros derechos que 
varían de estado a estado. 
 
Qué debe hacer el consumidor 
Si usted considera que una pieza está defectuosa, llame al 1-
800-527-1924 para obtener Servicio al Cliente.  En caso de que 
se determine que las piezas deben devolverse a Air Vent, éstas 
deberán despacharse con flete pagado anticipadamente a Air 
Vent, 4117 Pinnacle Point Drive, Suite 400, Dallas, Texas 
75211.  Antes de aprobar el suministro de una pieza de 
reemplazo, Air Vent procederá a inspeccionar a la brevedad el 
defecto objeto del reclamo.  En un plazo razonable después de 
la aprobación, Air Vent proveerá la pieza de reemplazo 
conforme a los términos de la garantía.  Esta garantía es válida 
para todos los ventiladores a energía solar instalados a partir
