The AEM Engine Position Module (EPM) replaces the Honda distributor and allows the use of a coil on plug or wasted spark ignition system and can be used with any aftermarket engine management system that recognizes the common 24 – 1 input for crank and cam signal. The EPM provides precise engine position using dual zero speed optical sensors. This offers the adv antage of immediate signal generation when the engine is cranked. Read and understand these instructions BEFORE attempting to install this product. 1) Removing the Stock Honda Distributor a) Remove the distri butor from the engine. b) Remove the Retaining Clip, Pin, Drive, and Shims as shown in figure 1. Figure 1. 2) Installing the AEM E ngine Position Module. a) Apply a generous amount of clean motor oil to the shaft where it enters the bottom of the EPM (see figure 2). Figure 2. Page 2 of 5 b) Re-assemble Shims, Pin, Drive, and Retaining Clip onto the shaft of the EPM.

c) Install the special slotted Disc into the EPM with the chamfered side in. Disc can be rotated to align with the different m ounting holes for the B, D, and H series engines (see figure 3). Figure 3. d) Lubricate the O-ring with cl ean motor oil and install the EPM onto the engine. Orientate The EPM as shown in figure 4 a nd secure with the existing Honda bolt and washer. The other two distributo r mounting bolts are not required. Figure 4. 3) EPM Wiring a) The EPM has a short cable with a 4 pi n connector, supplied with the EPM is the mating connector housing with 5 crimp terminals. Page 4 of 5 Figure 5. b) The EPM puts out a 12V square wave, 24 crank signals and 1 short pulse cam signal every 360 distribut or degrees, see figure 6. Figure 6. c) Figure 7 shows a typical system diagram for the Honda EPM using an aftermarket engine management system and coil on plug ignition system.
