11Use First Use Ensure that the electrical and water connections comply with the installation instructions. Remove the polystyrene block and any material from the drum. Run a cotton cycle at 95°C, without any laundry in the machine, to remove any manufacturing residue from the drum and tub. Pour 1/2 a measure of detergent into the dispenser drawer and start the machine. Setting the language When switching on the appliance for the first time, by turning the programme selector dial, you must set the language in which you want the messagges in the display to appear. When the appliance is switched on again all the messagges in the display will appear in this language. Important! If the display is not showing any language, the appliance has already been switched on once. In such case, if you would change the language setting, press at the same time «TEMP» and «SPIN» buttons for 6 seconds to activate the menu language. By pressing the «OPTIONS» button you can scroll all the available languages. Press the Okbutton twice to confirm your choice. Setting the time After having chosen the language you must set the time prior to the first wash and when changing to and from daylight savings time. The clock setting permits you to modify/set up the current time. It is important to keep it updated as the current END Cycle Time depends on it. With a short/single time pressure of the «OPTIONS» button, the time varies minute by minute. With a continue pressure of the same buttons, the time varies 10 minutes by 10 minutes. 12Use Personalization This appliance is provided of a «settings» menu that allows you to modify the factory settings as you want. When you switch on the machine, by turning the programme selector dial, press the «OPTIONS» button to activate the Options menu. By pressing again the same button you can move through all the available options till when you locate the Settingsmenu. Press OKto access in the menu. Use again «OPTIONS» button to scroll all the settings and press OKbutton to confirm your choice. Setting the brightness The Brightnesssetting allows you to modify the backlight intensity of the display. By pressing the «OPTIONS» button, you can increase or decrease the brightness. You can choose between different levels from 0 to 9 (0 = min. - 9 = max.). Press OKbutton to confirm your choice. Setting the contrast The Contrastsetting allows you to modify the optical characteristic of the display. By pressing the «OPTIONS» button, you can increase or decrease the contrast. You can choose between different levels from 0 to 9 (0 = min. - 9 = max.). Press OKbutton to confirm your choice. Acoustic signal The machine is provided of an acoustic device, which sounds in the following cases: at the end of the programme in the event of operating problems If you wish to activate the acoustic device, press the «OPTIONS» button in order to select the menu «Buzzer». Press OK button to confirm your choice . The line around the corresponding symbol begins to flash to indicate that the regulation can be carried out. Press again «OPTIONS» button to activate or deactivate the acoustic signal. Then press OK button to confirm your choice (ON or OFF). Return to main menu This setting function allows you to return to the options menu. Locate the BACKoption by pressing the «OPTIONS» button. 13Use Daily Use Load the laundry 1.Open the door by carefully pulling the door handle outwards. Place the laundry in the drum, one item at a time, shaking them out as much as possible. 2.Close firmly the door. You must hear a click during closing. Attention!Do not embed the laundry between the door and the rubber joint. Measure out the detergent and the fabric softener Your new appliance was designed to reduce water, energy and detergent consumption. 1.Pull out the dispenser drawer until it stops. Measure out the amount of detergent required, pour it into the main wash compartment and, if you wish to carry out the prewashphase, pour the detergent into the compartment marked . If you wish to perform the stain function, pour the stain remover into the compartment marked . 2.If required, pour fabric softener into the compartment marked (the amount used must not exceed the MAXmark in the drawer). Close the drawer gently. Select the required programme You can choose the right programme for any type of laundry following the descriptions on the washing programme tables (see Washing Programmes). 132969171.qxd 31/01/2008 12.17 Pagina 13
14Use Turn the programme selector dial to the required programme. The programme selector determines the type of washing cycle (e.g. water level, drum movement, number of rinses) and the washing temperature according to the type of laundry. The START/PAUSElight starts to flash and the Display shows the programme name and the duration of the selected programme. The selector dial can be turned either clockwise or anticlockwise. Position O/OFFto Reset programme/Switching OFF of the machine. At the end of the programme the selector dial must be turned to position O/OFF, to switch the machine off. Attention! If you turn the programme selector dial to another programme when the machine is working, the Yellow Start/Pausepilot light will flash 3 times and a message asking for turning the programme selector in the last used position will appear in the display. The machine will not perform the new selected programme. Select the temperature (TEMP.) Press this button repeatedly to increase or decrease the temperature, if you want your laundry to be washed at a temperature different from the one proposed by the washing machine. The maximum temperatures for each washing programme can be checked in the paragraph «Washing programmes». The symbol of cold wash corresponds to . For the compatibility between options and washing programmes consult the chapter «WASHING PROGRAMMES». Select the SPIN speed, Night cycle or Rinse hold option Press this button repeatedly to change the spin speed, if you want your laundry to be spun at a speed different from the one proposed by the washing machine. Maximum speeds are: ●for COTTONS/LINENS, HYGIÈNE, 40-60 MIX, ECONOMY: 1400 rpm; ●for JEANS, SYNTHETICS, EASY IRON PLUS, DELICATES, WOOL PLUS, LINGERIE, SILK, 20 MIN.-3 KG, QUICK INTENSIVE: 1200 rpm; ●for OUTDOOR SPORTS and DUVETS: 800 rpm; 132969171.qxd 31/01/2008 12.17 Pagina 14
15Use «Rinse hold» :by selecting this option the water of the last rinse is not emptied out to prevent the fabrics from creasing. At the end of the programme, 0and -symbol will flash on the display, the messages «Door locked»and «Rinse hold»appear on the display, the START/PAUSE pilot light goes off and the door is blocked to indicate that the water must be emptied out. To empty the water out: ●turn the programme selector dial to O/OFF ●select the DRAIN or SPIN programme ●reduce the spin speed if needed, by means of the relevant button ●press the START/PAUSEbutton ●when the programme has finished the display shows a flashing 0 and the message «Finished». The door can be opened. «Night cycle» :by selecting this option, the machine will not drain the water of the last rinse, so as not to wrinkle the laundry. As all spinning phases are suppressed, this washing cycle is very noiseless and it can be selected at night or in times with a more economical power rate. On some programmes the rinses will be performed with more water. At the end of the programme, 0 and -symbol will flash on the display, the messages «Door locked» and «Rinse hold»appear on the display, the Start/Pause pilot light goes off and the door is blocked to indicate that the water must be emptied out. To empty out the water, please read the previous option chapter. For the compatibility between options and washing programmes consult the chapter «Washing programmes». Programme option buttons Depending on the programme, different functions can be combined. Attention:Not all the options are compatible between themselves. The symbols and messagges of the incompatible options are not displayed. Anyway, if an option, which is not compatible with the set washing programme or any other option, is selected, the message «Not selectable»will be displayed. You must select the options after you have selected the programme but before pressing the START/PAUSE button. 16Use To scroll all the available options, depress the «OPTIONS» button. The corresponding programme name appears in the relative rectangle to indicate that this programme has been selected. Depress the OKbutton to activate and confirm your choice. The corresponding icon appears on the right side of the display to indicate that this option has been set. Depress the same button to deactivate the option. After selecting the options, wait about 10 seconds untill the display gets back to the default status. The selected options appear on the display. Select the PREWASH option Select this option if you wish your laundry to be prewashed at 30°C before the main wash. The Prewash ends with a short spin in programmes for cotton and synthetic fabrics, whereas in the programmes for delicate fabrics the water is only drained. For the compatibility between this option and washing programmes consult the chapter «Washing programmes». The relevant symbol will appear on the display. Select the STAIN option Select this option to treat heavily soiled or stained laundry with stain remover (extended main wash with time optimised stain action phase). This option is notavailable with a temperature lower than 40°C. For the compatibility between this option and all washing programmes consult the chapter «Washing programmes». Attention!If you wish to perform a programme with the stain option, pour stain remover into compartment . The relevant symbol will appear on the display. Select the SENSITIVE option By depressing this button the washing intensity will be reduced. The machine adds one rinse in the programmes for cotton and synthetics. This option is non compatible with Extra Rinse option. For the compatibility between this option and washing programmes consult the chapter «Washing programmes». 17Use Select the EXTRA RINSE option This appliance is designed for saving water. However, for people with a very delicate skin (allergic to detergents) it may be necessary to rinse the laundry using an extra quantity of water (extra rinse). For the compatibility between this option and washing programmes consult the chapter «Washing programmes». The relevant symbol will appear on the display. Select the TIME option The washing machine proposes by default the washing cycle for «Normally soiled laundry». The washing cycle can be shorted by means of this button. This option can be selected with the washing programmes for COTTONS, SYNTHETICS and DELICATES. By pressing this buttononce, the symbol and the message «DAILY» appear on the display and you will be able to short the washing duration for «Daily soiled laundry». The display will show the shorted washing time. To be used for daily soiled laundry. By pressing this button twice, the symbol and the message «SUPER QUICK» will appear on the display and you will be able to short the washing duration for «lightly soiled laundry». The display will show the shorted washing time. To be used only for very lightly soiled laundry. The maximum load size is 4 kg for cotton and 2 kg for synthetics and delicates. Select the SAVE MEMORY option Programme settings that are frequently used can be saved (e.g. cotton, 60°C, 1000 rpm, with Prewash and Extra Rinse). There are 2 memory spaces available for this purpose in the last 2 position of the programme selector dial. The saved programme can be selected in the same way as any other wash programme by means of the selector dial. Saving Memory: ●select the desired programme and required options ●press the OPTIONSbutton to activate the options menu ●by pressing the OPTIONSbutton, locate the «SAVE MEMORY» option and depress OKbutton 132969171.qxd 31/01/2008 12.17 Pagina 17
18Use ●by pressing the OPTIONSbutton select the number of the MEMORY (1-2) in which you wish memorize your customized programme. ●press the Okbutton to save the selected programme. On the display appears the message «SAVED» in highlighted mode. To change the memorized programme setting repeat the procedure from the beginning. Note If the memory space is already used by a programme previously selected, the display will show the message «Memory full. Press OK to overwrite it. Press OPTIONS to cancel.». Depress then OKbutton to memorize the new programme. The MEMORY programmes cannot be erased, but you can only overwrite them with another preferred washing programmes (see Note). Selection of the Child Lock option Your appliance is provided of CHILD SAFETY LOCK, which permits you to leave the appliance not supervised with the door closed without having the worry that children might be injured by or cause damage to the appliance. Set this option before pressing the START/PAUSE and after having selected the required programme wash. This function remains able also when the washing machine is not working. Setting Child lock option: press the OPTIONS button to activate the options menu. press the OPTIONS button to locate the Child Lock option. press the OK button to enable this option. The corrisponding icon and the message«Press OPTIONS and OK together for 5 seconds to unlock machine»appear on the display. If you press any button after the programme has started with Child Lock enabled, the display will show the message «Machine is locked, use key combination to unlock it». At the end of the programme it is necessary to press simultaneously the OPTIONS and OK buttons for 5 seconds until the dispaly wiil show the message «Machine unlocked». 132969171.qxd 31/01/2008 12.17 Pagina 18
19Use DISPLAY The display shows the following information: Duration of the selected programme After selecting a programme, the duration of the washing programme and the extimated end of cycle are displayed in hours and minutes (for example 2.05). The duration is calculated automatically on the basis of the maximum recommended load for each type of fabric. After the programme has started, the time remaining is updated every minute. Programme progress display After having pressed the START/PAUSE button, the display shows the running phase of the washing program. On the display you can see also the description of the selected type of fabric, an animated bar, that indicates the carried out cycle and the remaining one, the duration of the washing program and the end of cycle. Delay start If you have selected the DELAY START, the relevant icon appears on the right side of the display After having pressed the START/PAUSE button, the selected delay time value (max 20 hours) appears on the right side of the display, closed to the corresponding icon . The delay time value decreases every minute. Incorrect option selection If an option, which is not compatible with the set washing programme, is selected, the message «Non selectable»is displayed for some seconds. Alarm codes In the event of operating problems, some alarm messages can be displayed, for example «Cannot fill water. Please check that the tap is open and then press START/PAUSE». (see paragraph «Something not working»). End of the programme When the programme has finished the messages «Door Unlocked» and «Finished» appear alternatively. If your laundry is not removed during 10 minutes after the programme is finished, the backlight of the display switches off and the energy saving system will be enabled. Only the START/PAUSE button pilot light is flashing to indicate that the appliance has to be switched off. By pressing any button the appliance will come out from the energy saving status and you could set another washing programme or swich off the appliance. Select the START/PAUSE Press the Start/Pause button, to start the selected programme. The corresponding red pilot light stops flashing. On the display will appear the name and the running phase of the selected programme to indicate that the appliance starts operating and the door is locked. To interrupt a programme which is running, depress the START/PAUSE button: the corresponding red pilot light starts to flash, while the message «PAUSE» appears on the display to indicate that the machine is in pause. To restart the programme from the point at which it was interrupted, pressthe Start/Pausebuttonagain. If you have chosen a delayed start, the machine will begin the countdown. Select the DELAY START This option makes it possible to delay the starting of the washing programme by 30, 60, 90 minutes, 2 hours and then by 1 hour till 20 hours. Press the DELAY START button, to select the desired delay. The selected delay time will appear on the display for some seconds, then the selected programme name and its duration will appear again. You must select this option after you have set the programme and before you press the START/PAUSE button. Selecting the delayed start: ●Select the programme and the required options; ●Select the delay start; ●Depress the START/PAUSE button: the machine starts its hourly countdown. The programme will start after the selected delay has expired. You can cancel the delay time at any moment, before you press the START/PAUSE button. 20Use 132969171.qxd 31/01/2008 12.17 Pagina 20
