5 Operating Instructions 1Safety Prior to using for the first time •Follow the ”Instructions for install ation and connection”. If the appliance is delivered in th e winter months when there are mi- nus temperatures: Store the washin g machine at room temperature for 24 hours before using for the first time. Correct use The washing machine is only design ed for the washing of normal do- mestic laundry at home. Additions or modifications to th e washing machine are not permit- ted. Use only detergents and additives th at are suitable for use in domes- tic washing machines. The washing must not contain any in flammable solutions. Danger of explosion! Do not use the washing machine for dry cleaning. Dyes/colour removers may only be used in the washing machine, if the manufacturer of these products expressly permits this. We cannot be held responsible for any damage arising. Child safety and Infirm Persons Keep packaging away from children. There is a risk of suffocation. This appliance is not intended for use by people (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or me ntal capabilities, or lack of expe- rience and knowledge, unless they ha ve been given supervision or in- struction concerning use of the appl iance by a person responsible for their safety. Children often do not recognise the hazards associated with electrical appliances. Do not allow children to use the washing machine unsu- pervised. Make sure that children and pets don’t climb into the drum of the washing machine. Could endanger life!
6 General safety Repairs to the washing machine must only be carried out by qualified service engineers. Never use the washing machine if th e mains cable is damaged; or if the control panel, work top or plin th area is damaged such that the inside of the appliance is freely accessible. Switch off the washing machine be fore cleaning, maintenance and servicing. In addition, pull the main s plug out of the socket or – in the case of a permanent connection – switch off the cut-out in the fuse box or remove the screw fuse completely. If operation is stopped, disconnect the appliance from the mains sup- ply and shut off the water tap. Never unplug the appliance by pullin g on the cable. Always pull the plug. Multi-way plugs, connectors and ext ension cables must not be used. This could constitute a fire hazard through overheating. Never wash the washing machine down with a water jet. Danger of electric shock! In washing programmes with high te mperatures the glass in the door gets hot. Do not touch it. Before emergency emptying of the appliance, before cleaning the drain pump or opening the door in an emergency, let the water cool down. Small animals can nibble at the cables and water hoses. Danger of electric shock and danger of wate r damage! Keep small animals away from the washing machine.
7 Switching on the appliance for the first time – setting the language When switching on the appliance for the first time you should be sure to set the language in which you want the indicators in the display to appear. 1. Press the control knob. The appliance is now switched on. The languages that can be chosen will ap- pear in the display. In the factory the language is pre- set to English. Important: If the display is not showing any languages, the appliance has been switched on before. If th is happens, please see the section “Setting extra options: Language”, if you want to change the language setting. 2. Use the control knob to highlight the desired lan- guage. 3.Press the SELECT key. From now on all indicators in the display will appear in this language. 4.Press the control knob to switch off the appliance. 9 Main control features Control knob Switching the appliance on and off Press the control knob to switch the appliance on and off. Highlighting You can highlight the entries on the right of the display by turning the control knob. Cancelling settings If you would like to cancel settings that have been made by mistake, switch the appliance off and on ag ain using the control knob. You are now able to re-set the programme. Keys Using the keys you can: – activate an entry on the left-hand side of the dis- play, e. g. START – change the temperature and the spin speed – select OPTIONS and EXTRAS. 3You can set one or more options for each programme. The basic rule: First set the programme, then set the option. 3The programmes and functions are divided into different levels and pages. In the navigation display yo u can see the level and the page you are currently on (e.g. ì: level 3, page 1 of 2).
