ENGLISH5
• To switch off the Acoustic Alarm and the Temperature Display flashing, press ALARM STOP Acoustic Alarm OFF Button. • When switching on the freezer for the first time, the Red ALARM Indicator Light will blink until the internal tem- perature has reached a level required for the safe conservation of frozen food. If the ALARM STOP button is not pressed then the acoustic alarm will break off after approx. one hour. The Red ALARM Indicator Light will continue to flash. Press the ALARM STOP button. 2.2 Switching off • Press the ON/OFF Button for appr. 3 seconds. • The Green ON/OFF Indicator Light and the Display switches off. • To disconnect the appliance from the power disconnect the mains plug from the wall socket. 2.3 Temperature regulation The set temperature of the freezer may be adjusted by pressing the Tempera- ture Regulator Buttons. Set default temperature -18 °C, it is opti- mal for food storage. The Display shows the set temperature. The set temperature will be reached within 24 hours. Fluctuations of some degrees around set temperature are normal and does not mean any fault in the appliance. After a power failure the set tem- perature remains stored. 2.4 Red ALARM Indicator Light Under normal operating conditions, the internal temperature of the freezer will ensure the long-term conservation of the stored food. When such temperature rises above a certain level (-12 °C, for example due to an earlier power failure), the appliance will trigger an acoustic and light alarm. The light alarm is a blink red light (Red ALARM Indicator Light), while the acous- tic alarm is an intermittent sound. • You can stop the acoustic alarm by pressing the ALARM STOP Button. • The acoustic alarm switches off. • The freezer Display shows the highest temperature reached for a few sec- onds. The compressor will now run continuously, to ensure that the fresh food is frozen as quick- ly as possible. 2.It is possible to deactivate the func- tion at any time by pressing the SU- PER Quick Freeze Button. 3.Place the food in the freezing com- partment or compartments (indica- ted with graphics) and leave the FROSTMATIC function for a further 24 hours. 4.Then push the SUPER Quick Freeze Button again (the Yellow SUPER Indi- cator Light will go out). 5.Move frozen food from the freezing compartments into the other com- partments (storing compartments) to make room for another freezing. If the SUPER Quick Freeze But- ton is accidentally left on, the freezer will not be damaged, but energy will be wasted and it will be automatically switched off 52 hours later. The SUPER Indicator Light will also go out. 6www.aeg.com
3. FIRST USE 3.1 Cleaning the interior Before using the appliance for the first time, wash the interior and all internal accessories with lukewarm water and some neutral soap so as to remove thetypical smell of a brand-new product, then dry thoroughly.Do not use detergents or abra- sive powders, as these will dam- age the finish. 4. DAILY USE 4.1 Freezing fresh food The freezer compartments (indicated with graphics) are suitable for freezing fresh food and storing frozen and deep- frozen food for a long time. To freeze fresh food activate the SUPER Quick Freeze function. The maximum amount of food that can be frozen in 24 hours is specified on the rating plate, a label located on the in- side of the appliance. The freezing process lasts 24 hours: dur- ing this period do not add other food to be frozen. 4.2 Storage of frozen food When first starting-up or after a period out of use, before putting the products in the compartment let the appliance run at least 2 hours on the higher settings. In the event of accidental de- frosting, for example due to a power failure, if the power has been off for longer than the val- ue shown in the technical charac- teristics chart under "rising time", the defrosted food must be consumed quickly or cooked immediately and then re-frozen (after cooling). 4.3 Thawing Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to be- ing used, can be thawed at room tem- perature. Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer. 5. HELPFUL HINTS AND TIPS 5.1 Normal Operating Sounds • You may hear a faint gurgling and a bubbling sound when the refrigerant is pumped through the coils or tubing. This is correct. • When the compressor is on, the refrig- erant is being pumped around and you will hear a whirring sound and a pulsating noise from the compressor. This is correct. • The thermic dilatation might cause a sudden cracking noise. It is natural, not dangerous physical phenomenon. This is correct.• When the compressor switches on or switches off, you will hear a faint "click" of the temperature regulator. This is correct. 5.2 Hints for freezing To help you make the most of the freez- ing process, here are some important hints: • the maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in 24 hrs. is shown on the rating plate; ENGLISH7
• the freezing process takes 24 hours. No further food to be frozen should be added during this period; • only freeze top quality, fresh and thor- oughly cleaned, foodstuffs; • prepare food in small portions to ena- ble it to be rapidly and completely fro- zen and to make it possible subse- quently to thaw only the quantity re- quired; • wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and make sure that the packages are airtight; • do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food which is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in temperature of the latter; • lean foods store better and longer than fatty ones; salt reduces the stor- age life of food; • water ices, if consumed immediately after removal from the freezer com- partment, can possibly cause the skin to be freeze burnt;• it is advisable to show the freezing in date on each individual pack to enable you to keep tab of the storage time. 5.3 Hints for storage of frozen food To obtain the best performance from this appliance, you should: • make sure that the commercially fro- zen foodstuffs were adequately stored by the retailer; • be sure that frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the foodstore to the freezer in the shortest possible time; • not open the door frequently or leave it open longer than absolutely neces- sary; • once defrosted, food deteriorates rap- idly and cannot be refrozen; • do not exceed the storage period in- dicated by the food manufacturer. 6. CARE AND CLEANING CAUTION! Unplug the appliance before car- rying out any maintenance oper- ation. This appliance contains hydrocar- bons in its cooling unit; mainte- nance and recharging must therefore only be carried out by authorized technicians. 6.1 Periodic cleaning The equipment has to be cleaned regu- larly: • clean the inside and accessories with lukewarm water and some neutral soap. • regularly check the door seals and wipe clean to ensure they are clean and free from debris. • rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not pull, move or damage any pipes and/or cables inside the cabinet. Never use detergents, abrasive powders, highly perfumed clean- ing products or wax polishes to clean the interior as this will dam- age the surface and leave a strong odour. Clean the condenser (black grill) and the compressor at the back of the appliance with a brush. This operation will improve the performance of the appliance and save electricity consumption. Take care of not to damage the cooling system. Many proprietary kitchen surface clean- ers contain chemicals that can attack/ damage the plastics used in this appli- ance. For this reason it is recommended that the outer casing of this appliance is only cleaned with warm water with a little washing-up liquid added. 8www.aeg.com
After cleaning, reconnect the equipment to the mains supply. 6.2 Defrosting of the freezer The freezer compartment of this model, on the other hand, is a "no frost" type. This means that there is no buildup of frost when it is in operation, neither on the internal walls nor on the foods. The absence of frost is due to the con- tinuous circulation of cold air inside the compartment, driven by an automatically controlled fan. 6.3 No-Frost technology In order to facilitate the removal of the ice layer, the evaporator is assisted by electric heating during the defrosting procedure. The ventilator is in OFF posi- tion. The defrost water will drip in the tray placed at the compressor and will evaporate. In the course of the defrost- ing procedure (approx. 30 minutes) the evaporator becomes warm but it has no influence on the internal temperature. The foods should be kept well-packed in order to avoid any moisture loss as a re- sult of air circulation. Do not obstruct the vent holes. It is recommended to put all foods in the baskets in the freezer compartment. 6.4 Periods of non-operation When the appliance is not in use for long periods, take the following precau- tions: 1.disconnect the appliance from elec- tricity supply 2.remove all food 3.clean the appliance and all accesso- ries 4.leave the lid open to prevent un- pleasant smells. If the cabinet will be kept on, ask somebody to check it once in a while to prevent the food inside from spoiling in case of a power failure. 7. WHAT TO DO IF… WARNING! Before troubleshooting, discon- nect the mains plug from the mains socket. Only a qualified electrician or competent person must do the troubleshooting that is not in this manual. There are some sounds during normal use (compressor, refriger- ant circulation). The appliance operates discon- tinuously, so the stopping of compressor does not mean be- ing no current. That is why you must not touch the electrical parts of the appliance before breaking the circuit.
