Addonics Technologies Saturn Cipher Mobile Rack Us er Guide 4 Chapter 2 Saturn Cipher key Check to make sure you have the co rrect version of S aturn Cipher key. The key should match the label at th e back of the drive enclosure IMPORTANT There is no back door for the Saturn Cipher encrypted hard drive if the key is lost or stolen. To ensure there is a spar e key, Your Saturn Cipher bundled kit comes with one pair of Saturn Cipher keys. These 2 key s have identical en cryption code. One of these keys should be kept in a safe and secure location an d can be sent back to Addonics for duplicating a dditiona l keys. If y ou are down to the last key, be sure to make a back up of all the data stored in side your encr ypted hard drive prior to sending th e last key to Addonics. Addonics is not responsible fo r key lost in the mail or r etrieval of the data inside the encrypted hard drive. Ø The CIPHER key MUST be inserted at the front of the drive enclosure in order for th e drive to be ACTIVATED. Ø Once the drive is INITIALIZED using the Ciph er Key that comes with the kit, the drive can only be accessed by the original ke Ø The 2 keys that come with each Saturn bundled kit h as their own unique encryption code. So the keys among different kits are not interchangeable. Ø If you have multiple sets of Saturn Cipher kits and would like all the keys to have the same encryption code, yo u may make this request at the time of your order or mail the keys together with m aster key back to Addonics to recode them for you. Again be sure that you keep a spare key with you. Make a back up of y our data if you are mailin g in your last key. Yellow label SC-64 stands for Saturn Cipher 64-bit Green label SC-128 stands for Saturn Cipher 128-bit
Addonics Technologies Saturn Cipher Mobile Rack Us er Guide 5 Chapter 3 Keeping track of the hard drive If you are usin g the Saturn Cipher drive enclosure to encrypted multiple hard drives. It is importan t to label your hard drive if y ou are taking th e drive out of the enclosure. The hard drive with Saturn Cipher encryption will look like a brand new drive w hen attach directly to the IDE or SATA controller of a computer. There will be no partition or any hint to indicate that th e drive contains encrypted data. When the drive is partitioned, all th e encrypted data will be lost. The same holds true if a hard dr ive already has data on it is installed into the Saturn Cipher drive enclo sure. The computer detects the hard drive as a brand new drive o r a drive that is una llocated. Once yo u proceed to partition the drive, the data th at was on the hard dri ve will be erased and cannot be recovered. A Saturn Ciph er encrypted hard drive can be mo ved to another Saturn Cipher drive enclosure. But the same key us ed in encrypting the hard drive must be used in the n ew drive enclos ure in order to access the drive. If you are installing multiple Saturn Cipher drive kits in your organization, it is important to keep track of the drive and the encryption key. Once it gets mixed up, there is no possible way to recover the data on the encrypted hard drive.

H ard drive will not be detected by the computer if the power to the drive cradle is turned on without the Cipher key. Under such condition, the system h as to be restarted with the Cipher key already inserted into the drive enclosure in o rder to detect the hard drive. Note: The power switch on the back of the drive MUST be se t to the right to power the ha rd drive for external use.

Addonics Technologies Saturn Cipher Mobile Rack Us er Guide 9 Chapter 5 Saturn IDE Drive cradle Overview Drive cradle, also known as fixed tray, is the frame that mounts inside the drive bay of a Desktop, Server or any computing equipment. T he drive cradle provides both power and da ta connection betwee n the computer and the drive enclosure. The Saturn IDE Dr ive cradle fits into any standard 5 ¼ ” drive bay and connects to the computer via IDE interface. The Satur n IDE drive cradle is compatible with all Saturn Drive enclosures and Saturn Cipher Drive enclosures. As a r esult you can insert SATA or IDE hard dri ve, encrypted or unencrypted, into the same dr ive cradle of a computer. Building a hot swap drive bay You can change th e IDE connection of the drive cradle to USB 2.0 or SATA by attaching an Addonics IO converter – IDE-USB, IDE-SATA, or the IDE- USIB co nnector board to the 40-pin IDE connector on back of the drive cradle. Wh en the power input of these IO c onverters is connected to the unique power sensing connector on the back of the Saturn IDE dr ive cradle, you can have hot swap capability of the hard drives, just like using a tape cartridge sys tem, without shuttin g down the computer.
