2.1 Important Information for set up \bfter having unpacked your subwoofer, please allow the syste\f to accli\fate to the te\fperature of the roo\f for approxi\fately an hour. The subwoofer should be posit\nioned on a fir\f ground. We reco\f\fend that you retain the original packaging, as it is the best way to guarantee safe transportation should the need to do so arise. Please note that the subwoofer will take so\fe break-in ti\fe to achieve opti\fu\f sonic perfor\fance. 2.2 Quick Start a) Before connecting the subwoofer to your audio co\fponents and the power source \fake sure that the subwoofer, the loudspeakers and your audio source are switched off and set the level controls fully counterclockwise. \f) Choose your preferred connection as des\ncribed under 3. c) Check if the specified voltage \fatches the voltage of the power supply you use. If this is not the case do not conne\nct the loudspeakers to a power source! Please contact your local dealer o\nr national distributor. If the voltages \fatch, use the included power cables to connect the loudspeaker to the \bC sockets. d) Switch on the \fain on/off switches on the rear panel of the subwoofer. e) Make sure that the line out level (volu\fe) of your stereo is either at a low level or all the way off. Then, switch on your audio syste\f. f) Turn on your source of \fusic and adju\nst the volu\fe carefully. 2. Quick Start
Sub7 Manual / English 3.1 Connections On the rear side of the speaker you can find balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RC\b) connectors. For professional use the XLR connectors will be the first choice. However, as RC\b connections are widely used in ho\fe entertain\fent environ\fents we have included an RC\b jack as well. 3.2 Input Connect the left and right line-level signal fro\f your signal source (audio interface, \fixer, etc.) to the LEFT and RIGHT I\nNPUT jacks. Use either XLR (balanced) \nor RC\b (unbalanced) cable\ns. 3.3 Satellite Out Connect the LEFT and RIGHT S\n\bTELLITE OUT jacks to the inputs of the left and right \fain powered speakers or the inputs of the a\fps powering the \fain speakers. 3.4 LEDs There are two LEDs on the front, one on each potentio\feter. Both LEDs will glow green during operation and yellow during stand-by (\buto On \fode, see 5.2)\n. 3. Connecting the Su\fw\coofer
It is co\f\fon knowledge that low frequencies (below about 100Hz) are non-directional, \feaning they can hardly be located by the listener. It is, however, a co\f\fon \fisunder- standing that therefore the place\fent of a su\nbwoofer does not \fatter. It does \fatter. Due to the fact that every roo\f (geo\fetry, furniture, etc.) is unique, the following de- scriptions intend to be a first introduction to the subject. The ai\f is to assist you tack - ling the \fost co\f\fon proble\fs with subwoofers and roo\f acoustics, notably interfer - ence and standing waves. 4.1 Distance to satellites In \fost set ups it is advisable to place the subwoofer not too far fro\f the satellites to \fini\fize the chance of Interferences. Interference \feans the superposition of two or \fore waves resulting in an attenuation/cancellatio\nn or enhance\fent of the specific frequency/frequencies. Further\fore, big refelexion faces in close range of the subwoofer should be avoid- ed if possible. 4.2 Walls/Distance to walls Generally, every wall in relative close distance to the subwoofer enhances its sound pressure by about 6 dB. For instance, placing the subwoofer in a corner of a roo\f will \fake it about 18 dB louder. It is likely that this will result in an i\fpair - \fent of the precision of the \fusical reproduction. \bnother proble\f related to the geo\fetrics of the roo\f concerns the so called ‘standing waves’. These are sound waves being reciprocated between reflecting objects, so they ‘stand’ (don’t see\f to \fove) in between these objects. The speak - er continues to produce new waves that co\fbines its force with the first wave(s): a vicious circle that results in local i\fb\nalances of the particular frequencies. 4.3 Finding the optimum \cposition Give it a try! The \fost i\fportant tool for finding the best position for your sub- woofer are your ears. There are two rather easy ways: You can deter\fine your listening spot first and then co\fpare the sound of the subwoofer at different positions. \bnother option is to place the subwoofer at the listening position and then \fove around. Whereever the sound is the best the subwoofer should be posit\nioned. 4. Su\fwoofer Placement
Sub7 Manual / English On the front side you will find two potentio\feters, one for the volu\fe and one for the crossover frequency. Both the volu\fe and the frequency can also be controlled by the re\fote control. On the rear side, there are \fore controls (satellite filter, phase switch, \fode). The following tips are intended to assist you at using the controls in the best \fanner. 5.1 Controls on the front panel and Remote control a) Volume Input Sensitivity control fro\f -60 dB to +6 dB relative to 775 \fV when used via the sy\f\fetrical XLR input or relative to 250 \fV when used via the asy\f\fetrical Cinch (RC\b) input. \f) Frequency The upper frequency li\fit of the unit is variable and can be set to any value between 50 and 150Hz. The 85Hz \farker indicates the reco\f\fendation of Dolby® labs for surround sound settings. In \fany cases, a slightly lower crossover frequency delivers tighter bass response, for typical near-\fidfield \fonitors we reco\f\fend 70 to 75Hz as upper li\fit (i.e. -3 dB point i\nn the frequency response). Please note: If \fou alter the frequenc\f it is advisa\ble to check if an alteration of the phase improves the sound qualit\f. 5. Controls FREQ VOLUME+ +
5.2 Controls on the rear panel a) Mode This push button allows you to choose between • Auto: The subwoofer starts operation as soon as a \fusical signal arrives, and stops after 15 \finutes without a signal. • On: The unit is per\fanently working. We reco\f\fend the ”\buto” position. It \fini\fises power consu\fption and \fakes handling very easy. \f) Su\fwoofer Phase With the Phase Switch you can alter the phase of the subwoofer relative to the satellites. That \feans to change the polarity of the bass unit. Depending on the distance between woofer and satellites, either 0° or 180° \fay be the better position. We reco\f\fend to try out what position sounds better within your syste\f. c) Satellite Filter The satellites in a syste\f can be driven full range or with a 85 Hz high pass as reco\f\fended by Dolby® laboratories for use in surround set- ups. Reco\f\fendation: If possible the \fain signal should go into the Subwoofer. Connect your satellites to the Subwoofer output, either via XLR sy\f\fetrical or RC\b asy\f\fetrical. In \fany cases, clarity and dyna\fic range of the speakers can be i\fproved if they do not reproduce very low frequencies since they do not have to deliver big a\fplitudes. d) Foot Switch This input jack allows for switching the subwoofer on or off by footswitch. When you have connected the Input and Output of the subwoofer with the sa\fe type of conne\nctors (either both XLR or both RC\b) the footswitch will also switch off the Satellite Filter, enabling the satellite speakers to play full range. 5.
