Settings164 Enable the Bluetooth Feature Use the settings menu to enable or disable your phone’s Bluetooth capabilities. • Wireless connection to all Bluetooth functions is not guaranteed for the phone. • The phone may not connect properly depending on the other device. • Noise may be experienced with wireless calls and hands-free calls depending on the conditions. To enable Bluetooth: 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth . 3. Tap On/Off to turn Bluetooth on. • To disable Bluetooth, tap On/Off again. Tip : You can also turn Bluetooth on or off with the toggle menu in the notification panel. Pull down the status bar to display the notification panel, and then tap Bluetooth to turn Bluetooth on or off. Note : Turn off Bluetooth when not in use to conserve battery power, or in places where using a wireless phone is prohibited, such as aboard an aircraft and in hospitals. Pair Bluetooth Devices Search for and pair nearby Bluetooth devices. Registered Bluetooth devices can be connected simply. • Enable the Bluetooth function on the Bluetooth devices being paired beforehand. To pair Bluetooth devices: 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps .
Settings165 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth . • Nearby devices appear in the “Available devices” list. • If a target device is not detected, tap Scan to search again. 3. Tap a device from the “Available devices” list, and follow the prompts to pair with the device. • The Bluetooth device is paired to your phone. • Methods to accept a Bluetooth connection differ depending on the devices used. Unpairing from a Paired Device 1. From the Bluetooth settings menu, tap Settings next to the paired device you wish to unpair. 2. Tap Unpair . • The device is unpaired from your phone. To make another connection with the device, you will need to pair again. Connect to a Paired Bluetooth Device You can listen to music over a Bluetooth stereo headset, or have hands-free conversations using a compatible Bluetooth headset or car kit. It is the same procedure to set up stereo audio and hands-free devices. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth . • Paired Bluetooth devices appear in the “Paired devices” list. 3. Tap a device from the “Paired devices” list. The pairing and connection status is displayed below the device’s name in the Bluetooth devices section. When the device is connected to your phone, the Bluetooth paired icon is displayed in the status bar. Depending on the type of device you have connected, you can then start using the headset or car kit to listen to music or make and receive phone calls.
Settings166 Note : Due to different specifications and features of other Bluetooth-compatible devices, display and operations may be different, and functions such as transfer or exchange may not be possible with all Bluetooth-compatible devices. Send Information Using Bluetooth You can use Bluetooth to transfer information between your phone and another Bluetooth-enabled device such as a phone or notebook computer. Types of Data You Can Send Using Bluetooth You can send the following types of information, depending on the device you are sending to: • Images and videos • Calendar events • Contacts • Audio files In the instructions below, Contacts data is used as an example. Sending Contacts Data Using Bluetooth 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Contacts. 3. Tap a contact and select Details. 4. Tap Share . 5. Tap vCard file (VCF) to share the contact as a vCard file, or tap Te x t to share the contact information in a text file. 6. Tap Bluetooth and follow the prompts to share the contact.
Settings167 Receive Information Using Bluetooth Your phone is capable of receiving a wide variety of file types with Bluetooth, including pictures, music tracks, and documents such as PDFs. 1. When another device attempts to send a file to your phone using Bluetooth, you will see a request to accept the file. 2. Tap Accept . • When your phone receives a file, you will see a notification. To open the file immediately, pull down the status bar to display the notification panel, and then tap the notification. • When you open a received file, what happens next depends on the file type: -Media files and documents are usually opened directly in a compatible application. For example, if you open a music track, it starts playing in the Music application. -For a vCalendar file, select the calendar where you want to save the event, and then tap Import. The vCalendar is added to your Calendar events. (For more information on using the Calendar, see Calendar.) -For a vCard contact file, if there are multiple vCard files on your storage card, you can choose to import one, several, or all of those contacts to your contacts list. Bluetooth Settings Configure your Bluetooth settings. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth .
Settings168 Bluetooth Settings Operations • Change your phone name: From Bluetooth settings, tap More options > Rename device , enter a new name, and tap Done. -This changes the name of your phone as seen by other devices. • Pairing Bluetooth devices : Make sure the other devices are set to be discovered. From Bluetooth settings, tap the device name in “Available devices” and follow the prompts. -Depending on the device, you may be required to enter or accept a passkey. -If the target device does not appear, tap Scan to search again. -This setting is available when Bluetooth is enabled. • Change the name of a paired device : From Bluetooth settings, tap Settings next to a paired device name, tap Rename, enter a new name, and tap OK. -Emoticons cannot be used in a device name. -This setting is available when Bluetooth is enabled. • Canceling pairing: From Bluetooth settings, tap Settings next to a paired device name, and then tap Unpair . -This setting is available when Bluetooth is enabled. • Search for other devices : From Bluetooth settings, tap Scan . -This setting is available when Bluetooth is enabled. • Check files received using Bluetooth transfer: From Bluetooth settings, tap More options > Received files , and then follow the prompts.
Settings169 Phone Visibility Allow other devices to find your mobile device and transfer files. To enable or disable Phone visibility: 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Phone visibility , and then tap On/Off. Data Usage Monitor how your data is being used, and set limits and restrictions to conserve it. Your service provider may account for data usage differently. Turn Data Saver On or Off Data saver prevents some apps from sending or receiving data in the background, as well as reduce the frequency of data use. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver . 3. Tap On/Off to turn Data saver on or off.
Settings170 You can also permit certain apps to have unrestricted data usage. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver . 3. Tap Allow app while Data saver on . 4. Tap On/Off next to each app that you want to permit to have unrestricted data usage. Turn Mobile Data On or Off Enable or disable mobile data use on your phone. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data to turn mobile data on or off. Create an Alert for Mobile Data Usage Receive alerts when mobile data use reaches a warning amount you set. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data usage . 3. Tap Settings > Data warning . 4. On the graph, drag the warning bar up or down to set the data usage warning amount. Check Mobile Data Usage by Apps Monitor your apps’ mobile data usage. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data usage . 3. Type your limit, and tap Set.
Settings171 Additional Mobile Data Usage Options Configure more options for mobile data usage. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Data usage . The following options are available: • Bill cycle : Set the day of the month to start the bill cycle for your device. • Wi-Fi data usage: View data usage over Wi-Fi connections. • Restrict networks : Select networks to prevent apps that are running in the background from using them. Airplane Mode When you enable Airplane mode, your phone disconnects from all networks, meaning you cannot make calls, send or receive messages, or access the Internet. It also turns off other connectivity features, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. While in airplane mode, you can use other features of your phone, such as playing music, watching videos, or using other applications. To use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth after enabling Airplane mode, turn them on either in Settings or on the notification panel. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > Airplane mode , and then tap On/Off to enable or disable the option. Note : You can also enable or disable Airplane Mode through the notification panel quick settings (drag down the status bar and tap Airplane mode > Turn on).
Settings172 NFC and Payment NFC (Near Field Communication) allows data exchange when you touch your device with another compatible device. Enable NFC Activate NFC to allow your device to exchange data with other NFC devices. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > Connections > NFC and payment , and then tap On/Off to enable or disable the option. Android Beam When Android Beam is activated, you can beam app content to another NFC-capable device by holding the devices close together. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps . 2. Tap Settings > Connections > NFC and payment . 3. Tap On/Off to turn NFC on. 4. Tap Android Beam , and then tap On/Off to enable or disable the option.
Settings173 Tap and Pay Tap and pay allows you to select the default payment application you want to use for making purchases on your device. 1. From home, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap Settings > Connections > NFC and payment . 3. Tap On/Off to turn NFC on. 4. Tap Tap and pay . 5. Choose the app that you want as your default. • Tap Others to choose other types of payment apps. Hotspot and Tethering Hotspot Hotspot allows you to turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. When this feature is turned on, you can share your phone’s mobile data services using Wi-Fi with other Wi-Fi enabled devices. The feature works best when used in conjunction with 4G data services (although 3G service can also be used). Important : Use of the Hotspot feature requires an additional subscription.
