    Finding the Controls

    Handset
With the handset facing you, the antenna is a narrow, 2-and-a-half inches long protrusion at the top right.
Just below the top, on the front of the handset is a shallow seashell-shaped concave. This is the earpiece.
The smooth surface below the earpiece is the display. In the center below the display is the NAVIGATOR
control, which is a large cross control with four active areas. The active areas are the 12 o’clock, 3
    o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions. The 12 and 6 o’clock positions are UP and DOWN keys
respectively. These are also the VOLUME control increase and decrease keys. The 3 and 9 o’clock
positions are the RIGHT and LEFT arrow keys. The RIGHT arrow key is also FORWARD or EDIT key.
The LEFT arrow key is also BACK key.
The upper left of the NAVIGATOR control, a triangle button with a clipped edge is the TALK button. The
smaller oval button below the TALK button is the CHANNEL button. This is also the FUNCTION or
EXIT button. To the upper right of the NAVIGATOR control, an oval button is the INTERCOM button.
The INTERCOM button is also the CLEAR button. The smaller oval button below the INTERCOM
button is the FAX RECEIVE button. Below these buttons is the telephone keypad laid out in the
conventional telephone arrangement with a “nib” on the 5 button. On the lower left below the keypad is
the FLASH button. The FLASH button is also the CALL WAIT or PLAYBACK button. On the lower
right of the keypad is the REDIAL button. The REDIAL button is also the PAUSE button.
The indentation between the FLASH and REDIAL button is the microphone.
The 2 metal ridges at the bottom of both sides of the handset are the charge contacts.
The headset jack is on the left side edge of the handset, at the height between the display and TALK
button. It has a rubber cover that is opened from front to back, and is not completely removable.

    Base unit
With the base unit facing you, the antennas should be straight up on the both sides, towards the back of
the unit. The handset’s charging cradle is on the left of the base unit. This is a deep depression near the
front. For charging, the bottom of the handset gets put into the cradle with the handset buttons facing up.
The handset must be placed in the cradle in an upright position. The unit will beep when the handset is
properly placed in the cradle for charging.

The control panel of the base unit is divided into three equal parts: left, middle and right.
    Left part:
This part contains the telephone keypad laid out in the conventional telephone arrangement with a “nib”
on the 5 button. Below the keypad are three oval buttons in a horizontal row: the left one is the FLASH
button, the middle one is the REDIAL button, and the right one is the MUTE button. The FLASH button
is also the CALL WAIT button. The REDIAL button is also the PAUSE button.

    Middle part:
At the top middle part of the panel is a smooth surface. This is the display. Immediately below the display
are four buttons in a horizontal row: from left to right, RECORD, ERASE, PLAY MESSAGES and
AUTO ANSWER. In the center below this button is the NAVIGATOR control, which is a large circular
    control with four active areas. The active areas are the 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock
positions. The 12 and 6 o’clock positions are PLUS and MINUS keys respectively. There are also the
VOLUME control increase and decrease keys. The 3 and 9 o’clock positions are the RIGHT and LEFT
arrow keys. To the left of the NAVIGATOR control is a single rectangular button with a clipped edge.
This is the DIGITAL SPEAKER-PHONE button. To the right of the NAVIGATOR control are two
rectangular buttons with a clipped edge. The upper one is the MENU button. The lower one is the HELP
    button.
    Right part:
At the top are two oval buttons. The upper one is the CALLER ID button. The lower one is the
LOCATOR button. The LOCATOR button is also the INTERCOM button. Below these buttons is a
ditched rectangular button with a clipped edge, marked with an indented page icon. This is the COPY
button. Below this button, there is another ditched rectangular button with a clipped edge, with a “nib”,
marked with an indented diamond. This is the FAX START button, which is also the SET button. To the
right of these buttons is a ditched circular button, with a minus-shaped protrusion, marked with an
indented triangle. This is the STOP button. The upper right of the STOP button is an indentation. This is
    the microphone.
