Follow the steps below to record a series of two to ten exposures 
in a single photograph.
 Multiple exposures can make use of 
RAW data from the camera image sensor to produce colors 
noticeably superior to those in software-generated 
photographic overlays.
❚❚ Creating a Multiple Exposure
Multiple exposures can not be recorded in live view. Exit live 
view before proceeding.
 Note that at default settings, shooting 
will end and a multiple exposure wi ll be recorded automatically

Highlight Multiple exposure mode  
and press  2.
Highlight one of the following and 
press  J:
• To take a series of multiple exposures , 
select  0On (series) .
 Multiple 
exposure shooting will continue 
until you select  Off for  Multiple

• To take one multiple exposure , select On (single photo) .
 Normal 
shooting will resume automatically after you have created a 
single multiple exposure.
• To exit without creating additional multiple exposures , select Off.

Highlight Auto gain  and press  2.

 Highlight an option and

• On : Gain is adjusted according to 
number of exposures actually 
recorded (gain for each exposure is 
set to 
1/2 for 2 exposures, 1/3 for 
3 exposures, etc.).
• Off : Gain is not adjusted when  recording multiple exposure.
 
Note that photographs may be affected by noise (randomly-
spaced bright pixels, fog, or lines).

5Frame a photograph, focus, and shoot.
In continuous release modes (0102), the camera 
records all exposures in a single burst.
 If  On 
(series)  is selected, the camera will continue to 
record multiple exposures while the shutter-release button is 
pressed; if  On (single photo)  is selected, multiple exposure 
shooting will end after the first photograph.
 In self-timer 
mode, the camera will automatically record the number of 
exposures selected in Step 3 on page 211, regardless of the

❚❚Interrupting Multiple Exposures
To interrupt a multiple exposure before 
the specified number of exposures have 
been taken, select  Off for multiple 
exposure mode.
 If shooting ends before 
the specified number of exposures have 
been taken, a multiple exposure will be 
created from the exposures that have 
been recorded to that point.
 If  Auto gain  is on, gain will be 
adjusted to reflect the number of exposures actually recorded.
 
Note that shooting will end automatically if:

AInterval Timer Photography
If interval timer photography is acti vated before the first exposure is 
taken, the camera will record exposures at the selected interval until 
the number of exposures specified  in the multiple exposure menu 
have been taken (the number of shots listed in the interval timer 
shooting menu is ignored).
 These exposures will then be recorded as a 
single photograph and interval  timer shooting will end (if On (single
