    Attach another optional drawer, a duplex unit, or the MFP.
    You can attach a label to the trays to indicate the tray number.
    Installing a duplex unit
    The duplex unit attaches under the MFP, below the standard tray and above any drawers.

    Place the duplex unit on top of any installed drawers or the table or MFP cabinet where you plan to 
    use the MFP.
    The tab, round peg, and square holes on top of any drawer help you position the duplex unit 
    so the edges are aligned properly. Make sure it is securely in place.

    Installing memory or option cards
    You can customize the MFP memory capacity and connectivity by adding optional cards. The 
    instructions in this section help you install any of the following options:
    Memory cards
    –MFP memory
    –Flash memory
    Firmware cards
    –Bar Code
    –IPDS and SCS/TNe
    –PrintCryption™
    Other options
    –RS-232 serial interface card
    –Parallel 1284-B interface card
    –Ethernet 100BaseFX-SC
    –Ethernet 100BaseFX-MTRJ
    –802g Wireless AdapterIf installing memory or option cards sometime after setting up the MFP, turn the 
    MFP off and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet before continuing

    Accessing the MFP system board
    You must access the MFP system board to install MFP memory, flash memory, a firmware card, or 
    an option card.
    Note:Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the system board access cover.
    1Push the release latch, and lower the multipurpose feeder.
    2Push both release latches, and open the top front cover.

    Press both side door latches, and open the side door.
    4Loosen, but do not remove, the six screws on the shield.

    Slide the shield to the right, and then remove it.

    Set the shield aside.
    Use the illustration to locate the connector for the card you want to install.

    Installing or removing a memory card
    Installation
    Note:MFP or printer memory cards designed for other Lexmark MFPs or printers may 
    not work with this MFP.MFP or printer memory cards designed for other printers or 
    MFPs may not work with this MFP.
    1Remove the system board access cover. (See Accessing the MFP system board.)
    Warning:MFP memory cards are easily damaged by static electricity. Touch something 
    metal such as the MFP frame before you touch a memory card.
    2Push open the latches on both ends of the memory card connector.
    3Unpack the memory card. 
    Avoid touching the connection points along the edge of the card. Save the packaging.
    4Align the notches on the bottom of the card with the notches on the connector.
    5Push the memory card firmly into the connector until the latches on either end of the 
    connector snap into place.
    It may require some force to fully seat the card.
    6Make sure each latch fits over the notch on the end of the card.

    Removal
    1Remove the system board access cover. (See Accessing the MFP system board.)
    Warning:MFP memory cards are easily damaged by static electricity. Touch something 
    metal such as the MFP frame before you touch a memory card.
    2Push the latches away from the card on both ends of the memory card connector.
    The memory card moves out of the connector as the latches open.
    3Pull the memory card out of the connector.
    Avoid touching the connection points along the edge of the card.
    4Place the card into the original packaging.
    If you do not have the original packaging, wrap the card in paper, and store it in a box.
    5Close both latches.

    Installing or removing a flash memory or firmware card
    Installation
    Note:Flash memory or firmware cards designed for other Lexmark MFPs may not work 
    with this MFP.Flash memory or firmware cards designed for other MFPs may not 
    work with this MFP.
    1Remove the system board access cover. (See Accessing the MFP system board.)
    Note:If an option card has been installed, you may need to remove the option card before 
    installing the flash memory or firmware card.
    2Unpack the flash memory or firmware card.
    3Holding the flash memory or firmware card by the locking clips, align the plastic pins on the 
    card with the holes on the system board.
    4Push the flash memory or firmware card firmly into place, and release the locking clips. 
    The entire length of the connector on the flash memory or firmware card must touch the 
    system board and be locked into the connector.
    Be careful not to damage the connectors.
