61 Printing on CDs and DVDs Your printer includes a special tray that lets you print customized text, graphics, and photos directly on any ink-jet printable CD or DVD. The Epson Print CD software makes it easy to import your own photos, add text, and modify your designs with a variety of special effects. You can print on both regular 12-cm discs and 8-cm mini CDs. Caution: Use only ink jet-printable CDs or DVDs for printing. Do not use thermal-printable or regular CDs or DVDs. You can order CDs and DVDs with an ink-jet printable surface from your local retailer or a website such as www.pcmall.com, www.cdw.com, www.warehouse.com, www.zones.com, www.macconnection.com, and www.pcconnection.com. 62Printing on CDs and DVDs Cleaning the Roller Before you print on CDs or DVDs, you may need to clean the roller inside the printer. You can do this by feeding and ejecting several sheets of plain paper. 1. Make sure the output tray is in the lower position. If it isn’t, lift the tray as shown below, then place one hand on the top of the printer and ease the tray down into the lower position. 2. Pull out the output tray extensions. 3. Open the paper support and pull up the support extension. 4. Turn on the printer and load several sheets of letter-size paper. 5. Press the )paper button to feed the paper. 6. Press the )paper button again to eject the paper. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 several times to completely clean the roller. Output tray Paper support
Printing on CDs and DVDs63 Inserting a CD or DVD Make sure the data, music, or video is burned on your ink-jet printable CDs or DVDs before you print. Otherwise, dirt or scratches on the surface may cause errors when you burn the data. If you plan to print large numbers of CDs or DVDs, it’s a good idea to print a small sample, then wait a day and check the quality to make sure it is satisfactory. If you want to check the print position or color before printing on your actual CD or DVD, see “Adjusting the Print Position” on page 70 or “Adjusting the Print Density” on page 74. 1. Turn on the printer. Note: Before you insert a CD or DVD, make sure the printer is turned on. Otherwise, the disc may not be positioned correctly. 2. Remove any paper from the sheet feeder, then push in the paper support extension and close the paper support. 3. Push in the output tray extensions, but leave the tray open. 4. Lift the output tray as shown below, then place one hand on the top of the printer and pull up on the output tray until it stops. Lay the tray down in the upper position.
64Printing on CDs and DVDs 5. Place the CD or DVD on the CD tray with the white or printable side face-up. To print on a small CD (8 cm), place the small CD ring on the tray first, then place the CD inside the ring. Caution: Make sure you always use the small CD ring when printing 8-cm CDs and that the CD and ring lay flat on the tray; otherwise the printer may be damaged. 6. Slide the tray into the tray guides in the output tray. Push in the guide until the arrows on the tray and the tray guide are next to each other, as shown below. 7. Press the )paper button to load the CD or DVD into printing position. It is loaded when the Ppower button stops flashing. 8. Follow the instructions in the next section to design your CD or DVD. Printing on CDs and DVDs65 Designing CDs and DVDs You can use Epson Print CD to create and print a disc design with images and text. 1. Start Epson Print CD. Windows: Click Start > Programs or All Programs > EPSON Print CD > EPSON Print CD . Mac OS X: Open the Applications folder, then open the EPSON Print CD folder and select EPSON Print CD. Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x: Open the EPSON Print CD folder and double-click EPSON Print CD . 2. Click the or background icon. You see a window like the following: 3. To select a background image, do one of the following: ■Windows: Click the File tab, then click Browse to locate the folder where your images are stored and click OK. You see thumbnail images of all the files in the folder. Select your image and click OK. ■Macintosh: Click Select Background, locate the folder where your images are stored, select the one you want, and click Open. Note: In Windows, if you have already chosen a background, you see a different screen. Click Select Image to choose a new background. Windows Macintosh
66Printing on CDs and DVDs 4. To modify the template or enhance your background image, click the or background icon, if necessary. You can adjust the brightness, contrast, and gamma, or apply mosaic, blur, or special color effects, as follows: ■Windows: Click the Image Adjustment button, then click the Image Adjustment tab. When you finish making adjustments, click OK. ■Macintosh: Use any of the available editing features. Then click OK. 5. To add text, do one of the following: ■Windows: Click the text button. Enter your text, use the tabs to apply formatting and special effects, and click OK. (To open the window again, double-click any block of text.) ■Macintosh: Click the text button. In the Text Settings window, type your text, then use any of the options in the window to format it. You can also use options in the Color Settings and Object Settings windows. 6. To curve a single line of text, click the text in the main window, then drag the red “handle” up or down. Then adjust it using the other handles that appear. 7. When you’re finished, choose Save as from the File menu to save your file. Note: To check your design, you can print it on a sheet of plain paper before loading and printing on a CD or DVD. Load plain paper in the printer and select Plain Paper as you follow the instructions in “Printing Your Design” on page 67. Windows Macintosh
Printing on CDs and DVDs67 Printing Your Design After you have loaded a CD or DVD and created your design, you’re ready to print. Follow the steps for your operating system below. Caution: Don’t open Epson Status Monitor, pause printing, or respond to any on-screen, low ink messages when your printer is in the middle of a print job. This may cause your printer to pause and leave an uneven surface on your disc. If your ink is running low, wait until printing finishes before checking ink levels or attempting to replace a cartridge. If you must replace an ink cartridge in the middle of a print job, the quality of your printout may decline. For best results, check your ink levels and replace ink cartridges, if necessary, before printing on discs. Windows 1. Open the File menu and select Printer Settings. 2. Make sure these settings are selected: ■EPSON Stylus Photo R800 as the Name ■Letter as the Size ■Manual as the Source ■CD/DVD as the Media Type 3. Click OK. 4. Open the File menu and select Print. 5. Click OK. The printer prints your CD and ejects it on the tray. Note: After you print, handle the CD or DVD carefully. To allow the ink to dry fully, wait at least 24 hours before playing the disc or inserting it in a drive. Keep printed discs away from moisture and direct sunlight.

Open the File menu and select Page Setup . 2. Make sure Stylus Photo R800(Manual Feed) is selected as the Format for option and the Paper Size is set to US Letter. 3. Click OK. 4. Open the File menu and select Print. 5. Select these print settings: ■Stylus Photo R800(Manual Feed) as the Printer ■Print Settings from the pull-down menu ■CD/DVD as the Media Type 6. Click Print. The printer prints your CD and ejects it on the tray. Note: After you print, handle the CD or DVD carefully. To allow the ink to dry fully, wait at least 24 hours before playing the disc or inserting it in a drive. Keep printed discs away from moisture and direct sunlight. 70Printing on CDs and DVDs Adjusting the Print Position If your printed images and text are not positioned the way you want, you may need to adjust the print position. Use the blank cardboard check disk included with your printer or an extra CD. You can also use these steps to check the print position before you print on a CD or DVD. Windows 1. Place the cardboard check disk (or an extra CD) on the CD tray and insert it into the printer, as described on page 63. 2. Start Epson Print CD. 3. Select Print from the File menu. 4. Click the Printer Settings button. 5. Make sure your printer is selected and the Source is set to Manual, then click OK. 6. Click the Print Position Confirmation Pattern button. 7. Click OK. The confirmation pattern is printed on the check disc or CD and the printer ejects it. 8. Remove the check disk or CD and measure the distance from the edge of the hole to the small cross marks labeled Top and Right. You’ll need a metric ruler with millimeters for accurate measurements.
