HOWTOCHECKANDADJUST THECABLES Thecablesareadjustedatthefactory andnoadjustmentshouldbeneces- sary.Ifthecableshavebecome stretchedoraresaggingadjustmentwill benecessary. Tocheckforcorrectadjustment,discon- necttheZ-fittingatthedrivelever, movethedrivelevertothefullforward position,justcontactingtheplastic bumper.Thecontrolcablesarecor- rectlyadjustedwhenthecenterofthe Zfittingisbetweenthecenterand topoftheholeinthedriveleverand thereinnodroopinthecable.See Figure20. Toreplaceabrokenshearbolt,proceed asfollows.Extrashearboltswerepro- videdintheassemblypartsbag. 1.Movethethrottlecontroltothestop position.Disengageallcontrols. 2.Disconnectthesparkplugwire. Makesureallmovingpartshave stopped. 3.Aligntheholeintheaugerwiththe holeintheaugershaft.Installthe newshearpinandspacer.See Figure33. 4.Connectthesparkplugwire. Toadjust: 1.Cleansparkplugbycarefully scrapingtheelectrodes(Donot sandblastoruseawirebrush).
2.Besuresparkplugiscleanand freeofforeignmaterial.Checkelec- trodesgapwithawirefeelergauge andresetgapto0.030ifneces- sary.SeeFigure34. Gasolinemustberemovedortreatedto preventgumdepositsfromformingin thefueltank,filter,hose,andcarburetor duringstorage.Also,duringstorageal- coholblendedgasolinethatusesetha- nolormethanol(sometimescalled gasohol)attractswater.Itactsonthe gasolinetoformacidswhichdamage theengine. Ifyoudonotremovethegasoline, usefuelstabilizersuppliedwithunit orpurchaseCraftsmanFuelStabi- lizerNo.3550.Addfuelstabilizerto anygasolineleftinthetanktomini- mizegumdepositsandacids.Ifthe fueltankisalmostempty,mixstabi- lizerwithfreshgasolineinasepa- ratecontainerandaddsometothe fueltank. Alwaysfollowtheinstructiononthe stabilizercontainer.Afterthestabi- lizerisaddedtothefueltank,run theengineatleasttenminutesto allowthemixturetoreachthecar- buretor. Changetheengineoil. Lubricatethepiston/cylinderarea. First,removethesparkplugand squirtafewdropsofcleanengine oilintothesparkplughole.Next, coverthesparkplugholewitharag toabsorboilspray.Then,pulltwoor threetimesontherecoilstarterrope torotatetheengine.Finally,install thesparkplugandattachthespark plugwire. OTHER 1.Ifpossible,storeyoursnowthrower indoorsandcoverittogiveprotec- tionfromdustanddirt. 2.Ifthemachinemustbestoredout- doors,blockupthesnowthrowerto besuretheentiremachineisoffthe ground. 3.Coverthesnowthrowerwithasuit- ableprotectivecoverthatdoesnot retainmoisture.Donotuseplastic.
