Main Power and Control Panel Power1-21 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 Main Power and Control Panel Power The machine is provided with two power switches, a main power switch and a control panel power switch, as well as a breaker that detects excess current or leakage current. How to Turn ON the Main Power 1Make sure that the power plug is firmly inserted into the power outlet. WARNING Do not connect or disconnect the power cord with wet hands, as this may result in electrical shock. 2Press the main power switch to the I side. The main power switch is located on the right side of the machine. The main power indicator on the control panel lights when the main power switch is turned ON.
Main Power and Control Panel Power1-22 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 IMPORTANT If the main power indicator on the control panel does not light even though the main power switch is ON, be sure to check the breaker to see if it is OFF. (See When the Power Does Not Turn ON, in the Reference Guide.) 3The screens on the right are displayed while the system software is loading. ●If login authentication by a login service (SDL (Simple Device Login) or SSO (Single Sign-on)) is not set, and an application other than MEAP is selected as the initial function in Common Settings (from the Additional Functions screen): ❑The Start Up screen is displayed until the machine is ready to scan. If a message is displayed on the touch panel display, proceed to step 4. ❑The screen on the right is displayed when the machine is ready to scan. The machine is ready to scan in approximately 30 seconds after the screen on the right appears.
Main Power and Control Panel Power1-23 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 ●If login authentication by a login service (SDL or SSO) is not set, and MEAP is selected as the initial function in Common Settings (from the Additional Functions screen). ❑The Start Up screen is displayed until the machine is ready to scan. ❑After the Start Up screen disappears, the MEAP Start Up screen is displayed. You can press [➞] to switch to the Basic Features screen to use the Copy, Mail Box, etc. functions even if the MEAP Start Up screen is still displayed. ❑The MEAP Application screen is displayed.
Main Power and Control Panel Power1-24 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 ●If login authentication by a login service (SDL or SSO) is set: ❑The Start Up screen is displayed until the machine is ready to scan. ❑After the Start Up screen disappears, the MEAP Start Up screen is displayed regardless of the Set as Initial Function settings. IMPORTANT •If you turn OFF the main power, wait at least 10 seconds before turning the main power back ON. •Do not turn the main power OFF, if you want to send or receive I-fax or fax documents. Also, do not turn the main power OFF, if the optional Universal Send Kit is activated, or the Super G3 FAX Board is installed, and you want to be able to send or receive fax documents. Sending or receiving I-fax or fax documents cannot be done when the main power is turned OFF. •If SSO or SDL is set as the login service, the machine will take longer to become ready to scan. 4If you are using a login service, log in using the procedure for the login service you are using.
Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine1-25 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine This section describes the important setting registrations and procedures that must be done before the machine is used for sending operations. For the further details of the operations, see Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine in the Sending and Facsimile Guide. IMPORTANT •If you attempt to use the machine without registering the necessary information correctly, the machine may not function properly. •Network settings have to be specified in order to send scanned documents to an e-mail address, an I-fax address, or a file server. (See the Network Guide.) Selecting the Type of Telephone Line Set the type of telephone line that is connected to the machine. If this setting is incorrect, you will be unable to communicate with other machines. Be sure to check the type of telephone line that you are using, and make the correct setting. NOTE For this setting, the optional Super G3 FAX Board is required. 1Press ➞ [Communications Settings] ➞ [User Settings] under ➞ [Tel Line Type]. 2Select the type of telephone line ➞ press [OK]. If you do not know the telephone line type, call your telephone service provider for details.
Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine1-26 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 Setting the Current Date and Time You can set the current date and time. The current date and time settings are used as standard timer settings for functions that require them. NOTE You can also specify to automatically synchronize the date and time with a server on the network from the Additional Functions screen. (See Chapter 3, Using a TCP/IP Network, in the Network Guide.) 1Press ➞ [System Settings] ➞ [Date & Time Settings]. 2Enter the current date (day, month, year) and time using - (numeric keys). Enter the month and the day using four digits (including zeros). Enter all four digits of the year, and the time in 24-hour notation, as four digits (including zeros) without a space. ●If you are setting the Time Zone: ❑Press the Time Zone drop-down list ➞ select the time zone where the machine is located. •GMT: The time at the Greenwich Observatory in England is called GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). •Time Zone: The standard time zones of the world are expressed globally in terms of the difference in hours ( up to 12 hours) from GMT ( 0 hours). A time zone is a region throughout which this time difference is the same. •Daylight Saving Time: In some countries, time is advanced throughout the summer season. The period in which this is applied is called Daylight Saving Time. Examples: May 6➞0605 7:05 a.m.➞0705 11:18 p.m.➞2318
Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine1-27 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 ●If you are setting Daylight Saving Time: ❑Press [On] ➞ [Start Date]. ❑Select the month and day from the Month and Day drop-down lists, respectively. ❑Press [ ] or [+] to enter the time of day you want Daylight Saving Time to take effect ➞ press [OK]. ❑Press [End Date] ➞ make the settings in the same way as [Start Date] ➞ press [OK]. NOTE If you set Daylight Saving Time, the machine automatically sets the standard time of the machine one hour forward at the specified date and time. 3Press [OK]. Registering Your Machines Fax Number You must store the machines fax number. This number is printed on the document that you fax to the receiving party. The number may also be displayed on the touch panel display of the receiving partys machine, depending on their type of machine. NOTE For this setting, the optional Super G3 FAX Board is required. 1Press ➞ [Communications Settings] ➞ [User Settings] under ➞ [Unit Telephone #]. 2Enter the units telephone number using - (numeric keys) ➞ press [OK]. Details of each item are shown below. [Space]: Press to insert a space between the area code and the local fax number. [+]: Use to insert a country code. Press [+] after the country code, and before the fax number. [ ] [ ]: Press to move the position of the cursor. [Backspace]:Press to delete the last number entered.
Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine1-28 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 Registering Sender Names For fax, you can register any name as the senders name, such as the section or departments name, or an individuals name. The registered senders name can be displayed on the touch panel display of the recipients machine and/or printed at the top of the documents that you send as the senders information. NOTE •You can set to display and print the senders name instead of the name stored as the units name with the Senders Names setting from the Send Settings screen. •This mode is available only if the optional Super G3 FAX Board is installed. 1Press ➞ [Communications Settings] ➞ [TX Settings] under ➞ [Senders Names (TTI)]. 2Select the number under which you want to register the senders name ➞ press [Register/Edit]. You can store up to 99 sender names (01 to 99). To delete a stored senders name, select the number under which the name is registered ➞ press [Erase]. Only one sender name can be erased at a time. 3Enter the senders name ➞ press [OK].
