    Clean	the	exterior	of	the	machine	and	ventilation	slots.
    1 Turn O\f\f the power swit\bh and dis\bonne\bt the

    2 Clean the exterior of the ma\bhine\L with a soft, well 
    wrung out \bloth damp\Lened with wa ter or mild 
    detergent diluted with water.

    The cleaning begins. It takes approximately 80 seconds to 
    complete the process.
    	 		
    Place the cleaning

    face up in the mulch-
    purpose tray, and

    Follow	this	procedure	to	clean	the	platen	glass	and	under	
    surface	of	the	feeder
    .
    1 Turn O\f\f the power swit\bh and dis\bonne\bt the 
    power \bord.
    2 Open the feeder.
    	 		
    3 Clean the platen glass and the und\Ler surfa\be of 
    the feeder
    .
    (1) Clean the areas with a cloth da\Impened with water .
    (2)
     Wipe the areas with a sof
     t, dry cloth.
    			
    4 Close the feeder.
    5 Conne\bt the power \bord and turn ON the power 
    swit\bh.

    Jobs can be stored in memory for approximately an hour after the 
    power plug has been un\Iplugged. To view jobs stored in memory, 
    see the following.

     CAUTION

    Do not dampen the c\Iloth too much, as this m\Iay tear the 
    document or damage\I the machine.

    • Keep the toner cartridge away from computer screens, disk

    es, and floppy disks. They may be damaged by magnet 
    which is in inside\I of the toner cartridge. 
    •
     Avoid locations subje\Ic
    
    t to high temperature, high humidity, or 
    rapid changes in t\Iemperature.
    •
     Do not expose the t\Ioner car
    
    tridge to direct sunlight or bright 
    light for more than five minutes.
    •
     Store the t
    
    oner cartridge in its protective bag. Do not open 
    the bag until you are ready to install the toner cartridge in the 
    machine.
    •
     Keep the prot
    
    ective bag for the toner cartridge. They are 
    required when transporting the machine.
    •
     Do not stor
    
    e the toner cartridge in a salty atmosphere or where 
    there are corrosive gases such as fr\Iom aerosol sprays.
    •
     Do not remo
    
    ve the toner cartridge from the machine 
    unnecessarily.
    •
     Print qualit
    
    y may deteriorate if the drum surface is exposed to 
    light or is damaged\I.
    •
     Always hold the toner car
    
    tridge by its handle to avoid touching 
    the drum.

    tridge in an upright or an upside \I
    down position. If the toner is kept upright or upside down, the 
    toner will solidify a\Ind may not return to its original condition 
    even if it is shaken.

    idge, place the toner 
    container into its protective bag to prevent the toner from 
    scattering, and then dispose\I of the toner cartridge according to 
    local regulations.

    Please be aware that there are counterfeit Canon toner cartridges 
    in the marketplace.
    Use of counterfeit toner cartridge may result in poor print quality or 
    machine performance.

     CAUTION
    If \boner leak\f from \bhe \boner car\bridge
    Be careful not to inhale the toner or allow it to come into 
    direct contact with your skin. If the toner comes into contact 
    with your skin, wash with soap\I. If the skin becomes irritated 
    or you inhale the toner, consult a physician immediately.
    When removing a \boner car\bridge
    Make sure to remove it carefully. If not removed with care, 
    the toner powder may scatter and come in con\Itact with 
    your eyes and mouth. If toner gets into your eyes or mouth, 
    wash them immediat\Iely with cold water and consult a 
    physician. 
    Keep \bhe \boner car\bridge away from \fmall children.
    If the toner or other parts are ingested, consult a physician 
    immediately. 
    Do no\b di\fa\f\femble \bhe\u \boner car\bridge. 
    The toner may scatter and get into your eyes or mouth. If 
    toner gets into your eyes or mouth, wash \Ithem immediately 
    with cold water and consult a ph\Iysician.
     WARNING
    Do no\b place \bhe \boner car\bridge in fire.
    This may cause toner remaining inside th\Ie cartridge to ignite 
    and result in burns.

    Be	aware	of	the	following	points	when	storing	a	new	toner	
    cartridge	or	handling	the	toner	cartr

    somewhere.

    To use toner cartridges in a safe and trouble-free manner, store 
    them in a place tha\It fulfills the following conditions.

     Do not stor
    
    e toner cartridges in a location\I exposed to direct 
    sunlight.
    •
     Do not stor
    
    e toner cartridges in a location\I subject to high 
    temperature or humidity or in a location \Iwith dramatic chan\Iges 
    in temperature or humidity.
    - Storage temperature range: 32 to 95°F (0 to 35°C)
    - Storage humidity range: 35 to 85% RH (no conden\Isation)
    •
     Do not stor
    
    e toner cartridges in a place wh\Iere corrosive gases, 
    such as ammonia, a\Ire generated, or where a considerable 
    amount of salt is c\Iontained in the ai\Ir, or where there is a lot of 
    dust.

    •
     Keep t
    
    oner cartridges away from products that may be damaged 
    by magnetism, such as a \Ifloppy disk or disk drive.

    Do not store toner cartridges vertically or upside-down.
    When removing \bhe \boner car\bridge which i\f being u\fed 
    from \bhe machine 
    Immediately place the removed toner cartridge into the original 
    protective bag or wrap it w\Iith a thick cloth.
    Abou\b a new \boner car\bridge
    Do not take a new toner cartridge out of the pr\Iotective bag until it 
    is ready to be used.
     NOTE 
    Abou\b conden\fa\bion
    Even within the storable humidity range, water droplets may 
    develop both inside an\Id outside toner cartridges. The formation of 
    water droplets is called con\Idensation.
    Condensation will ad\Iversely affect the quality of toner cartridges.

    You	can	specify	whether	to	conserve	the	amount	of	toner	used	
    for	cop

    	and	faxing.

    1 Open the front \bover while holding down the 
    open button.
    	 		 	
    		
    2 Remove the toner \bartridge.
    	 		
    3 Gently shake the toner \bartridge five or six times 
    to e
    venly distribute the toner inside the \bartridge.
    	 		
    4 Insert the toner \bartridge.
    Fit (A) on both sides o\If the toner cartridge into the guides located 
    on both sides of t\Ihe machine and slid\Ie the toner cartridge into the 
    machine until the t\Ioner cartridge comes to rest and is held aga\Iinst 
    the back of the ma\Ichine.

    5 Close the front \bover.
    If you canno\b clo\fe \bhe fron\b cover
    Make sure that the toner cartridge is installed c\Iorrectly. Do not 
    try to forcefully close the toner cover, as this may damage the 
    machine.
    If there are white lines in the print result or it is blur\Ired or 
    distorted even though the above operations have been 
    performed, replace the toner cartridge with a new one.
