If there is a problem, first refer to this Troubleshooting Guide. If this
Troubleshooting Guide does not resolve the problem, contact your
dealer or nearest Canon Service Center.
Do not recharge any battery pack other than genuine Canon Battery
    Pack BP-511A, BP-514, BP-511, or BP-512.
The battery is not properly installed in the camera (p.26).
      Recharge the battery (p.24).
Make sure the battery compartment cover is closed
    (p.26).
Make sure the card slot cover is closed
    (p.29).
If the power is cut off while an image is being recorded to the card, the
access lamp will light/blink for a few sec. After the image is recorded to
the card, the camera turns off automatically.
      Use a fully-charged battery
    (p.24).
The rechargeable battery will degrade after repeated use. Purchase a
    new one.
Auto power off is in effect. If you do not want auto power off to take
effect, set the [ 5 Auto power off] menu to [Off ].
    Troubleshooting Guide
    Power
The battery cannot be recharged with the battery charger
    provided.
The camera does not operate even when the power switch is
    set to .
The access lamp still blinks even when the power switch is
    set to < 2>.
    The battery becomes exhausted quickly.
The camera turns off by itself.

    Troubleshooting Guide
The card is not properly inserted (p.29).
If the card is full, replace the card or delete unnecessary images to
    make room
    (p.29, 144).
If you try to focus in the One-Shot AF mode while the focus
confirmation light < o> in the viewfinder blinks, a picture cannot be
taken. Press the shutter button halfway again to focus, or focus
    manually (p.35, 88).
If dust is adhering to the LCD monitor, wipe with a lens cloth or soft
    cloth.
In low or high temperatures, the LCD monitor display may seem slow
or it might look black. It will return to normal at room temperature.
Set the lens focus mode switch to < AF> (p.31).
To prevent camera shake, hold the camera still and press the shutter
    button gently (p.34, 35).
If the lens has an Image Stabilizer, set the IS switch to < 1>.
If a card error message is displayed, see page 30 or 201.
The built-in flash’s pop-up mechanism moves slightly. This is normal.
    Shooting
No images can be shot or recorded.
The LCD monitor does not display a clear image.
The image is out of focus.
    The card cannot be used.
The camera makes a noise when it is shaken.

    Troubleshooting Guide
When using Live View shooting, use a memory card (a hard disk-type
card such as MicroDrive is not recommended). A hard disk-type card
requires a lower temperature range for operation than normal memory
cards. If the temperature gets too high, the Live View shooting may
stop temporarily to prevent damage to the card’s hard disk. When the
camera’s internal temperature decreases, you can resume the Live
    View shooting (p.120).
If you shoot continuously with the built-in flash at short intervals, the
flash might stop operating to protect the flash unit.
If the image has been erase-protected, it cannot be erased (p.143).
The correct date and time has not been set (p.42).
Make sure the video cable plug is connected all the way in (p.141).
Set the video OUT format (NTSC/PAL) to the same video format as
    the TV (p.194).
Use the video cable that came with the camera (p.141).
Live View shooting is not possible.
The built-in flash does not fire.
    Image Review & Operation
The image canno t be erased.
The shooting date and time displayed is incorrect.
No image appears on the TV screen.
