151 Dust which could not be removed by the automatic sensor cleaning can be removed manually with a blower, etc. The surface of the image sensor is extremely delicate. If the sensor needs to be cleaned directly, having it done by a Canon Service Center is recommended. Before cleaning the sensor, detach the lens from the camera. 1Select [Sensor cleaning]. Under the [6 ] tab, select [Sensor cleaning ], then press < 0>. 2Select [Clean manually]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Clean manually ], then press < 0>. 3Select [OK]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ OK], then press < 0>. X In a moment, the mirror will lockup and the shutter will open. “CLEA n ” will blink on the LCD panel. 4End the cleaning. Set the power switch to < 2>. 3 Manual Sensor Cleaning N For the power source, using the AC Adapter Kit ACK-E2 (sold separately) is recommended. If you use the battery, make sure it is fully recharged. If a battery grip with size-AA/LR6 batteries is attached, manual sensor cleaning will not be possible. COPY
152 3 Manual Sensor Cleaning N While cleaning the sensor, never do any of the following. Doing any of the following will cut off the power and close the shutter. The shutter curtains and image sensor might get damaged. • Setting the power switch to < 2>. • Opening the battery compartment cover. • Opening the card slot cover. The surface of the image sensor is extremely delicate. Clean the sensor with care. Use a plain blower without any brush attached. A brush can scratch the sensor. Do not insert the blower tip inside the camera beyond the lens mount. If the power is turned off, the shutter will close and the shutter curtains or reflex mirror might get damaged. Never use canned air or gas to clea n the sensor. The blowing force can damage the sensor or the spray gas can freeze on the sensor. If smear that cannot be removed with a blower remains, having the sensor cleaned by a Canon Service Center is recommended. COPY
153 9 Printing Images and Transferring Images to a Computer Printing (p.154) You can connect the camera directly to a printer and print out the images in the card. The camera is compatible with “ w PictBridge” which is the standard for direct printing. Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) (p.163) DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) enables you to print images recorded in the card according to your printing instructions such as the image selection, quantity to print, etc. You can print multiple images in one batch or give the print order to a photofinisher. Transferring Images to a Personal Computer (p.167) By connecting the camera to a personal computer, you can transfer images from the camera’s card by operating the camera. COPY
154 You do the direct printing procedure entirely with your camera while you look at the LCD monitor. 1Set the camera’s power switch to . 2Set up the printer. For details, see the printer’s instruction manual. 3Connect the camera to the printer. Use the interface cable that came with the camera. When connecting the cable plug to the camera’s < D> terminal, the cable plug’s < D> icon must face the front side of the camera. To connect to the printer, refer to the printer’s instruction manual. 4Turn on the printer. 5Set the camera’s power switch to . XSome printers may make a beeping sound. 155 Preparing to Print 6Playback the image. Press the button. X The image will appear, and the < w> icon will appear on the upper left to indicate that the camera is connected to a printer. X The < l> button lamp will light in blue.wPictBridge The camera cannot be used with printers compatible only with CP Direct or Bubble Jet Direct. When connecting the camera to the printer, do not use any cable other than the interface cable provided. If there is a long beeping sound in step 5, it indicates a problem with the printer. To find out what’s wrong, do the following: 1. Press the < x> button to playback the image. 2. Press < 0>. 3. On the print setting screen, select [ Print]. The error message will be displayed on the LCD monitor (p.162). You can also print RAW images taken by this camera. If you use the battery to power the camera, make sure it is fully charged. With a fully-charged battery, printing up to about 3 hours is possible. Before disconnecting the cable, turn off the camera and printer first. Hold the plug (not the cord) to pull out the cable. For direct printing, using AC Adapter Kit ACK-E2 (sold separately) to power the camera is recommended. COPY

Turn the < 5> dial to select the image to be printed. 2Press . X The print setting screen will appear. 3Select [Paper settings]. Select [ Paper settings ], then press < 0 >. X The paper settings screen will appear. w Printing Printer-connected icon Print setting screen * Depending on the printer, settings such as the date and file number imprinting and trimming might not be available. Sets the printing effects (p.158). Sets the date or file number imprinting to on or off. Sets the quantity to be printed. Sets the trimming (p.161). Sets the paper size, type, and layout. 157 wPrinting Select the size of the paper loaded in the printer, then press < 0>. X The paper type screen will appear. Select the type of the paper loaded in the printer, then press < 0>. When using a Canon printer and Canon paper, read the printer’s instruction manual to check what paper types can be used. X The page layout screen will appear. Select the page layout, then press . X The print setting screen will reappear. * From the Exif data, the camera name, lens name, shooting mode, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation amount, ISO speed, white balance, etc., will be imprinted. If your printer cannot print borderless prints, the print will have borders. Bordered cThe shooting information* will be imprinted on the border on 9x13cm and larger prints. xx-upOption to print 2, 4, 8, 9, 16, or 20 images on one sheet. 20-upc 35-up pOn A4 or Letter size paper, 20 or 35 thumbnails of the images ordered through DPOF (p.163) will be printed. • [20-up c] will have the shooting information* imprinted. 158 wPrinting 4Set the printing effects. Set as necessary. If you need not set any printing effects, go to step 5. The screen display may differ depending on the printer. Select the option on the upper right, then press < 0>. Select the desired printing effect, then press < 0>. If the < e> icon is displayed next to < z >, you can also adjust the printing effect (p.160). * When you change the printing effects, it is reflected in the image displayed on the upper left. Note that the printed image might look slightly different from the displayed image which is only an approximation. This also applies to [Brightness] and [Adjust levels] on page 160. Item Description EOnThe image will be printed according to the printer’s standard colors. The image’s Exif data is used to make automatic corrections. EOffNo automatic correction will be performed. EVividThe image will be printed with higher saturation to produce more vivid blues and greens. ENRThe image noise is reduced before printing. 0 B/WPrints in black-and-white with true blacks. 0 Cool tonePrints in black-and-white with cool, bluish blacks. 0 Warm tonePrints in black-and-white with warm, yellowish blacks. zNaturalPrints the image in the actual colors and contrast. No automatic color adjustments will be applied. zNatural MThe printing characteristics ar e the same as the “Natural” setting. However, this setting enables finer printing adjustments than with “Natural.” E DefaultThe printing will differ depending on the printer. For details, see the printer’s instruction manual. COPY
159 wPrinting 5Set the date and file number imprinting. Set as necessary. Select < I>, then press < 0>. Set as desired, then press < 0>. 6Set the number of copies. Set as necessary. Select < R>, then press . Set the number of copies, then press . 7Start printing. Select [ Print], then press < 0>. X The < l> button’s blue lamp will blink and the printing will start. With Easy printing, you can print another image with the same settings. Just select the image and press the button lit in blue. With Easy printing, the number of copies will always be 1. Also, any trimming will not be applied. For details on trimming, see page 161. The [ Default ] setting for printing effects and other options are the printer’s own default settings as set by the printer’s manufacturer. See the printer’s instruction manual to find out what the [Default ] settings are. Depending on the image’s file size and image-recording quality, it may take some time for the printi ng to start after you select [Print]. If image tilt correction (p.161) has been applied, it will take longer to print the image. To stop the printing, press < 0> while [ Stop] is displayed, then select [ OK ]. COPY
160 wPrinting In step 4 on page 158, select the printing effect. When the < e> icon is displayed next to < z>, press the < B> button. You can then adjust the printing effect. What can be adjusted or what is displayed will depend on the selection made in step 4. Brightness The image brightness can be adjusted. Adjust levels When you select [ Manual], you can change the histogram’s distribution and adjust the image’s brightness and contrast. With the Adjust levels screen displayed, press the < B> button to change the position of the < h>. Turn the < 5> dial to freely adjust the shadow level (0 - 127) or highlight level (128 - 255). kBrightener Effective in backlit conditions which can make the subject’s face look dark. When [ On] is set, the face will be brightened for printing. Red-eye corr. Effective in flash images where t he subject has red eye. When [On] is set, the red eye will be corrected for printing. e Adjustment of Printing Effects The [kBrightener ] and [Red-eye corr. ] effects will not show up on the screen. When you select [ Detail set.], you can adjust the [ Contrast], [ Saturation ], [Color tone ], and [Color balance ]. To adjust the [Color balance ], use < 9>. B is for blue, A is amber, M is magenta, and G is green. The color in the respective direction will be corrected. If you select [ Clear all], all the printing effect settings will be reverted to the default. COPY
