141 You can also view the images on a TV set. Turn off the camera and the television before connecting them. * Depending on the TV monitor, part of the image might be cut off. 1Connect the provided video cable to the camera. Connect the video cable to the camera’s < VIDEO OUT > terminal. Insert the cable plug all the way in. 2Connect the video cable to the TV set. Connect the video cable to the TV’s video IN terminal. 3Turn on the TV and switch the TV’s video input to select the connected terminal. 4Set the camera’s power switch to . 5Press the button. XThe image will appear on the TV screen. (Nothing will be displayed on the camera’s LCD monitor.) Viewing the Images on TV Viewing on Non-HD (Hi-Definition) TV Sets AUDIO R LVIDEO (Yellow) If the video system format does not match the TV’s, the images will not be displayed properly. Set the proper video system format with [ 6 Video system ]. Do not use any video cable other than the one provided. Images might not be displayed if you use a different video cable. COPY
142 Viewing the Images on TV The HDMI Cable HTC-100 (sold separately) is required. 1Connect the HDMI cable to the camera. Connect the HDMI cable to the camera’s < D > terminal. With the plug’s logo facing the front of the camera, insert it into the camera’s < D> terminal. 2Connect the HDMI cable to the TV set. Connect the HDMI cable to the TV’s HDMI IN port. 3Turn on the TV and switch the TV’s video input to select the connected port. 4Set the camera’s power switch to . 5Press the button. XThe image will appear on the TV screen. (Nothing will be displayed on the camera’s LCD monitor.) The images will be displayed automatically at the TV’s optimum resolution. Viewing on HD (Hi-Definition) TV Sets Do not connect any other device to the camera’s < D> terminal. Doing so may cause malfunction. Some TVs might not be able to display the captured images. In such a case, use the provided video cable to connect to the TV. The camera’s < VIDEO OUT> terminal and terminal cannot be used at the same time. COPY
143 Protecting the image prevents it from being erased accidentally. 1Select [Protect images]. Under the [3] tab, select [ Protect images], then press < 0>. X The protect setting screen will appear. 2Select the image and protect it. Turn the < 5> dial to select the image to be protected, then press < 0 >. X When an image is protected, the icon will appear on the screen. To cancel the image protection, press again. The < K> icon will disappear. To protect another image, repeat step 2. To exit the image protection, press the < M > button. The menu will reappear. K Protecting Images Image protect icon If you format the card (p.43), the protected images will also be erased. Once an image is protected, it cannot be erased by the camera’s erase function. To erase a protected image, you must first cancel the protection. If you erase all the images (p.144), only the protected images will remain. This is convenient when you want to erase unnecessary images all at once. COPY
144 You can either select and erase images one by one or erase them in one batch. Protected images (p.143) will not be erased. Once an image is erased, it cannot be recovered. Make sure you no longer need the image before erasing it. To prevent important images from being erased accidentally, protect it. 1Playback the image to be erased. 2Press the button. The erase menu will appear at the bottom of the screen. 3Erase the image. XSelect [ Erase], then press < 0>. The image displayed will be erased. By checkmarking the images to be erased, you can erase multiple images at one time. On the [ 3 Erase images] menu, select [Select and erase images ]. By pressing the < I> button, you can switch to a three-image display on the screen. With < 0>, checkmark < X> the images to be erased. Then press the < L> button. You can erase all the images in a folder or card at one time. When the [3 Erase images ] menu is set to [ All images in folder ] or [All images on card ], all the images in the folder or card will be erased. 145 You can adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor to make it easier to read. 1Select [LCD brightness]. Under the [6 ] tab, select [LCD brightness ], then press < 0>. 2Adjust the brightness. While referring to the gray chart, turn the < 5> dial, then press . You can also display the [ LCD brightness ] screen with the < B> button. You can set how long the image is displayed on the LCD monitor immediately after capture. To keep the image displayed, set [ Hold]. To not have the image displayed, set [ Off]. 1Select [Review time]. Under the [1 ] tab, select [Review time ], then press < 0>. 2Set the desired time. Turn the < 5> dial to select the setting, then press < 0>. Changing Image Pl ayback Settings 3 Adjusting the LCD Monitor Brightness 3 Setting the Image Review Time To check the image’s exposure, you should look at the histogram (p.134). If [Hold ] is set, the image will be displayed until the auto power off time elapses. COPY
146 Changing Image Playback Settings Vertical images are rotated automatically so they are displayed vertically on the camera’s LCD monitor and personal computer instead of horizontally. The setting of this feature can be changed. 1Select [Auto rotate]. Under the [5 ] tab, select [Auto rotate ], then press < 0>. 2Set the auto rotate. Turn the < 5> dial to select the setting, then press < 0>. OnzD The vertical image is automatically rotated on both the camera’s LCD monitor and on the personal computer. OnD The vertical image is automatical ly rotated only on the personal computer. Off The vertical image is not rotated. 3 Auto Rotate of Vertical Images Auto rotate will not work with vertical images captured while Auto rotate was [ Off ]. They will not rotate even if you later switch it to [On] for playback. Immediately after image capture, the vertical image will not be automatically rotated for the image review. If the vertical image is taken while the camera is pointed up or down, the image might not rotate automatically for playback. If the vertical image is not automatically rotated on the personal computer screen, it means the software you are using is unable to rotate the image. Using the provided software is recommended. COPY
147 8 Sensor Cleaning The camera has a Self Cleaning Sensor Unit attached to the image sensor’s front layer (low-pass filter) to shake off dust automatically. The Dust Delete Data can also be appended to the image so that the dust spots remaining can be erased automatically by Digital Photo Professional (provided software). About smear adhering to the front of the sensorBesides dust entering the camera from outside, in rare cases lubricant from the camera’s internal parts may adhere to the front of the sensor. In case visible spots still remain after the automatic sensor cleaning, having the sensor cleaned by a Canon Service Center is recommended. Even while the Self Cleaning Sens or Unit is operating, you can press the shutter button halfway to interrupt the cleaning and start shooting immediately. COPY
148 Whenever you set the power switch to or , the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit operates to aut omatically shake off the dust on the front of the sensor. Normally, you need not be aware of this operation. However, you can execute t he sensor cleaning at anytime as well as disable it. 1Select [Sensor cleaning]. Under the [6 ] tab, select [Sensor cleaning ], then press < 0>. 2Select [Clean now f]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Clean now f], then press < 0>. Select [ OK], then press < 0>. X The screen will indicate that the sensor is being cleaned. Although there will be a shutter sound, a picture is not taken. In step 2, select [ Auto cleaningf] and set it to [ Disable]. X The sensor cleaning will no longer be executed when you set the power switch to < 1/J> or . 3 Automatic Sensor Cleaning Cleaning the Sensor Now Disabling Automatic Sensor Cleaning For best results, do the sensor cleaning while the camera bottom is placed on a table or other surface at a perpendicular angle. Even if you repeat the sensor cleaning, the result will not improve that much. Right after the sensor cleaning is finished, the [ Cleaning now f] option will remain disabled temporarily. COPY
149 Normally, the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit will eliminate most of the dust that might be visible on captured images. However, in case visible dust still remains, you can append the Dust Delete Data to the image to later erase the dust spots. The Dust Delete Data is used by Digital Photo Professional (provided software) to erase the dust spots automatically. Get a solid-white object (paper, etc.). Set the lens focal length to 50mm or longer. Set the lens focus mode switch to < MF> and set the focus to infinity ( ∞). If the lens has no distance scale, look at the front of the lens and turn the focusing ring clockwise all the way. 1Select [Dust Delete Data]. Under the [2 ] tab, select [Dust Delete Data ], then press < 0>. 2Select [OK]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ OK], then press < 0>. After the automatic sensor cleaning ends , a message will appear. Although there will be a shutter sound, a picture is not taken. 3 Appending Dust Delete Data N Preparation Obtain the Dust Delete Data COPY
150 3 Appending Dust Delete Data N 3Photograph a solid-white object. At a distance of 20 cm - 30 cm / 0.7 ft. - 1.0 ft., fill the viewfinder with a patternless, solid-white object and take a picture. XThe picture will be taken in the aperture-priority AE mode with an aperture of f/22. Since the image will not be saved, the data can still be obtained even if there is no card in the camera. X When the picture is taken, the camera will start obtaining the Dust Delete Data. When the Dust Delete Data is obtained, a message will appear. Select [ OK], and the menu will reappear. If the data was not obtained successfully, a message to that effect will appear. Follow the “Preparation” procedure on the preceding page, then select [ OK]. Take the picture again. After the Dust Delete Data is obtained, it is appended to all the JPEG and RAW images captured thereafter. Before an important shoot, you should update the Dust Delete Data by obtaining it again. To erase dust spots automatically with the bundled software, see the Software Instruction Manual in the CD-ROM. The Dust Delete Data appended to the image is so small that it hardly affects the image file size. About the Dust Delete Data Be sure to use a solid-white object such as a new sheet of white paper. If the paper has any pattern or design, it may be recognized as dust data and affect the accuracy of the dust deletion with the software. COPY
