iMac (17-inch Mid 2006/Late 2006 CD) Take Apart — Optical Drive 1 Lift the rear of the drive and pull the front bezel of the drive straight back and out of the disc opening in the rear housing. Insert the optical drive “bezel-end-first” into the opening in the housing. Be sure to align the two guide holes in the front bezel with guide posts at each end of the bezel opening. Pull in on the edge of the mounting bracket until you feel it release from the chassis. Pull HARD! The hard drive bracket will release on the end near your hands. If necessary, install the mounting bracket to the top of the hard drive with two screws. Connect the hard drive power and data cables.
